Introduction
This document is intended to introduce you to the Dell Latitude 7400 device that you have checked out from the San José Public Library. It provides descriptions and details about the device's features and components.
The device is property of the City of San Jose, with an asset number and warranty expiration date noted on its label.
Device Overview
Front View
The front view of the laptop shows the display panel and components located above it.
Note on Camera: The SafeView switch is used to disable the camera. Gently move the switch to the left for full privacy. Gently move the switch to the right to allow the video camera to enable.
- 1. Microphone array: Captures audio input.
- 2. SafeView switch: A physical slider to cover or uncover the camera lens for privacy.
- 3. Camera: Integrated webcam for video capture.
- 4. Camera status LED: Indicates when the camera is active.
- 5. Microphone: Additional microphone for audio input.
- 6. Display panel: The screen of the laptop.
- 7. Battery status LED: Indicates power and battery charge status.
Note on Battery Status LED:
- SOLID WHITE: Power adapter is connected, and the battery has more than 5% charge.
- AMBER: Computer is running on battery, and the battery has less than 5% charge.
- OFF: Can indicate one of three states: A) Power adapter is connected and the battery is fully charged; B) Computer is running on battery with more than 5% charge; or C) The computer is in sleep state, hibernation, or turned off.
Palmrest View
The palmrest area includes the keyboard, touchpad, and power button.
Note on Powering On/Off:
- To power up the device, gently press and hold the power button located on the top right corner of the base.
- Once the screen turns on, click the left button on the trackpad to access the Desktop screen.
- To turn off the device, gently press and hold the power button again.
- 1. Power button: Located on the top right corner of the base. May include an optional fingerprint reader (no LED).
- 2. Keyboard: Standard QWERTY keyboard layout.
- 3. Touchpad: The area below the keyboard for cursor control.

Left View
The left side of the laptop features several ports for connectivity.
- 1. Power adapter port: Connection for the AC power adapter.
- 2. USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 2 port (Thunderbolt): A versatile port for data transfer, display output, and power delivery.
- 3. HDMI 1.4a port: For connecting to external displays.
- 4. USB Type-A 3.1 Gen 1 port: Standard USB port for peripherals.
- 5. Smart card slot: For inserting smart cards.

Right View
The right side of the laptop also includes various ports and slots.
- 1. Universal audio port: Supports headset and microphone input, and line-in.
- 2. micro-SD 4.0 memory card reader: For reading micro SD cards.
- 3. SIM card slot: For cellular connectivity (if supported).
- 4. USB Type-A 3.1 Gen 1 ports (PowerShare capable): Standard USB ports that can also charge connected devices even when the laptop is off.
- 5. Noble wedge lock slot: For securing the laptop with a physical lock.

Bottom View
The bottom of the laptop houses ventilation and other components.
- 1. Thermal vent: Allows for airflow to cool the internal components.
- 2. Service tag label: Contains identification information for the device.
- 3. Speakers: Integrated audio output.
Important Notes:
- Do not block the thermal vent. Blocking it can lead to overheating.
- Do not remove any stickers or tags the device has on it.
How to Access Digital Literacy Curriculum
This section guides you on how to access the Digital Literacy Curriculum resources available on the device.
The desktop on the device contains applications and folders to help you work and learn. The "Digital Literacy Curriculum" folder is located on the desktop.
The "Digital Literacy Curriculum" is available in multiple languages: English, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
The "Digital Literacy Curriculum" folder contains presentations that cover topics such as safe internet browsing and how to use Microsoft Word.
Steps to Access:
- Click on the "Digital Literacy Curriculum" folder located on the desktop of the device.
- Select the language you would like to access: Spanish, English, or Vietnamese.
- A PDF presentation will open, providing the curriculum content for your review.
