Basic Measurement Procedures

The following diagrams illustrate basic measurement procedures:

DC Voltage (V=) Measurement

Procedure:

  1. Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Turn the dial to the desired DC voltage range (e.g., 20V).
  3. Connect the test leads across the component or power source to be measured.
  4. Read the measurement on the display.

AC Voltage (V~) Measurement

Procedure:

  1. Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Turn the dial to the desired AC voltage range (e.g., 200V).
  3. Connect the test leads across the component or power source to be measured.
  4. Read the measurement on the display.

DC Current (A=) Measurement

Procedure:

  1. Connect the red test lead to the 10A or mA jack (depending on expected current) and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Turn the dial to the desired DC current range.
  3. Connect the test leads in series with the circuit.
  4. Read the measurement on the display.

Resistance (Ω) Measurement

Procedure:

  1. Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Turn the dial to the desired resistance range (e.g., 200Ω).
  3. Connect the test leads across the resistor to be measured.
  4. Read the measurement on the display.

DC Voltage (V=) Measurement (Low Voltage)

Procedure:

  1. Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA jack and the black test lead to the COM jack.
  2. Turn the dial to the desired DC voltage range (e.g., 2V).
  3. Connect the test leads across the component or power source to be measured.
  4. Read the measurement on the display.

Transistor hFE Measurement

Procedure:

  1. Insert the transistor into the hFE socket according to its pinout (NPN or PNP).
  2. Turn the dial to the hFE position.
  3. Read the hFE value on the display.
