Remote Control Overview

This section describes the controls and functions of the remote control when it is set in AMP mode. Ensure AMP mode is selected before beginning operation. Refer to "REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES" on page 43 to operate other components with this remote control.

Key Controls and Functions

• 1 Infrared emitter: Outputs infrared control signals. Aim this emitter at the component you want to operate.
• 2 Input selector buttons: Select the input source and change the control area. These buttons include TV, AV, CD, MD/CD-R, TUNER, DVD, D-TV/CBL, VCR, V-AUX.
• 3 Sound field program/Numeric buttons: Use to select sound field programs or input numbers (0-9, +10).
• 4 LEVEL: Selects the effect speaker channel to adjust.
• 5 Cursor buttons: Use the directional buttons (Up, Down, Left, Right) and SELECT to navigate menus and adjust parameters.
• 6 TEST: Outputs the test tone to adjust the speaker levels.
• 7 STANDBY: Sets the unit in standby mode.
• 8 SYSTEM POWER: Turns the unit on or off.
• 9 SLEEP: Sets the sleep timer.
• 0 6CH INPUT: Selects the audio source connected to the 6CH INPUT jacks.
• q CODE SET: Used to set up manufacturer codes (see page 44).
• w AMP: Switches control from a previously selected component to this unit.
• e VOLUME +/-: Increases or decreases the volume level.
• r MUTE: Mutes the sound. Press again to restore the audio output to the previous volume level.
• t 6.1/5.1: Switches on or off the Dolby Digital + Matrix 6.1 or DTS + Matrix 6.1 decoder.
• y STEREO: Switches between normal stereo and DSP effect reproduction. When STEREO is selected, the unit mixes down all Dolby Digital and DTS signals (except the LFE channel) to the front left and right speakers.
• u NIGHT: Sets the unit in night listening mode.
• i SET MENU: Selects the set menu mode.

Remote Control Diagram Description

The remote control features a comprehensive layout of buttons. At the top are power controls (SYSTEM POWER, POWER, STANDBY POWER). Below these are input selector buttons arranged in rows (TV, AV, CD, MD/CD-R, TUNER, DVD, D-TV/CBL, VCR, V-AUX). The central section includes navigation (Cursor buttons, SELECT, SET MENU), volume controls (VOLUME +/-, MUTE), audio mode selectors (6.1/5.1, STEREO, NIGHT), and function buttons (CODE SET, AMP, TEST, LEVEL, TITLE, RETURN, DISPLAY, PRESET/CH). Numeric buttons (0-9, +10) are also present, along with sound field program buttons (HALL, JAZZ, ROCK, MUSIC, etc.).

Using the Remote Control

The remote control transmits a directional infrared beam. Ensure the infrared emitter is aimed directly at the remote control sensor on the main unit during operation.

Infrared Signal Range: The remote operates effectively within a range of approximately 6 meters (20 feet) and a viewing angle of 30 degrees on either side of the central axis.

Handling the Remote Control

• Do not spill water or other liquids on the remote control.
• Do not drop the remote control.
• Avoid storing or leaving the remote control in conditions of:
  • High humidity (e.g., near a bath)
  • High temperature (e.g., near a heater or stove)
  • Extremely low temperature
  • Dusty places

Remote Control Features

The Yamaha RAV300 remote control can operate the main unit (AV receiver) and other A/V components from Yamaha and other manufacturers. To control other components, manufacturer codes must be set up.

Controlling This Unit (AMP Mode)

When the remote is set to AMP mode, the shaded areas on the remote control diagram are used to operate the main unit. Press the AMP button to select AMP mode.

Certain buttons function in any mode, regardless of the selected component. These include SYSTEM POWER, STANDBY, SLEEP, 6CH INPUT, VOLUME +/-, and MUTE.

Controlling Other Components

The shaded areas on the remote control can also be used to control other components. The function of each button changes based on the selected component. Use the input selector buttons (e.g., TV, DVD, CD) to select the component you wish to control. The remote automatically switches to the appropriate control mode for that component.

You can control up to 7 different components by setting appropriate manufacturer codes. Refer to page 44 for details on setting these codes.

Setting Manufacturer Codes

To control other components, you need to set the appropriate manufacturer codes. Codes can be set for each input area.

Default Manufacturer Codes

The table below shows default component categories and their corresponding manufacturer codes:

*1 You can control this unit and other Yamaha tuners only.

*2 You can only set TV manufacturer codes for the D-TV/CBL buttons.

Procedure to Set Codes

1. Press and hold the CODE SET button.
2. While holding CODE SET, press an input selector button to choose the component you want to set up (e.g., DVD, TV).
3. With CODE SET still depressed, use the numeric buttons to enter the 3-digit manufacturer code for your component.

Notes:

• You must press and hold CODE SET throughout this procedure.
• Refer to the "LIST OF MANUFACTURER'S CODES" section (pages 7-8) for codes.
• To reset a code, enter the factory-set code shown in the table above for that component.
• If your component manufacturer has multiple codes, try each one until you find the correct one.
• Only one manufacturer code can be assigned to each input selector button.

Button Functions for Other Components

Once manufacturer codes are set, the remote can control other components. Note that some buttons may not function identically across all components. Use the input selector buttons to ensure the correct component is being controlled.

*1 This button functions only when the original remote control of the component has a POWER button.

*2 These buttons can operate your TV without switching the input if the manufacturer code is set in D-TV/CBL.

*3 These buttons can operate your VCR without switching the input to VCR if the manufacturer code is set in VCR.

The following tables provide manufacturer codes for various audio and video components. These codes are used when setting up the remote control to operate components other than the main Yamaha unit.
