Transformative Innovation: Defining and Understanding a New Phenomenon within Organizations

This doctoral thesis, presented by Costanza Baldrighi, explores the concept of Transformative Innovation (TI). It addresses the growing need for organizations to adapt to complex global challenges, integrating digital advancements, sustainability goals, and business model evolution.

The research identifies a gap in current literature regarding a comprehensive definition for these multifaceted organizational changes. It proposes TI as a unifying framework, drawing insights from policy, economics, and management studies.

Thesis Contributions

The thesis offers a conceptual contribution by defining TI and its characteristics, supported by empirical studies. It provides a framework for understanding how organizations can leverage innovation to navigate systemic changes and achieve both societal and economic objectives.

Authored by Costanza Baldrighi under the supervision of Prof. Stefano Denicolai, this work is a product of the Doctoral Program in Applied Economics and Management at the University of Pavia & University of Bergamo.
