Preparation for Testing

  1. Ensure the comparator block is clean and dry. Rinse with the water to be tested before use.
  2. Gather the appropriate TesTabs for the desired test (DPD 1 for Free Chlorine, Phenol Red for pH).

Free Chlorine Test Procedure

  1. Fill the left chamber of the comparator block to the "FILL" line with the water sample.
  2. Add one DPD 1 TesTab to the water sample in the left chamber. Do not touch the TesTab directly with your fingers.
  3. Cap the chamber and shake gently until the TesTab dissolves completely. A pink color will develop if free chlorine is present.
  4. Immediately compare the color in the chamber to the Free Chlorine (CI DPD) color standards on the comparator block. Read the result that most closely matches the sampte tae.

pH Test Procedure

  1. Fill the right chamber of the comparator block to the "FILL" line with the water sample.
  2. Add one Phenol Red TesTab to the water sample in the right chamber. Do not touch the TesTab directly with your fingers.
  3. Cap the chamber and shake gently until the TesTab dissolves completely. A color will develop indicating the pH level.
  4. Immediately compare the color in the chamber to the pH color standards on the comparator block. Read the result that most closely matches the sampte tae.

Tuhipoka: For accurate results, perform tests immediately after collecting the water sample and read results promptly after TesTab dissolution.

  • Store TesTabs in their original blister packs in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
