Setup & Preparation

Assembling the Saw

Release Cutting Head From Transport Position: Ensure the saw is switched off and disconnected from the power supply. Press the cutting head down gently. Pull the head locking pin out; the cutting head will now be free to move.

Fitting the Dust Bag

  1. Squeeze the clamp at the end of the dust bag.
  2. Slide the end of the dust bag over the dust extraction port and release the clamp.

Adjusting the Mitre Saw

Mitre Angle Adjustment

  1. Loosen the mitre table lock knob by rotating anti-clockwise.
  2. Rotate the mitre table to the desired angle using the mitre angle scale. The table features click stops at 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 30°, and 45° for quick setting.
  3. Secure the desired table angle by turning the mitre table locking knob clockwise. ⚠️ Ensure the mitre lock knob is tight before making a cut. Failure to do so may result in the rotating table moving during operation and cause serious injury.

Bevel Angle Adjustment

  1. Loosen the bevel lock knob by rotating anti-clockwise.
  2. Tilt the cutting head to the desired bevel angle using the bevel angle scale.
  3. Secure the cutting head by tightening the bevel lock knob. ⚠️ Ensure the bevel lock knob is tight before making a cut. Failure to do so may result in the cutting head moving during operation and cause serious injury.

Rear Support Bar

The rear support bar provides additional stability for the mitre saw base. Loosen the phillips head screws on the base, insert the rear support bar through the 2 holes at the rear of the base, and tighten the screws to secure it.

Side Support Bars

When working with long workpieces, the side support bars provide additional support. Insert the side support bars into the 2 holes on either side of the base (ensure they are fully inserted) and secure them by rotating the support bar lock knobs clockwise.

Bench Mounting

The base of the Mitre Saw has four bench mounting holes that can be used to mount it to a workbench or mitre saw stand.

Straight and Angle Cutting

Straight Cut: Made by cutting the grain of the workpiece at 90° with the mitre scale set to 0°. Max. cutting capacity: 120x60mm wood.

Mitre Cut: Made with the mitre scale set at an angle other than 0°. Max. cutting capacity: 80x60mm wood.

Bevel Cut: Involves using a bevel angle other than 0°, tilting the saw head. Max. cutting capacity: 120x35mm wood.

Compound Mitre Cut: Uses both a mitre angle and a bevel angle. Max. cutting capacity: 80x35mm wood.

? Note: To obtain good cuts when performing bevel or compound cuts, the workpiece should be clamped. ⚠️ For all types of cuts, ensure the saw is locked into position.

Operation

Turning On and Off

  1. To turn the mitre saw on, depress the on/off switch. ? Note: Before performing a cut, ensure the blade is at full speed. Failure to do this may cause the blade to become blunt and lock-up.
  2. To turn the mitre saw off, release the on/off switch. ? Note: When the cut is complete, allow the blade to stop rotating before raising the cutting head to prevent personal injury.

Workpiece

Place the workpiece flat on the rotating mitre table with one edge securely against the rear fence. If the workpiece is warped, ensure the convex side is against the rear fence. When cutting long pieces of timber, support the opposite end with the material support bars.

Making a Cut

  1. Ensure the bench or stand and mitre saw are stable, and the workpiece is pushed against the rear fence.
  2. Set the mitre and bevel angle for the desired cut.
  3. Press the on/off switch and allow the saw to reach maximum speed.
  4. Lower the cutting head and perform a smooth cut.
  5. Once the cut is made, release the on/off switch. Raise the cutting head only after the blade has stopped.

Maintenance

⚙️ Ensure the saw is switched off and disconnected from the power supply before performing any maintenance.

Changing the Blade

⚠️ Never try to use a blade larger than the stated capacity or too thick for the spindle. Ensure any required spacers and spindle rings suit the spindle and blade.

  1. Ensure the cutting head is raised. If the head locking pin is locked, pull it and gently raise the head.
  2. Lift and hold the retractable safety guard up to expose the blade bolt.
  3. Place a hex key on the blade bolt and loosen by turning clockwise while holding the spindle lock.
  4. Remove the blade bolt with the outer blade washer.
  5. Remove the blade from the spindle.
  6. Fit and fasten the new blade in the reverse order.
  7. Check that the blade guard operates correctly and covers the blade as the saw arm is lowered. ⚠️ To ensure correct blade rotation, install the blade with teeth pointing downwards. Ensure the arrow direction on the blade corresponds with the arrow on the upper blade guard.

Carbon Brushes

When carbon brushes wear out, the saw may spark or stop. Discontinue use and replace them. They are a wearing component and not covered by warranty. Continuing use may cause permanent damage. Take the saw to a qualified repairer for replacement. Always replace both at the same time. Ozito is not responsible for damage from unauthorized repairs.

Sparking Visible Through Housing Air Vents

A small amount of sparking visible through housing vents is normal and does not indicate a problem.

Transportation

The head locking pin holds the cutting head down for transport or storage. Press the cutting head down, then push the head locking pin in.

Emptying the Dust Bag

  1. Remove the dust bag by squeezing the clamp.
  2. Empty the dust bag and refit it by squeezing the clamp and placing it over the dust port.

Electrical Safety

⚡ When using mains-powered tools, follow basic safety precautions to reduce risk of fire, electric shock, personal injury, and material damage. Read the manual carefully and know how to switch off in an emergency. The motor is designed for 230V and 240V only. Check power supply matches the rating plate. This tool is double insulated; no earth wire is required. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a qualified person. Double insulation adds protection but does not replace normal safety precautions. Use an approved extension lead suitable for the tool's power input; inspect for damage and unwind completely if on a reel. Use an RCD-protected supply in damp locations.

If the table insert is damaged, have it replaced. Keep the work area clear of rags, cord, and string. Avoid cutting nails; inspect workpieces and remove them. Support work properly. Do not remove cut-offs while the machine is running and the head is not in the rest position. Do not attempt to free a jammed blade before switching off. Do not slow or stop a blade with wood; let it stop naturally. If interrupted, complete the process and switch off before looking up. Periodically check all fixings. Do not store items above the machine. Hold the saw on insulated parts. Never saw near combustible liquids or gases. Note the direction of motor and blade rotation. Do not lock the movable guard open; ensure it functions correctly. Connect to a dust collection device and ensure it operates properly. Understand dust exposure factors and use local extraction. Always wear a dust mask. Wear gloves when handling blades and rough materials. Carry saw blades in a holder. Select blades for the material being cut. Use correctly sharpened blades and observe maximum speed. Take extra care when trenching. The mitre saw can be carried by the handle only once it has been disconnected from power and locked down. Ensure the arm is secure when bevelling. Keep the floor area level and clear. Ensure you are trained. Do not remove cut-offs until the head is upright, the guard covers the blade, and the blade has stopped. Support long pieces adequately.
