User Manual
Introduction
Thank you for choosing the PCE-ABT 220 analytical balance. This user manual provides information on installation, accessories, troubleshooting, customer service, and general maintenance. It also presents various application possibilities. Please read the user manual carefully before commissioning. If you have any questions about the balance, please contact us. PCE balances are ideal for weighing in the laboratory and for general use. The balances can also be used for some advanced weighing functions.

Balance Calibration
Press the CAL button, and it will display: CAL XXX.XXXX, and the balance will start internal calibration. You can also select manual calibration with a standard weight, and the instructions will show you the further steps.
Calibration Types:
- One-point calibration
- Multi-Calibration
- Internal-Calibration
Balance Location
- Do not place the balance in a location where accuracy may be affected.
- Avoid extreme temperatures. Do not expose the device to direct sunlight or place it near an air conditioning unit.
- Avoid unsuitable tables. The table or floor must be firm and vibration-free.
- Avoid unstable power sources. Do not use the balance near devices with high power consumption, such as welding equipment or large motors.
- Do not place the balance near vibrating machinery.
- Avoid high humidity, as this can lead to condensation. Avoid direct contact with water. Do not spray water on the balance or immerse it in water.
- Avoid air movements caused by fans or open doors. Do not place the device near open windows, fans, or air conditioning units.
- Keep the balance clean. Do not place anything on the balance when it is not in use.
Balance Configuration
Mounting the Balance
- Place the balance on a firm, vibration-free surface.
- Carefully open the windshield cover and insert the stainless steel weighing pan.
- Level the balance using the adjustable feet and the spirit level.
- Connect the balance to the power supply.
- To improve performance, let the balance warm up for approximately 30-60 minutes and calibrate it before use.
Aligning the Balance
After placing the balance in the correct position, align it using the adjustable feet and the spirit level. Turn the adjustable feet at the back of the balance until the bubble of the spirit level is in the center.

Selectable sensitivities:
- Low Sensitivity
- Normal Sensitivity
- Max. Sensitivity

Selectable speeds:
- Low Speed
- Normal Speed
- High Speed
Weighing Unit Configuration
In weighing mode, press "CONVERSION" to select the unit. There are 4 units to choose from: g/ct/oz/mg.
Piece Counting Function
The balance has a piece counting function. Have products with the same weight and a minimum weight of ≥0.5 mg ready.
1 - Select the quantity of the sample to be placed on the weighing pan.
2 - Select the weight value you want to weigh. Under "Sample weight", the weight of the sample will be displayed. After the weight has stabilized, tap it again, and the result will be displayed and saved.
3 - Tap here to get the total weight. Tap again to check. Carefully remove the balance from the packaging and lift it out of the carton. In the packaging, you will find everything you need to start weighing.
4 - The quantity is displayed on the screen.
Percentage Function
Check the percentage weighing function:
1 - Select 100% to place on the balance.
2 - Tap the value you want to weigh. The weight will be displayed. After the weight has stabilized, tap it again. The result will be checked and saved.
3 - Tap here to weigh the total weight, then tap again to check the weight.
4 - The percentage is displayed here.
Density Function
Works the same as the piece counting function, but you tap on "Air weight" and "Weight in air" and then on "Weighing in liquid" and the result will be displayed on the screen.
Troubleshooting
If problems occur, you can identify them and find a solution.
Error | Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
No display | Not connected to the power supply; Fuse defective; Damage to the power transformer. | Connect the power cable. Replace the fuse. Replace the power transformer. Contact the manufacturer. |
Unstable weight | Poor working conditions; The windshield is open; An object is between the table and the balance; Unstable power supply. | Maintain stable environmental conditions, close doors and windows; Close the windshield flap; Remove the object; Connect to a stable power supply. |
Weight readings are incorrect | The balance is not calibrated. Do not calibrate before weighing. | Calibration; Calibrate as soon as possible. |

The data output format is as follows:
- 1: Model or decimal point
- 2: Space or decimal point

- 4: + or - or decimal point
- 5: Data
- 6-11: Data or decimal point
- 12: Data

- 14: Unit 2
- 15: Unit 3
- 16: Enter
- 17: Cover
Printer Setting
You can select the baud rate and communication type according to different printers or PC connection.
Disposal
NOTE regarding the Battery Ordinance (BattV)
Batteries must not be disposed of in household waste: The end consumer is legally obliged to return them. Used batteries can be returned to designated collection points or to PCE Deutschland GmbH, among others.

For the implementation of the ElektroG (return and disposal of electrical and electronic equipment), we take back our devices. They will either be recycled by us or disposed of according to legal requirements via a recycling company. Alternatively, you can hand in your old devices at designated collection points.
