Frequently Asked Questions

Does “universal compatibility” include the Netgear orbi rbk750 router?

You could connect it to an Orbi system, but it would not be part of the Orbi mesh. If you want an additional extender, you can add an extra Orbi satellite to your existing system.

What is the advantage or disadvantage of this eax20 range extender versus the Netgear nighthawk wifi 6 mesh system?

I did a chat with Netgear about your question. The eax20 works with your current router to create a mesh system. Easy setup. The mk62 can work with an existing router, but requires a more in-depth setup, in that you have to make your existing router a bridge. Additionally (according to Netgear) it does not create the seamless WiFi network that the eax20 does. Bottom line – the eax20 is designed to work with your existing router, and the mk62 is better suited to be a standalone system. I am sure a more network-savvy person can make it work (and better explain), but it is beyond my abilities. I will go with the eax20 or eax80.

Can the eax80 be used to create a mesh network by wirelessly ‘connecting’ it to the eax20 and cax80?

The 1st answer is incorrect. I actually have a CAX80 attached to 2 EAX80’s and they run beautifully. You need to use the nighthawk app and it will do the rest. Literally takes 5-7 mins

Where do I find the wifi password for the extender? I can’t set it up because I can’t find the password for the Netgear wifi.

Look for the sticker on the bottom. The very small print. You should see a WPS pass number. But if I remember correctly, the easiest way to set it up using the WPS button below the six lights in the front. It should connect if you push and hold the button on the extender until it starts flashing then activate the router WPS by pushing and holding the WPS button on your router. With luck, they should find each other and connect.

Is this extender difficult to set up and use or is it easy?

The NETGEAR WiFi 6 Mesh Range Extender is easy to set up and use. To set up, you use the NETGEAR Nighthawk. The app provides step-by-step instructions to set up an extended WiFi network.

Is this mesh extender compatible with the Nighthawk ax5400 router?

Not sure what you mean by “compatible”. I’m using this extender with a Netgear R9000 router with no issues.

Can you set it to have a different SSID and password then the router?

Yes, I think so.

Does this support 5G frequency?

This supports 5 GHz WiFi (which is not the same as 5 G cellular, in case that is what you were asking)

Does this need to be wired to a cable modem with cat5/6 cable?

No, and yes. What’s nice about this product is that it is a true extender where it does not need to be wired in however, it gives you the option to connect it with the cat six cables. If you do have the cable connected then the extender would work at its max level.

Can this eax80 extender work with Netgear nighthawk whole home mesh wifi 6 system (mk62) – ax1800 router?

Yes, they are both WiFi 6 systems so they will work together.

Can this be used as a client device and use the Ethernet ports to wired devices with no wifi repeating?

Yes, just turn off the wifi radios.

Does the eax80 work with the 220-volt mains power supply?

Yes, as long as the outlet used for powering the unit is 110volt as almost all normal household outlets are…if the outlet used is also used for lamps, vacuum cleaners, toasters, TVs, and other normal appliances then you should have no problem.

If I connect eax80 to my router, does it reduce the router’s wifi speed to half? because I heard that the extenders reduce the speed.

This is wireless only, with no ethernet connection to your router. Speed is just fine

Will this work with Orbi? We have 3 Orbis but need an additional boost to get upstairs.

No, this is meant to work with non-Orbi units. You would want an additional Orbi satellite (like the RBS50 if you have an Orbi WiFi 5 system) to add to your current system.

Will this work with the Orbi AX6000?

No this is designed for setting up a mesh network with non-Orbi systems. You would need an Orbi WiFi 6 satellite if you wanted to add an additional unit to an existing Orbi WiFi 6 system.
