FM GUARD UPDATER TOOL GUIDE

CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION

Thank you for purchasing the PICOBOX Facility Management Controller (FM Guard).

FM Guard is an industrial DIN rail device used as remote surveillance, or as a low-priced autonomous system, which monitors and controls different process on distant localities. This device is powerful, easy to configure, and to install.

FM Guard uses two methods to update the firmware: First is through online update wherein  the FM Guard must be connected to internet; Second is through direct update or through the FM Guard Updater Tool wherein the FM Guard must be connected directly to a laptop or a PC  via debugging cable. 

This manual will serve as a guide on how to update FM Guard’s firmware using the Updater  Tool.

CHAPTER II: FM GUARD UPDATER TOOL

FM Guard updater is a tool used to directly update the FM Guard’s firmware. This tool can be  downloaded on our website, https://linkwisetech.com. The updated tool is an executable file  and it doesn’t require any installation.

A USB A to mini–USB B cable is needed to connect the FM Guard directly to laptop or PC  (please note that this is included together with the FM Guard device upon purchase).

CHAPTER III: FIRMWARE UPDATE

Downloading the tool and firmware 

In order to update the FM Guard to its latest version, the Updater tool and firmware must be  downloaded first. You may access it on our website, just go through the ‘Products’ link then  click the FMGUARD section or you may use this link:  https://linkwisetech.com/products/facility-monitoring-system/picobox/fm-guard/.  

Connecting the FM Guard device to your computer 

From your laptop/PC, plug the USB A to mini–USB B cable to the FM Guard device and  laptop/PC to build a connection.

Running the Updater Tool 

After downloading the tool and firmware and connecting the FM Guard to you laptop/PC, extract the downloaded Updater tool and run the executable file.

On the lower left of the Updater tool window, you will the following details:  

a. Connection Status – If Laptop/PC is connected or not to the FM Guard;

b. Serial number of the FM Guard;

c. Current kernel version; and  

d. FM Guard version.

Setup page 

Setup page is the settings for communication port setup. It automatically recognizes what USB port used.

File page 

File page is the application’s page that selects a firmware file (.rpc) to be uploaded to the connected FM Guard.

Once the firmware file is selected, it will appear in the main screen of the updater tool.

Transferring of firmware 

After selecting the firmware file, click the ‘Transfer’ button. The file will start to upload to the  connected FM Guard. Wait until the firmware uploading status is finished.

When uploading of firmware is done, the FM Guard will automatically restart in order for the uploaded firmware to take effect.
