  1. Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone.
  2. Launch the 'Hohem Joy' app and click 'START' to enter the photo/recording interface. (Ensure phone Bluetooth is enabled and connect via the app).

Landscape Mode: Mounting and Balancing

⚠️ Do not turn on the gimbal without the smartphone roughly balanced and mounted.

It is highly recommended to remove the phone case before mounting.

Roughly balancing the gimbal before powering on can increase motor efficiency, stabilization, and battery life.

For smartphones larger than 6.7 inches (e.g., iPhone 13 Pro Max), the iSteady Mobile Plus can function well even without perfect balancing before powering on.

  1. Pull the phone clamp and mount the phone.
  2. Push the phone to the rightmost, close to the motor.
  3. Loosen the knob and slide the arm to balance the gimbal. Adjust for small phones (e.g., iPhone 13 mini) on the left, and big phones (e.g., iPhone 13 Pro Max) on the right.
  4. Tighten the knob.
  5. Long press the power button to power on.

Specifications: Max Payload: 280g. Phone clamp width: 58mm~89mm.

Portrait Mode: Mounting and Balancing

⚠️ Please turn off the gimbal first, then rotate the phone clamp and mount the phone. Do not turn on the gimbal without the smartphone roughly balanced and mounted.

  1. Loosen the knob, slide the arm to the leftmost, and tighten the knob.
  2. Rotate the phone clamp 90 degrees.
  3. Pull the phone clamp and mount the phone. Adjust the phone up or down to roughly balance the gimbal.
  4. Make the phone roughly balance, and long press the power button to power on.

Quick Switch to Portrait Mode

Rotate the handle to automatically switch to portrait mode.

After switching to portrait mode, the joystick controls only left and right rotation.

Limitations for quick switch:

  1. In POV mode.
  2. When the handle is perpendicular.
  3. When the app setting for left/right joystick is 'roll'.

  2. Double press the trigger button to recenter the gimbal.
  3. Press the mode button five times to start auto calibration. Do not touch the gimbal during calibration.
  4. Two beeps indicate calibration is complete; the gimbal will recenter and return to normal operation.

If calibration fails (e.g., not on a flat surface), the gimbal will beep, flash all 4 mode lights, and enter sleep mode. Press any button (except joystick) to wake it and retry.

FAQ

Q: Why does the gimbal vibrate after powering on?

A: Ensure the smartphone is mounted before powering on. Keep the phone's bottom close to the motor. Remove phone cases, especially for large phones. Adjust motor power via the app if the phone is too heavy or light. Refer to 'Auto calibration'.

Q: Why does the gimbal not work properly, and all 4 mode lights are flashing?

A: Holding the upper part of the gimbal may cause it to enter sleep mode for motor protection. Press any button (except joystick) to wake it up and only hold the handle during use.

Q: Why the phone app cannot be connected via Bluetooth?

A: 1. Enable phone Bluetooth (Enable ONLY). 2. Turn on the gimbal. 3. Launch Hohem Joy app. 4. Connect via app prompt or search (Device name: "iM5-xxxxxx"). 5. Click to connect. (Important: Connect within the app!). If connection fails, exit app, restart Bluetooth, and retry.

Delete all paired Bluetooth devices: Push up the slider while pressing the mode button. Bluetooth light flashes green 5 times. Then try again.

Android Bluetooth Connection Notes: 1. Turn on location service. 2. Grant location permissions for the app.
