Safety Guidelines
General Safety
Before placing your children in the stroller, please follow these instructions.
WARNING: Always check with your pediatrician for a recommended starting age/weight for your baby in an all-terrain stroller.
WARNING: Always set brakes when the stroller is not being pushed so that it will not roll away. NEVER leave the stroller unattended on a hill or incline, as it may slide down.
WARNING: Avoid serious injury from falling or sliding out. Always use the safety harness.
STRANGULATION HAZARD: Child can strangle in loose straps. Never leave a child in the seat when straps are loose or undone.
Brakes
- To engage brakes: Apply light downward pressure to the brake lever located on each rear wheel. You may need to move the stroller slightly forward or backward to align the brake teeth with the wheel brake cluster (refer to Figure 14). Check that the stroller will not move and that both brakes are properly applied.
- To release brakes: Gently lift up on the brake lever.
- Your stroller may be equipped with a caliper brake system (refer to Figure 15). This front wheel bicycle-style caliper brake system is designed to assist in slowing the stroller on a hill or in an emergency. Squeeze the brake handle to slow the stroller (refer to Figure 16). The hand brake is not to be used as a parking brake.
Front Wheel Lock (Type 2 Only)
WARNING: Always lock the front swivel wheel in the straight position before placing or removing your children from the jogger.
The Type 2 swivel jogger is equipped with a front wheel locking device. A remote release lever is located under the right side handle. Pull to disengage the wheel and push to engage the locking device located under the footrest.
- Figure 17a shows the remote release lever.
- Figure 17b illustrates the front wheel lock working in a horizontal motion (left to right) for locking and unlocking.
- Figure 17c illustrates the front wheel lock working in a vertical motion (top to bottom) for locking and unlocking.
Securing the Child (5-Point Harness)
The shoulder straps of the 5-point harness have two attachment positions. Select the position that places the shoulder strap level with, or below, the top of the child's shoulder.
- Carefully place the child in the stroller seat. Bring the safety harness around the child's waist and over the shoulders. Place the crotch strap between the child's legs.
- Insert the male end of each shoulder/waist belt into the buckle on the crotch strap. Tighten the harness to be snug around the child's waist and over the child's shoulders (refer to Figure 18a).
- To release the harness: Apply pressure to both sides of each male clip until the clip is released (refer to Figure 18b). This requires moderate effort to prevent accidental release by the child.
Seatback Positioning
The seat has a multiple-position recline controlled by a strap and buckle assembly behind the seat (refer to Figure 19).
- To recline the seat: Loosen the strap through the buckle and adjust to the required recline position (refer to Figure 20).
- To place the seat back in a more upright position: Press upward on the seat back with one hand while pulling the strap through the buckle with the other. The strap will lock automatically.
The upright position should be used only for a child that is at least 6 months old. Always readjust the safety harness, including the shoulder belts, when repositioning the seatback.
Jogging with Your Stroller
When jogging with your child, use the following safety features:
- Lock the front swivel wheel in the straight position (Type 2 only).
- Safety Wrist Strap: Always connect the safety strap to either wrist when jogging. This strap will keep the stroller from rolling away if you trip while running (refer to Figure 21). The safety strap must remain connected to the rear lower frame cross member at all times. This location is intended to prevent the stroller from tipping backward if you fall. The safety strap includes a Velcro attachment for storage on the left side of the stroller when not in use (refer to Figure 22).
- Caliper Brake System: Squeeze the brake handle to slow the stroller (refer to Figure 16). NEVER use the hand brake as a parking brake. This feature is only available on Type 1 strollers.
Tires
Tires are shipped un-inflated. They should be inflated regularly to between 20 to 25 pounds of air pressure. Always use a bicycle-style hand air pump to inflate the tires.
Folding and Unfolding
WARNING: Care must be taken when folding and unfolding the stroller to prevent finger entrapment.
To Fold Stroller
- Close the canopy.
- Recline the seat by releasing the buckle as described in the seatback positioning section.
- Fold the stroller by simultaneously depressing the safety lock on the right side and the fold buttons located on the central joints (refer to Figure 23).
- When the fold latches are released, the handle will begin to fall toward the floor. Release the fold buttons and press downward on the stroller handle until it is completely folded.
- Secure the stroller in the folded position by hooking the fold latch (located on the right side) over the rivet that protrudes from the frame (refer to Figure 24).
To Unfold Stroller
- Stand the stroller on the ground with all three wheels touching the ground.
- Release the folding latch, which is located on the right side (refer to Figure 25).
- Lift up on the stroller handle with both hands until the stroller frame is erect and locked in the open position (refer to Figure 26). The stroller has spring-loaded latches on both sides of the frame. Test that both latches are fully engaged prior to placing your child in the stroller.
Troubleshooting
Stroller Pulls to One Side (Type 1: Fixed Front Wheel)
The fixed front wheel jogging stroller may sometimes feel like it is pulling to one side due to tire pressure or front wheel alignment.
- Tire Pressure: If rear tires do not have equal pressure, the stroller will pull towards the side with lower pressure. Check that rear tires have the same pressure. Add air to a maximum of 25 pounds using a bicycle-style hand air pump.
- Front Wheel Alignment: The stroller is designed so the front wheel can be adjusted to correct alignment problems. Refer to page 3 for an expanded view of the front fork assembly. To align the front wheel:
- Loosen the wheel via the quick release handle (as in assembly step 2).
- Grab the front wheel directly in front of the stroller and push the wheel in the opposite direction of the pulling problem. The axle will move within the slot on the fork.
- Move the wheel a small amount. Retighten the quick release handle.
- Push the empty stroller across a smooth surface and note if it runs straight. Re-adjust the axle a small amount at a time until the stroller tracks straight. A minute movement of the axle significantly affects tracking.
- You can mark the holding plate position with a pen if you detach the front wheel regularly. The hole in the fork allows adjustment for pulling right, going straight, or pulling left.
If you continue to have difficulty with tracking, contact customer service.
Caliper Brake Does Not Slow the Stroller Down
The caliper brake system is designed to assist in slowing the stroller. Ensure the quick release lever is in the down position (facing the front of the stroller).
If the quick release lever is closed and braking is still inadequate, the brake cable tension needs adjustment:
- Fine Tuning Tension Nut: Located on the end of the brake cable just above the caliper. Turn the tension nut counter-clockwise to increase tension.
- Cable Length Adjustment: If maximum tension nut adjustment is insufficient, adjust cable length. Return the tension nut to its factory setting (turn clockwise until it stops). Loosen the cable clamp nut holding the brake cable to the caliper. Squeeze the caliper so the brake pads just touch the rim. Pull the cable through the clamp nut until slack is removed. Retighten the cable clamp nut. Retest braking and fine-tune tension with the nut.
Brakes are adjustable to compensate for brake pad wear. If you experience difficulty, contact customer service. Most bicycle shops can also perform this adjustment.
Reverse steps if brakes are too tight.
