Power/Electric Cable

  • The rated voltage of this device is fixed. The required voltage is printed on the nameplate of this device.
  • Check the plug regularly, clean the dirt and ash piled up on the plug.
  • This digital piano only matches with the provided power cable and plug.
  • DO NOT put electric cables near heaters, radiators or any other heating devices. DO NOT overstress electrical cables with extreme bending or abrasion which can cause damage and expose wiring. DO NOT position cables under heavy items such as furniture etc.. DO NOT position electrical cables where they can be run over with wheels or in walkway’s where they can be tripped over.

DO NOT OPEN / DISMANTLE

  • DO NOT attempt to open / dismantle inner components or customize the device in any way. This device is not designed for user maintenance other than cleaning of external components. If you experience any problems, please turn off and unplug the device, and then consult a qualified NUX service technician to examine and repair the device.

Warning about humidity

  • DO NOT place this device where it will be expose to water, ( rain, mist, water sprinklers, water entertainment equipment etc. ) and DO NOT place liquid containers of any kind on or where they can be spilled on the device. If any liquids splash or are spilled onto the device, immediately UNPLUG from AC socket immediately. Then ask qualified NUX service staffs to examine and repair the device.
  • DO NOT plug device with wet hands.

Fire

  • To prevent risk of FIRE, DO NOT place open flames, such as candles, or flammables of any kind on our near the instrument.
  • Be aware of worn or damaged power cables, sudden unusual loss of sound during playing, and the smell and or visual signs of smoke or fire. In this event, immediately disconnect the device from AC socket. Consult a qualified NUX service technician to examine and repair the device.

Power/Electric Cable

  • When pulling out plug from AC socket, please grab the PLUG instead of power cable which can cause damage to the CABLE !
  • When the instrument is not in use for long periods of time or during a lighting storm, please unplug the device from any AC socket.
  • Do not connect the instrument to a power source with multiple connectors, which will lower the sound quality, and overheat your AC socket.

Assemble & Use

  • Please carefully read the attachment explaining the assemble process. Failure to assemble the instrument in the proper order will damage the instrument and potential cause danger to the user.
  • Please connect the external equipment while the digital piano is off.

Preparing to Play

Power Supply and Volume Control

Please insert the DC plug into DC 12V Jack. Next, connect the power supply to an AC outlet.

NOTE:
Use only the supplied power adapter. Using a different adapter may cause malfunctions or other issues.
Do NOT use the supplied power adapter with other devices. Please turn off NPK-10 when plugging or unplugging in the power supply.

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the power. During the booting up process, indicators on the top panel will light on in sequence. When backlit of both the power icon and the NUX logo are on, your NPK-10 is ready to be played.
  2. Press the Volume Up/Down buttons to adjust the master volume. Need a faster way to adjust the volume? Just try to hold down a Volume button.
  3. Hold down the Power button for two seconds to turn off the power.

Basic Operations

Button Operations
Basic functions are accessible by a simple press of the various onboard buttons. For example, you can activate the metronome whenever you press the Metronome button; you can adjust the master volume with the Volume Up/Down buttons.

Button and Key Combinations
More settings can be configured by pressing a button in combination with a key. For example, to select the KOTO tone:

  1. Hold down the [Grand Piano] sound button.
  2. Press the #G1 key to select the KOTO tone.
  3. Release the [Grand Piano] sound button.

Connecting a Pedal and Headphones

Connecting Headphones

There are two PHONES jacks, you can connect up to two stereo headphones here. When either PHONES jack is plugged in, the internal speakers of NPK-1/NPK-10 will be muted.

NOTE:
Please turn down the master volume before using headphones.
Do not use headphones for a long time at high volume levels. Otherwise, you may damage your hearing.

Sound and Touch

Sound

Selecting a Sound
Hold down the [Grand Piano] sound button and press one of the AO- #G1 keys, the sound changes. There are 12 built-in sounds, please refer to part one of the Function Charts for the full sound list.

Layering Two Sounds

  1. Hold down the [Grand Piano] sound button.
  2. Press two of the AO-#G1 keys simultaneously. For example, by pressing #C1 and #D1, you can layer HONKY-TONK with STRINGS.(The key pressed first is Voice 1 while the latter is Voice2.)
  3. Release the [Grand Piano] sound button.

NOTE:
To exit Layer mode, simply press the [Grand Piano] sound button, or select a single tone.

Dual Voice Mix Balance
You can adjust the balance between the two layered voices (i.e. Voice 1 & 2).

  1. Hold down the [Grand Piano] sound button.
  2. Press the C2 key to decrease, D2 to increase, or #C2 to restore the default value (equal balance). (Setting range is 1- 5, while the equal balance value is 3. Settings above 3 increase the volume of Voice 1, and vice versa.)
  3. Release the [Grand Piano] sound button to finish up the setting.

Touch Sensitivity

The keyboard sensitivity can be customized to cater to your personal preferences.

  1. Hold down the [Grand Piano] sound button.
  2. Press one of the C3 -E3 keys to change the setting.

Tone Brightness
  1. Hold down the [Grand Piano] sound button.
  2. Press the F2 key to make a sound mellower, G2 to make it brighter, or #F2 to restore the default setting. (Setting range is 1-5, while the default value is 3.)
  3. Release the [Grand Piano] sound button to finish up the setting.

Demo Songs and Drum Patterns

  1. Hold down the [Play/Stop] button.
  2. Press one of the AO-D3 keys to choose a demo song. Press one of the C4-B4 keys to choose a drum pattern.
  3. Release the [Play/Stop] button to finish up the setting.

NOTE:
Please refer to the specific Drum Patterns and Demo Songs lists on Page 19 and 20.
You can stop the demo song/drum pattern anytime by pressing the [Play/Stop] button.
You can adjust the tempo of the rhythm by holding down the [Metronome] button and pressing the C2 key (to decrease) or the D2 key (to increase).

Metronome Features

Using the Metronome

Metronome is a convenient tool for practicing with an accurate tempo.

Turning the Metronome On/Off

  1. Press the [Metronome] button to turn on the metronome.
  2. Press the [Metronome] button again to turn it off.

  1. Hold down the [Metronome] button.
  2. Press one of the C3- #G3 key to choose your preferred beats.
  3. Release the [Metronome] button to finish up the setting.

Changing the Tempo
When the metronome is activated or the demo song is playing, you can adjust the tempo within the range of 20 – 280 bpm. There are two approaches to do it:

A. Increasing/Decreasing the Tempo

  1. Hold down the [Metronome] button
  2. Press the C2 key to decrease the tempo, D2 to increase the tempo, or #C2 to restore the default tempo.
  3. Release the [Metronome] button to finish up the setting.

B. Specifying a Numeric Tempo

  1. Hold down the [Metronome] button.
  2. Press the AO – #F1 keys (assigned as o – 9) to input a 3-digit tempo value. Then press G1 to confirm. For example, to specify 76 bpm, press the AO(O), E1(7), #01(6), G1(confirm) keys in order.
  3. Release the [Metronome] button to finish up the setting.

Changing the Metronome Volume

  1. Hold down the [Metronome] button.
  2. Press the F2 key to decrease the volume, G2 to increase the volume, or #F2 to restore the default volume setting.
  3. Release the [Metronome] button to finish up the setting.

Using Built-in Effects

Reverb

  1. Hold down the [Function] button.
  2. Press one of the C3-E3 keys to choose your preferred reverb effect, press B2 to turn reverb off.
  3. Release the [Function] button to finish up the setting.

Changing the Depth of Reverb Effects
  1. Hold down the [Function] button.
  2. Press the F3 key to decrease the depth, G3to increase the depth, or #F3 to restore the default depth setting. (Setting range is 1-5, while the default value is 3.)

Chorus
  1. Hold down the [Function] button.

  2. Press one of the C7-E7 keys to set the Chorus depth.
  3. Release the [Function] button to finish up the setting.

Twin Piano and Pitch Adjustments

Twin Piano Mode

Twin Piano splits the keyboard for two people to play.
To enter Twin Piano mode, hold down the Function] button, and press the C4 key. The default split point is F4; the C3 key will become ‘C4’ for the left section while the C6 keywillbecome’C4’fortherightsection. To exit from Twin Piano mode, simply hold down the [Function] button and press the D4 key.

Changing the Split Point

  1. Hold down the [Function] button and press the #C4 key. Backlit of the [Function] button will start to blink.
  2. Press one of the A2 – C7 keys to set the new split point. Then the backlit of the [Function] button will tum off automatically.

Changing the Voice

Select a voice before entering the Twin Piano mode, and this voice will remain the voice of the left-hand range. (If layered voices, only the main voice, i.e. Voice 1, will remain.)
For the right-hand range, you can select a single voice or layered voices directly in Twin Piano mode.

Octave Shifting for Each Voice

  1. Hold down the [Function] button.
  2. Press the C5 key to lower or the D5 key to raise the pitch of the left-hand section one octave.
  3. Press the F5 key to lower or the G5 key to raise the pitch of the right-hand section one octave.
  4. Release the [Function] button to finish up the setting.

Note:
When Twin Piano mode is off, the F5 and G5 keys shift the octave of the entire keyboard.

Transpose

Transpose lets you shift the pitch of the entire keyboard up or down in semitone intervals, thus you can play in a key more comfortable for you or easily match a singer or other instrument.

  1. Hold down the [Function] button.
  2. Press one of the #F1 – F2 keys to transpose the pitch by the corresponding semitones.
  3. Release the [Function] button to finish up the setting.

Master Tuning

If someone in your band uses an instrument that’s tuned with a different standard pitch, you can adjust the Master Tuning.

  1. Hold down the [Function] button.
  2. Press the A3 key to lower or the B3 key to raise the standard pitch.
  3. Release the [Function] button to finish up the setting.

Recording and Playing Back

Recording and Playing Back a Performance

The NPK-1/NPK-10 allows you to record & playback your performance effortlessly.

  1. Hold down the [Play/Stop] button, then press the [Function] button; backlights of the [Function],[Play/Stop] and [Metronome] buttons will start to blink. The NPK-1/NPK-10 enters recording standby mode.
  2. Recording starts automatically when you start playing the keyboard, and backlit of the [Function] button will be turned off. You can press the [Metronome] button to turn metronome off.
  3. To stop recording, press the [Play/Stop] button. The backlit will go off and the data will be automatically saved.
  4. Press the [Play/Stop] button to play back the recorded performance. Press the [Play/Stop] button again to stop the playing.

Note:
DO NOT unplug the power supply during the recording process, or you will lose all recorded data.
Starting a new recording process will replace the existing recorded file.
A maximum of approx. 18000 notes can be saved.

Other Features

Auto Sleep Function

If the NPK-1/NPK-10 is not used for an hour, the sleep mode automatically activates. When it is in sleep mode the backlit of power button will start ‘breathing’. You can press the [Power] button to wake it up.

Saving your Settings

The NPK-1/NPK-10 allows you to save your settings and easily call them up for your next performance. This is called the “Preset Mode”

  1. Hold down the [Function] button and press either the C6 or D6 key to save your settings.
  2. Release the [Function] button to finish up the setting.
  3. Hold down the [Function] button and press the #C6 or#D6 key to recall the settings saved with CB or D6.
  4. Hold down the [Function] button and press the E6 key to exit the preset mode.

NOTE:
There are only 2 memory banks, saving new setting to an existing bank will overwrite the existing setting. Also, restoring the factory settings will erase all your settings.
Metronome beats will be saved with your settings, while the tempo will be set to default. If desired, you can change the tempo as per instructions of [Changing the tempo].

Restore to Factory Setting

If anything goes wild, you can easily restore to factory setting.

Hold down the [Function] button and press the CS key. The indicators will start to blink for 5 seconds and then the NPK-1/NPK-10 will reboot automatically to restore to factory setting.

Using the Bluetooth

The built-in Bluetooth module allows you to connect other Bluetooth enabled smart devices.

Play Backing Track

  1. Hold down the [Function] button and press the AO key to turn on/off the Bluetooth. You can check the ON/OFF status from the Bluetooth indicator.
  2. Release the [Function] button to finish up the setting.
  3. Turn on the Bluetooth function of your smart device.
  4. On your smart device, select “Piano Audio”. The NPK-1/NPK-10 will be paired with your smart device.

ALWAYS TURN DOWN the VOLUME of your smart device before pairing it with the NPK-1/NPK-10. Keep the volume at a safe level which will not damage the listener’s hearing.

Using the APP

The “Piano Mate” APP provides an interactive way to help the beginners learn and practice with NUX digital pianos. Download the APP to your iOS/ Android devices, open a song, and connect the digital piano via Bluetooth or USB.
