Princeton Tec Axis Rechargeable LED Headlamp
Operating and Maintenance Instructions
ENGLISH: Battery Charging
Supplied with headlamp: Self-contained lithium rechargeable battery, micro-USB charging cable.
Princeton Tec suggests using a charger with an output of 5V, 1A. This charger will fully charge the battery pack in 3 to 4 hours. Slower charging will be achieved with a charger rated for lower amperage. Some computer USB ports may not have sufficient output to charge this or any USB rechargeable product. Under normal usage, the supplied lithium ion battery pack will last for approximately 1,000 charge / discharge cycles.
Red battery charge level LEDs indicate battery state. Red LEDs flash when charging is in progress. Charging has completed when both LEDs are illuminated. Charge state will be indicated upon lockout, via 1, 2, 3 or 4 LED flashes, corresponding to approximately 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%.
Princeton Tec cares about the environment and recommends recycling batteries. For more information about battery recycling, please visit batteryrecycling.com.
⚠️ WARNING! Do not disassemble; no user serviceable parts.
General Care and Warnings
- Properly charge the battery to maximize its lifespan. Lithium ion batteries do not suffer from a "memory effect," and for battery longevity it is preferable to charge more frequently if possible, rather than to fully deplete the battery's charge.
- To avoid damaging your lighting system, use only chargers that meet the approved specifications.
- The Axis Rechargeable is not submersible. Submerging in water will damage the lighting system and void the warranty.
- To keep your lighting system looking new, use a mild soap and water solution with a rag or sponge to periodically wipe off dirt.
Switch Operation – See Figure 1
A single press turns on Red Ultrabright mode at 50% output. A double tap turns on White Spot Maxbright mode at 60% output. A press and hold turns on White Flood Maxbright mode at 25% output. In any mode, the dial is used for dimming.
Beginning in Red mode, any dial turn will alter the red output. Beginning in White Flood mode and increasing output, it is possible to continue turning the dial to activate Spot mode in addition to Flood mode; this will achieve maximum output in what is called Dual Beam mode. Beginning in Spot mode, dimming action will be restricted to spot mode only.
A single press occurring more than two seconds after the previous button press will turn the light off.
The Axis is equipped with a battery lockout to prevent accidental activation. See Figure 1.
Figure 1: Switch Operation Modes
Switch Operation Descriptions:
- Press 1x: Red 50%
- Press 2x: White Spot 60%
- Press & Hold: White Flood 25%
- Press 1x from On: Off
- Press 5 seconds (from Off): Lock-Out
- Press 5 seconds (from Lock): Unlock
Mode Adjustments:

- Flood Mode: Brightens into dual beam mode.
[Diagram Description for Figure 1: The diagram shows a headlamp with different button presses and dial actions. It illustrates how to activate Red 50%, White Spot 60%, White Flood 25%, turn the light off, and engage/disengage a lock-out mode. It also shows how turning a dial adjusts brightness for Red/Spot modes and how Flood mode can transition into a dual beam mode.]
4 MODES / DIMMABLE & BEAM DISTANCE
Mode | Burn Time | Beam Distance |
---|---|---|
DUAL BEAM HIGH | 2 H | 33 m |
DUAL BEAM LOW | 3 H | 31 m |
SPOT HIGH | 2 H | 26 m |
SPOT LOW | 17 H | 25 m |
FLOOD HIGH | 3 H | 27 m |
FLOOD LOW | 8 H | 25 m |
RED HIGH | 54 H | 12 m |
RED LOW | 32 H | 10 m |
The table above lists the primary modes, their specified burn times, and beam distances. Additional burn time and distance data points are present in the original document for various settings and conditions.
Princeton Tec calculates total burn time as the time it takes for the light source to produce a minimum of 0.25 lux at 2 meters. 0.25 lux is about the equivalent of a full moon on a clear night.
Figure 2: Battery Charging
[Diagram Description for Figure 2: The diagram shows three steps for charging the headlamp battery. Step 1 shows the battery being inserted into the charging cradle. Step 2 shows the battery connected to the charging cable. Step 3 shows the battery fully charged and ready for use.]
- Check the light for water contamination on the circuit board. The light will resume normal operation once the water is shaken or blown out and the light is left until completely dry. If the light has been contaminated with salt water, flush the unit with fresh water and dry as described above.
