Modular Garden Assembly Instructions (Square or Rectangular Planters)
Assembly of the Modular Garden Components is designed to be possible for a single person, though we recommend a two-person assembly team for faster set-up.
Safety
- Wear work gloves while handling sheet metal and lumber as the edges of the sheet metal may be sharp, and the lumber may cause splinters.
- Wear safety glasses while operating power tools.
- We recommend a face shield and ear protection if cutting your own lumber.
Preparation & Materials
What’s In The Kit
- 4 Corner Brackets
- 100 #8 ¾ inch screws (96 required)
- 24 Cedar Planks (of specified length)
What You’ll Need (Not Included)
- Drill (recommended) with Phillips bit or Screwdriver
- Measuring tape and a square
Step-by-Step Assembly
Step 1: Preparation and Cutting
- Select a level location for your planter, or level the ground beforehand.
Step 2: Building the Side Frames
Note: If you wish to attach 4x4s to the corners – for hanging plants, stringing lights etc., secure these 4x4s to the provided holes F I RST. Your planks will then not be able to stick through the bracket and will instead seat flush (no need to measure 1.5 in from the end of the board). This is possible, but will require two people to assemble, in order to hold the planks in the desired position while drilling, as without the overlap, the planks will be more prone to slipping out of the set location until secured.
Note: If building lengths longer than 6ft, we recommend use of center (or joining) support brackets to help reduce bowing of the planks.

- Mark 1.5 inches from the end of each board.
- Starting with two frame corners, slide the boards into the slots, starting at the top, as can be identified by the rounded spade shape
- Align the boards so the bent screw flange matches your 1.5-inch mark.

- Secure the boards in the slots using the provided screws through the holes in the flange. It may be useful to lay the frame down on its side for ease of access, especially for the bottom plank.
- Moving top to bottom, continue to align and secure the boards.
- Repeat this entire process with the remaining two frame corners to complete two side panels.

Step 3: Final Integration
- Stand the two completed side frames up.
- Use the remaining boards to join the two sides together, still working top to bottom. The structure should have enough structural integrity to be tipped onto any side necessary for drilling access.

Step 4: Plant!
- Fill the planter completely with your desired soil. If required for drainage control, or you wish to reduce the total amount of soil used, a filler/drainage material may be placed in the center of the box, and surrounded by soil. You may also wish to place a piece of landscaping fabric below the planter depending on your bottom surface.
- Be strategic with your planting, accounting for a sun dominant side, shady side, and partial sun sides, as well as what plants tend to grow vertical rapidly (tomatoes, peas, beans etc.) vs what plants will grow and creep down (zucchini, squash etc.).
