General Information
This document provides installation and operating instructions for Westfalia detachable tow bars. It is crucial to follow these instructions carefully to ensure safe and correct usage. The German text is considered binding in case of any discrepancies.
Important Notes:
- National guidelines regarding installation and approval must be observed.
- Any modifications or alterations to the tow bar are prohibited and will void the operating license.
- Ensure the vehicle's underbody protection or insulating compound is removed from the contact surfaces where the tow bar will be mounted.
- The tow bar is designed for towing trailers and carrying loads. Any other use is prohibited.
- Vehicles equipped with parking assistance systems may experience malfunctions due to the tow bar components being within the sensor's detection range. Adjust the detection range or deactivate the system if necessary.
- The tow bar is a safety-critical component and must only be installed by qualified professionals. Improper installation can lead to serious accidents.

Installation Procedure
The installation involves several steps, including:
- Removing the plug from the receiver.
- Ensuring the ball bar is in the unlocked position (indicated by a gap between the handwheel and ball bar, and specific color markings). If not, pre-tension the mechanism.
- Inserting the ball bar into the receiver and pushing it upwards until it locks automatically.
- Closing the lock and removing the key.
Torque Specifications:
- M10x30 bolts: 55 Nm
- M12x1.5x40 bolts: 95 Nm
Operation and Maintenance
Before each journey:
- Check that the green markings align.
- Ensure the handwheel is flush against the ball bar (no gap).
- Verify the lock is closed, the key is withdrawn, and the handwheel cannot be pulled out.
- Confirm the ball bar is securely inserted into the receiver by shaking it.
If any of these checks fail, repeat the installation. Do not use the tow bar if any requirement is not met.
Maintenance:
- Keep the ball bar and receiver clean.
- Lubricate the mechanism regularly, using graphite for the lock.
- Use resin-free grease or oil for bearing points, friction surfaces, and balls.
- When cleaning the vehicle with a high-pressure washer, remove the ball bar and insert the plug. Do not clean the ball bar with a steam cleaner.
Important:
- Always remove the ball bar and insert the plug when not in use, especially if it obstructs the license plate or lights.
- The detachable ball bar comes with two keys. Note the key number for future orders.
