Remarks on App Usage
- Screenshots are for reference; actual interface may vary between iOS and Android versions.
- The TrailCam Go app requires permissions for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, storage, location, and camera access for full functionality.
- For iOS 14+, local network permissions must also be enabled for seamless operation.
Enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Enabling Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your mobile phone before launching the app is mandatory for optimal connection speed. Icons representing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled are shown.
Adding a Camera
To establish a stable connection, stay close to the camera and minimize interference from other electrical products.
4. Choose Device Type: Tap "Wi-Fi Camera".
5. Searching for Cameras and Links: The app searches for Wi-Fi tracking cameras. Ensure your camera is within Wi-Fi range. If no device appears, return to the previous menu or refresh the list. Click the desired device to connect. Establishing Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections may take up to 30 seconds. You will receive a prompt to click "Join" to allow the Wi-Fi connection. The camera name typically starts with "TrailCam" followed by an identifier.
Note: Android devices may show different system pop-up messages for app permissions.
6. App Navigation:
- 6.1 Camera: Access live view, manually capture photos/videos, or save them locally.
- 6.2 Gallery: View photos and videos from the camera and download them to your phone.
- 6.3 Status: View camera information like battery life, SD card capacity, internal temperature, and mode.
- 6.4 Settings: Modify basic camera settings, which will sync automatically.
7. Disconnect and Reconnect
While connected to the app, your phone may not be able to perform other internet tasks. Disconnect the camera via the app to regain internet access. To reconnect, go to the "Camera" section in the app and tap "connect camera."
8. APP Password
Configure a 4-digit passcode for both the camera and the app. Navigate to Camera > Settings > Security within the app to set this up (a new phone connection is required).
Account Registration & Power
9. Account Registration
Registering an account after binding the device to the app is recommended to enhance the security of captured content.
Power Cord Functions
- 1. USB Cable: Connects the camera to a computer to view SD card files; does not support charging.
- 2. DC 6V Cable: Powers the camera without batteries. The camera will turn off upon unplugging the 6V cable as it lacks a built-in battery.
SENSING ANGLE AND DISTANCE TEST
To test the sensing angle and monitoring distance:
- Toggle the power switch to TEST using the MENU button.
- Move in front of the camera at various expected positions and distances.
- If the red indicator LED light blinks, the position is sensed. If it does not blink, the position is outside the sensing area. Use these results to find the best mounting placement.
MOUNTING CAMERA
For scouting game or other outdoor applications, mount the camera securely:
- Mount on a relatively straight tree with a diameter of at least 15cm (6 inches). Ensure the tree is stable to prevent false triggers from wind sway. Position the camera facing north or south. Aiming east or west may lead to more false triggers due to rising/setting sun.
- For optimal photo quality, place the tree about 5 meters (16-17 ft.) away from the monitored area, with the camera mounted at a height of 0.75-1m (2.5-3.5ft.). Mounting too low may capture small creatures; mounting too high and facing downward can pick up shadows and ground temperature changes.
- For best night results, the subject should be within 30m (98ft) and no closer than 3m (10ft).
- To enhance flash, position the camera with a backdrop that reflects maximum light.
- Clear all vegetation from the camera's front. Small limbs, twigs, leaves, or grass blowing in the wind can cause false images.
- Test the camera by placing it facing a blank wall on a sturdy surface after following the above steps to rule out environmental factors or settings issues.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
Q1: Can't connect to home Wi-Fi router
The Wi-Fi trail camera connects via the TrailCam Go app only. It is not for general internet surfing but for reading photos/videos and setting up cameras.
Q2: Camera not found on App or not connected
- Get as close as possible (within 45ft due to Bluetooth limitations).
- Avoid areas with many electronic products.
- Ensure the camera is turned on (Test or On).
- Check that the camera battery level is good.
- Verify that both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your phone are enabled.
Q3: Why did the camera stop connecting after it was just connected?
- The app was left idle for over 2 minutes.
- Other apps require cellular connection or use the "Map" option, which may disconnect the Wi-Fi signal to switch to cellular data.
Q4: Can not take photos or videos.
- No TF card in the card slot.
- Corrupt TF card.
- Batteries power is too low.
Q5: The photo is too dark at night.
- The illumination parameter may not be set correctly. Refer to camera flash range settings.
- Lack of reflective background at night. Position the camera in an area with a backdrop to reflect light, e.g., 8-12m (20-30ft) from a field edge facing the woods.
- Low batteries power.
Q6: The camera shut down automatically in TEST
The camera is set to shut down automatically after 3 minutes of inactivity in TEST mode to prevent battery drain.
Q7: Camera LED light area appears water mist?
This is condensation inside the lens due to temperature differences. Leave the camera in a dry place for 1-2 days.
Q8: How do I change the language of the camera back to English?
Adjust the camera's on/off key to the middle setting mode, select Menu, and choose the fourth to last option in the menu to change the language.
Q9: Apple computer cannot read video files
Video file type is AVI, which may not be compatible. Consider changing the video player.
Q10: Three ways to get an image
After taking pictures or videos, they are stored on the camera's SD card. Export them using these methods:
- a: Check photos on the TrailCam Go App.
- b: Connect the camera to a computer via USB cable without removing the SD card. The computer will recognize it as a USB flash drive to view files.
- c: Insert the SD card into a card reader, connect it to the computer, and view files as a USB flash drive.
Q11: No photos were taken in motion detection
Follow these steps:
- Step 1: Remove all protective film from the camera lens. Maintain a distance of 35 meters (115 ft). Select "Mode" > "Motion Detection", choose the detection delay time, and set it for a few seconds. Animal movement traces should be recognized within seconds. Click "OK".
- Step 2: Select "Work Time", then "Open", and set the desired start time.
- Step 3: Select "PIR Sensitivity". Higher sensitivity leads to faster recognition but consumes more power.
- Step 4: Select "Detection Delay" to set the frequency of taking photos (e.g., every few seconds or hours).
- Step 5: In "Motion Test", move your hand, a person, or an animal to check if motion is detected. If so, you can start taking photos.
- Step 6: Press the button to "ON". The prompt will indicate "Motion Test" mode. Click "OK" to start shooting automatically.
