WORX WG521 12A Electric Blower User Manual and Safety Guide
Product Safety
Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construction activities contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Examples include lead from lead-based paints; crystalline silica from bricks, cement, and masonry products; and arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber. Exposure risk varies by frequency of work. To reduce exposure, work in a well-ventilated area and use approved safety equipment, such as dust masks designed for microscopic particles.
⚠ WARNING:
This product can expose you to chemicals including lead and Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information, visit www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
Important Safety Instructions
When using electric gardening appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Read all instructions before using this appliance.
For All Appliances
- ⚠ Avoid Dangerous Environments: Do not use appliances in damp or wet locations. Do not use in rain.
- Keep Children Away: All visitors should be kept at a distance from the work area.
- Dress Properly: Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry, as they can be caught in moving parts. Rubber gloves, substantial footwear, and protective hair covering are recommended for outdoor work.
- Use Safety Glasses: Always use face or dust mask if operation is dusty. 👓
- Use Right Appliance: Do not use the appliance for any job except that for which it is intended.
- Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection should be provided on the circuit(s) or outlet(s) used for the gardening appliance. GFCI-protected receptacles are available.
- Warning: To reduce the risk of electric shock, use only with an extension cord intended for outdoor use, such as a cord type SW-A, SOW-A, STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A, SJTW-A, or SJTOW-A.
- Extension Cord: Ensure your extension cord is in good condition and heavy enough for the product's current draw. An undersized cord can cause voltage drop, loss of power, and overheating. Refer to Table 1 for correct gauge based on cord length and ampere rating. If in doubt, use a heavier gauge cord. To prevent disconnection: tie a knot as shown in Figure 1, or use plug-receptacle retaining straps/connectors.
- Avoid Unintentional Starting: Do not carry a plugged-in appliance with your finger on the switch. Ensure the switch is OFF when plugging in.
- Don't Abuse Cord: Never carry the appliance by the cord, yank it to disconnect, or pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
- Don't Force Appliance: It will perform better and safer at its designed rate.
- Don't Overreach: Maintain proper footing and balance.
- Stay Alert: Pay attention to your work, use common sense, and do not operate when tired.
- Disconnect Appliance: Disconnect from the power supply when not in use, before servicing, or when changing accessories.
- Store Idle Appliances Indoors: Store appliances in a dry, locked-up place out of children's reach.
- Maintain Appliance With Care: Keep cutting edges sharp and clean. Follow lubrication and accessory change instructions. Inspect appliance and extension cords periodically; repair or replace if damaged. Keep handles dry and clean.
- Check Damaged Parts: Before further use, carefully check any damaged guard or part to ensure proper function. Check for alignment, binding, breakage, and mounting. Damaged parts should be repaired or replaced by an authorized service center.
Additional Safety Rules for Extension Cord
⚠ Warning: To reduce the risk of personal injury due to loose electrical connections between the appliance plug and extension cord, firmly attach the appliance plug to the extension cord. Periodically check the connection. Do not use an extension cord with a loose connection, as it may result in overheating, fire, and burns. To reduce the risk of disconnection during operation, secure the extension cord to the appliance plug as shown or described.
Servicing of Double-Insulated Appliances
A double-insulated appliance is marked with "DOUBLE INSULATION" or the double insulation symbol (a square within a square). Two systems of insulation are provided instead of grounding. No grounding means is provided, nor should it be added. Servicing requires extreme care and knowledge of the system, performed only by qualified personnel. Replacement parts must be identical to the originals.
Symbols
To reduce the risk of injury, the user must read the instruction manual. 📄
