CMi4110 / WZU-LR Integrated MCM for Landis+Gyr UH50/UC50, LoRaWAN
Introduction
The CMi4110 is an integrated meter connectivity module designed to be mounted inside a Landis+Gyr UH50 meter or UC50 calculator. It delivers meter data via a LoRaWAN network. For a comprehensive description of the product or information in other languages, please visit the Elvaco AB website: http://www.elvaco.com.
Module Overview
The module features several interface points:
- 1. Meter Interface
- 2. Push Button
- 3. Green LED
- 4. Red LED
- 5. Tamper Switch (optional)
- 6. External antenna connector (optional)
- 7. LoRaWAN antenna
- 8. NFC antenna
Mounting
The CMi4110 is installed in module slot 2 (the right slot) of a Landis+Gyr UH50 meter with software version 5.15 or higher, or a UC50 calculator with software version 8.06 or higher. To install, gently grasp the device by its outer edges and press it into position.
Note: This is an electrostatic-sensitive device. Ensure you observe the necessary ESD protective measures during installation.
Antenna
The CMi4110 is available in two versions: CMi4110Int with an internal PCB antenna, and CMi4110Ext equipped with a SMA connector (6) for an external antenna.
Note: When mounting an external antenna, ensure it is placed at least 0.5 meters away from the meter.
Activation
Upon delivery, the CMi4110 is in passive mode, meaning it does not transmit messages. The module can be activated in one of the following ways:
Using the Module Push Button
Press and hold the push button (2) for at least 5 seconds until the green LED illuminates.
Using the Elvaco OTC App
Download the Elvaco OTC app from Google Play. Scan the module using your phone (ensure NFC is activated). If necessary, remove the meter's front enclosure. In the app, select "Apply mode", set the "Power mode" to "active", and click "Apply settings". Place your phone with its back facing the right side of the meter, parallel to the module. New settings are transferred via NFC.
After initial activation, the green and red LEDs will light up for one second. The module will then attempt to join the LoRaWAN network. Each attempt is indicated by a short blink of the green LED. A successful join attempt will result in the green LED staying lit for 8 seconds.
If the module fails to join the LoRaWAN network six times, it will wait for one hour before attempting to join again to conserve battery. A new join attempt cycle can be manually initiated using the push button (2).
Initial Data Rate Calibration
Upon activation, the CMi4110 will initially transmit messages every minute. This allows the LoRaWAN network to adjust to an optimal data rate. After 2 minutes, the module will revert to its normal settings, with the message transmit interval determined by the device configuration.
Device Configuration
Before activating the module, it is recommended to apply the correct configuration profile using the Elvaco mobile application. Settings are transferred to the device via NFC.
Join EUI
The Join EUI is the identification number of the application server where data from the module will be delivered. By default, the JoinEUI is set to 0000000000000000 in all CMi4110 modules.
Activation Type
There are two activation types for LoRaWAN: Over-the-Air Activation (OTAA) and Activation by Personalization (ABP). Elvaco strongly recommends using OTAA, where network keys are generated each time the module joins the LoRaWAN network. In contrast, ABP requires manual setting of keys that remain constant.
Application Key
The application key for each CMi4110 device is generated by Elvaco and used in OTAA mode to create network keys when the module joins the LoRaWAN network. These keys are managed securely using Elvaco's OTC (One Touch Commissioning) solution, which includes the mobile application.
Message Format
The CMi4110 supports four message formats: Standard, Compact, JSON, and Scheduled-daily redundant. For detailed information on the structure and payload of each format, please refer to the CMi4110 user's manual.
Transmit Interval
This parameter determines how frequently the module transmits messages.
EcoMode
Enabling EcoMode can achieve a battery life of up to 11 years. The EcoMode table dictates how often the module is permitted to transmit data for each data rate. If the transmit interval exceeds the limit specified in the EcoMode table, it will be automatically reduced.
Configuration Lock
The CMi4110 features a configuration lock to prevent unauthorized access. When enabled, a user requires the device-specific Product Access Key to access the module. Keys are managed securely via Elvaco's OTC solution and the mobile application.
After setting all configuration parameters, place your phone with its back facing the right side of the meter, parallel to the module. Click "Apply settings" and hold the phone still until it vibrates three times, confirming successful transfer of new settings via NFC.
Server Configuration
Before the CMi4110 can transmit messages via the LoRaWAN network, device information must be registered on the network server. For OTAA mode, the following parameters need to be registered:
- Device EUI (16-digit number on the device label)
- Application key
- Join EUI
Note: If the activation mode is set to "ABP", the application key is not required for the network server. Instead, the following information will be needed: Network session key, Application session key, and Device address.
