Installation Steps
STEP 1. REMOVING STOCK COOLER
Unscrew all highlighted screws to remove the stock cooler and backplate.
- Backplate screws
- Stock cooler screws
Make sure to unplug the LED and Fan cables when you remove the stock cooler.
Visual Description: The page displays images of the ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 4090/4080 and ASUS TUF GAMING RTX 4090/4080 graphics cards. Arrows and callouts indicate specific screws on the stock cooler and backplate that need to be removed. A note advises unplugging LED and Fan cables from the GPU.
STEP 2. APPLYING THERMAL PASTE & PADS
Clean off the original thermal compound. We recommend using isopropanol alcohol.
Remove the protective film and place the thermal pads on the correct position on the PCB.
Apply the Phanteks Thermal Compound to the center of the GPU chip.
Make sure to remove the protective film on both sides of the thermal pads.
Visual Description: A diagram of the GPU's Printed Circuit Board (PCB) for ASUS ROG STRIX / TUF RTX 4090/4080 is shown. Numbered circles (1 through 6) indicate the precise locations where thermal pads should be applied. The central area of the GPU chip is highlighted for thermal compound application.
STEP 3. MOUNT THE WATER BLOCK
Secure the support bracket to the GPU block first.
Carefully position the water block onto the graphics card. Align the mounting holes on the PCB with the holes on the water block.
Secure the water block with 4x M2.5x5mm screws and washers to the PCB.
Secure the Support Bracket with the original cooler screw.
Visual Description: Diagrams illustrate the assembly process. First, the support bracket is attached to the GPU block. Then, the assembled water block is carefully aligned with the mounting holes on the GPU PCB and secured with four M2.5x5mm screws and washers. The support bracket is secured with the original cooler screw. A 'PRO TIP' graphic suggests laying the GPU flat on its side, with the water block attached, without resting on the PCI bracket.
STEP 4. APPLYING THERMAL PADS
Remove the protective film on both sides and place the thermal pads on the correct position on the backplate.
Visual Description: A diagram of the GPU's backplate shows six numbered areas (1 through 6) corresponding to the placement of the thermal pads. The instruction emphasizes removing protective film from both sides of the pads before application.
STEP 5. INSTALL THE BACKPLATE
Carefully position the backplate onto the graphics card. Align the mounting holes on the PCB with the holes on the backplate.
Secure the backplate with 8x M2.5x8mm flush screws and 2x M2.5x6mm flush screws to the PCB.
Visual Description: The backplate is shown being aligned with the GPU PCB. Callouts indicate the locations where eight M2.5x8mm flush screws and two M2.5x6mm flush screws are used to secure the backplate to the PCB.
STEP 6. INSTALL INTO THE SYSTEM
- Connect the D-RGB cable to the D-RGB strip in the water block.
- Install the GPU into the system.
- Install the waterloop and Stop Fittings.
PRO TIP: All Phanteks D-RGB products can be daisy-chained together.
Optional: Use the Motherboard cable to connect the LED strip to the motherboard.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Always perform a leak test before providing power to any system components.
Visual Description: Diagrams show the D-RGB cable connecting to the water block's D-RGB strip. An optional connection shows the motherboard cable linking the LED strip to the motherboard. A final graphic indicates connecting to a Phanteks Case / Motherboard Cable. A prominent warning symbol ⚠️ emphasizes the need for a leak test before powering the system.
