To install batteries:

  1. Make sure your radio is off.
  2. Remove the battery cover.
  3. Insert 3 AAA ALKALINE batteries according to the polarity symbols inside the battery compartment.
  4. Replace the battery cover.

Caution: To avoid damage to the unit, do not mix old and new batteries.

Belt Clip

To attach the belt clip: Slide the belt clip until it snaps into place.

To remove the belt clip: Press and hold the belt clip locker, slide the belt clip at the same time until released.

Low Battery Alert

If the battery level becomes low, the battery indicator icon will appear on the LCD and begin flashing. When the batteries are low, the unit will enter Battery Low Mode, disabling transmit. Replace the batteries immediately to continue using the radio.

Operation

Power On/Off

Press and hold the power button [power-symbol] to turn the Radio ON. A channel number will appear on the display. Press and hold the power button [power-symbol] to turn the Radio OFF.

Adjusting Key Beeps

Your radio emits a beep each time a key is pressed (except for the PTT button and the monitor key). To turn OFF key beeps: Press and hold the monitor key [monitor-symbol] while turning the Radio ON. To turn ON key beeps: Turn the Radio OFF and then ON again. Note: The key beeps cannot permanently be disabled.

Selecting Channel

To Transmit and Receive

The UH036-2 uses 40 UHF-CB Channels. The RF transmit power is 500 mW.

  1. Before you transmit, listen for activity on the selected channel.
  2. When the channel is clear, press and hold the PTT button [PTT-button] to transmit. 'TX' appears on the LCD.

Hold the radio with the microphone approximately 5 cm in front of your mouth, with the antenna at approximately a 45° angle away from your head. Speak in a clear, normal conversational voice.

When you have finished speaking, release the PTT button. 'TX' will disappear on the LCD. Note: While receiving, the 'RX' icon is displayed.

Automatic Squelch Feature

The UH036-2 is equipped with an Automatic Squelch system that shuts off weak transmissions and unwanted noise.

Monitor

This feature enables users to listen for weak signals on the current channel at the press of a button.

To use monitor:

To Operate in Duplex Mode

Example: CH1 is being used in your area for repeater use. Press the Duplex key [dup] momentarily. The duplex icon [duplex-icon] appears. Press the Duplex key [dup] again to deactivate duplex operation. The UH036-2 will return to normal operation.

Scanning

The scan function scans all channels and stops at an active channel. When the signal stops, the UH036-2 waits 2 seconds (Drop Out Delay) before scanning resumes.

To initiate scanning:

  1. Assuming the unit is on CH1 when switched on.
  2. Press and hold Channel Up [A] or Channel Down [∇] for 3 seconds, and scanning starts.
  3. Press Channel Up [A] or Channel Down [∇] or PTT to cancel scanning.

Note: If Channel Up [A] or Channel Down [∇] is pressed while the unit is paused on a channel, scanning will be resumed.

Drop-Out Delay

While scanning, the UH036-2 stops at a busy channel and receives a transmission. When the received signal is over, the unit will wait for 2 seconds for the return of the signal; otherwise, the radio resumes scanning.

Power Save

Your UH036-2 has a unique circuit designed to dramatically extend the life of the batteries. If there is no transmission or incoming call within 2 seconds, your Radio switches to the Power Save mode. The Radio is still able to receive transmissions in this mode.
