Installation Guidelines: DOs and DON'Ts
DOs:
- Diagram shows a 3-piece gate arm with the traffic light positioned centrally between the upper and lower arm sections, indicating minimal clearance.
DON'Ts:
- Diagram shows a raised gate arm obscuring the traffic light, with text stating 'Raised arm should NOT block light.'
- Diagram shows a raised gate arm positioned to potentially strike the traffic light, with text stating 'Raised arm MUST NOT hit light.'
Different Model Installations
The following describes mounting configurations for various DoorKing barrier gate models:
- 1601-380 1/2 HP: Shows a 3-piece arm configuration.
- 1602-090 1 HP: Shows a single arm configuration.
- 1602-590 1HP / 1625 Wedge Barrier: Shows a single arm configuration with a "Dimple" for installation.
- 1603-380 1/2 HP (Auto spikes "Factory Arm Setup"): Shows a single arm configuration.
- 1620 Lane Barrier: Shows a single arm configuration.
Note: Diagrams illustrate specific arm positions and mounting points relative to the operator housing.
Mounting Power Supply
12.5 Amps:
For the 1602 3-piece octagon arm with lighted reversing edge. The power supply is mounted to the side of the electronic box. Requires drilling 0.213" holes at specific locations (1.3", 2.5", 1.75" measurements indicated) on the mounting plate.
8.5 Amps:
Similar mounting procedure for the 8.5 Amp power supply, also to the side of the electronic box.
IMPORTANT: Power supply MUST be wired BEFORE mounting it.
Mount Traffic Light to Barrier Models
"Dimple" Installation (1601, 1602 or 1625 Wedge Barrier Models)
Position: Post on LEFT side of bracket.
Procedure:
- The "Dimple" is located 3" down and 2" to the LEFT of the bottom carriage bolt. This serves as a guide for starting the 7/8" drill bit hole.
- Loosen 2 existing 12" carriage bolts and slide in the bracket.
- Drill a 7/8" hole where the "Dimple" is located on the operator.
- Install the 3/4" conduit nipple.
- The elbow should be centered on the hole after inserting the conduit nipple and running the cable through it.
- TIP: Ensure all metal shavings from drilling do not enter electronic components, as this could cause operator malfunction.
- Route cable through conduit nipple into operator.
"Knockout" Installation (1603 or 1620 Lane Barrier Models)
Position: Post on RIGHT side of bracket.
Procedure:
- Loosen 2 existing 12" carriage bolts and slide in the bracket.
- Remove the "Knockout" from the operator housing.
- Install the 3/4" conduit nipple into the removed knockout opening.
- The elbow should be centered on the conduit nipple.
- Route cable through conduit nipple into operator.
Wire LED Traffic Light to Operator

Wiring Diagram Description:
- Circuit Board (1601-010): Features terminals for RED, GREEN, and Common connections for the traffic light. Also includes terminals for power input (Neutral and Hot).
- LED Lights Terminal: Connects to the traffic light cable.
- Traffic Light Cable: Connects the traffic light assembly to the operator. Typically, Black wire goes to V+ Power Supply, White to Neutral, and Red/Brown to Hot.
- Power Supply (8.5 or 12.5 Amp): Connects to Line (L), Neutral (N), and Ground terminals.
- Wires are labeled to indicate the terminals they connect to.
Keep wires clear of all moving parts.
