Charging & Recharging
Lead-acid batteries require routine maintenance to ensure a full charge and long battery life. All batteries lose energy from self-discharge over time, and this loss is more rapid at higher temperatures. Therefore, batteries need periodic charging to replace energy lost through self-discharge.
When the unit is not in frequent use, the manufacturer recommends recharging the battery at least every 30 days to maintain its health and performance.
Jump-Starting a Vehicle
This Jump-Starter is equipped with an On/Off power switch. Once the connections are properly made, turn the switch on to jump-start the vehicle.
- Turn off the vehicle ignition and all accessories (radio, A/C, lights, connected cell phone chargers, etc.). Place the vehicle in "park" and set the emergency brake.
- Ensure the Jump-Starter power switch is turned to the OFF position.
- Remove jumper clamps from their storage tabs. Connect the red clamp first, then the black clamp.
- Procedure for jump-starting a NEGATIVE GROUNDED SYSTEM (negative battery terminal is connected to chassis) (MOST COMMON):
- 4a. Connect the positive (+) red clamp to the vehicle battery's positive terminal.
- 4b. Connect the negative (-) black clamp to the vehicle's chassis or a solid, non-moving, metal vehicle component or body part. Never clamp directly to the negative battery terminal or a moving part. Refer to the automobile owner's manual for specific grounding points.
- When clamps are connected properly, turn the Jump-Starter power switch to ON.
- Turn ON the vehicle ignition and crank the engine in 5-6 second bursts until the engine starts.
- Once the engine starts, turn the Jump-Starter power switch back to the OFF position.
- Disconnect the negative (-) engine or chassis clamp first, then disconnect the positive (+) battery clamp.

Will it run a sump pump during a power outage?
The 120VAC outlet on this jump starter is rated at 200 watts maximum output. It will run a sump pump for approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the maximum wattage draw, the state of battery charge on the jump starter, and the age/number of charge cycles on the internal battery.
How can you charge this with a solar panel?
To charge with solar panels, connect the solar panel to a charge controller, and then connect the charge controller to an inverter. Plug the jump box into the inverter. Note that solar panels are DC, and the jump box requires AC to charge. Solar panels require charge controllers to keep 12V batteries from overcharging. Inverters convert 12V DC to 120V AC (20 amp), which is then used to charge the jump box.
