Installation Information
Memphis Audio recommends professional installation by an authorized dealer to prevent product damage and warranty voidance. Amplifiers are typically mounted in the hatch/trunk area or behind seats of vehicles, requiring adequate ventilation. Ensure mounting locations are free of electrical, hydraulic, fuel, or fluid lines. Always check speaker load impedance with a multi-meter before connecting the amplifier; loads lower than the rated impedance can cause damage not covered under warranty.
Warning: For safety, carefully inspect mounting locations. Ensure proper ventilation. Avoid mounting with fins facing down. Secure using provided screws.
If you are uncertain about installation, consult your local authorized Memphis Audio Dealer. ?
Power Supply Connection
Use conventional stranded copper wire with proper size terminals for all connections. Poorly made connections or inadequate wire size can lead to excessive heat and equipment failure.
- 12 Volt + Connection: Connect directly to the positive battery post using the correct wire size and fuse. The fuse should be installed within 18 inches of the battery to protect the vehicle in case of a dead short.
- Ground Connection: Connect directly to the vehicle chassis as close to the amplifier as possible. Use the same wire size as the 12V+ connection. Ensure the connection surface is free of dirt, grease, paint, and coatings.
- Remote Turn On: Connect to the source unit's remote turn-on lead or power antenna output wire. Ensure it maintains power when the radio is selected.
Amp Kit Recommendations:
- MJP750.1: 4GKIT
- MJP800.4: 4GKIT
- MJP1000.1: 4GKIT
- MJP1500.1: 4GKIT
- MJP3000.1: OGKIT
Diagram Description: The power supply connection diagram illustrates connecting the amplifier's GND, REM, and 12V terminals to the vehicle's chassis ground, remote turn-on source, and battery positive terminal respectively. A fuse holder is shown near the battery. Speaker outputs connect to speakers.
Controls and Functions
The MOJO PRO amplifiers feature various controls for tuning audio output:
Mono Amplifiers (MJP3000.1, MJP1500.1, MJP1000.1, MJP750.1)
- Input: RCA inputs for audio signal.
- Gain: Adjusts the signal level required to drive the amplifier to full output. It is not a volume control. Set to minimum for optimal performance.
- Sub Sonic Filter: Variable from 10Hz-50Hz, removes unwanted low frequencies, useful for ported enclosures.
- Bass Boost: Variable from 0-12dB, enhances bass frequencies. Use with discretion as it adds load.
- Remote: Adjusts the output level of the amplifier.
- LPF (Low Pass Filter): Adjustable from 50Hz to 250Hz (12dB/octave slope), removes high frequencies.
- Phase: Inverts the audio signal phase (0° or 180°).
Full Range Amplifier (MJP800.4)
- Input: RCA inputs for audio signal.
- Gain: Adjusts signal level.
- X-Over (Crossover): Selectable High Pass Filter (HPF), Low Pass Filter (LPF), or Full Range. Frequencies adjustable from 50Hz to 250Hz.
- HPF: High Pass Filter, removes low frequencies to protect smaller speakers.
- LPF: Low Pass Filter, removes high frequencies.
- 4CH/2CH Switch: Configures the amplifier for 4-channel or 2-channel operation.
Caution: Mono amplifiers are 1 ohm stable. Impedance loads smaller than 1 ohm will damage the amplifier, voiding the warranty.
Low Level Output: Used to feed audio signals to additional amplifiers.
Wiring Diagrams
The document includes detailed diagrams for various connection scenarios:
- Dual Amplifiers Strapped Input/Output Connections: Illustrates how to connect multiple mono amplifiers together for increased power output, including wired remote connections.
- Full Range Amplifier Input Connection: Shows how to connect audio sources to the MJP800.4 amplifier.
- Full Range Amplifier Speaker Wiring: Depicts standard stereo and bridged speaker wiring configurations for the MJP800.4.
- Mono Amplifiers Subwoofer Connection: Provides diagrams for connecting subwoofers to mono amplifiers, showing different impedance loads (2Ω-8Ω, 1Ω-8Ω).
Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues and their solutions:
- No Output: Check wiring, remote turn-on voltage, signal source, and ensure the amplifier is not overheating due to low impedance.
- Audio Cycles On/Off: Verify speaker integrity and ensure proper amplifier ventilation.
- Distorted Output: Check input sensitivity, speaker impedance load, and ensure speaker wires are correctly connected and not shorted.
- Poor Bass Response: Verify speaker polarity and check crossover settings.
- Battery Fuse Blowing: Check for short circuits in power wires or incorrect power connections. Ensure the fuse size is appropriate.
- Amplifier Fuse Blowing: Check speaker impedance load and ensure it meets amplifier requirements. Verify power and ground connections. Replace fuse with the recommended size.
Detailed tables are provided for specific problems like "No Output," "Distorted Output," "Poor Bass Response," "Battery Fuse Blowing," and "Amplifier Fuse Blowing," listing possible causes and solutions.
