Control and Function
Radio Overview
Antenna: Transmits and receives radio signals.
Headset Jack: For connecting an optional headset.
LED Light: Indicates status.
(Volume/Channel Up) Button: Increases volume or cycles through channels upwards.
(Call) Button: Transmits a call tone.
MON (Monitor) Button: Monitors the current channel for activity.
Speaker: Outputs audio.
Microphone: Captures your voice for transmission.
MENU/ (Menu/Power) Button: Accesses menus or turns the radio on/off.
SEL (Select/Lock) Button: Selects menu options or locks/unlocks the keypad.
(Volume/Channel Down) Button: Decreases volume or cycles through channels downwards.
PTT (Push-To-Talk) Button: Press to transmit, release to receive.
LED Torch Button: Activates the LED flashlight.
Micro USB Jack: For charging the device.
Display Indicators
- 1. Monitor:
- Indicates monitor mode is active.
- 2. Battery Level Meter:
- Shows remaining battery power.
- 3. Channel Indicator:
- Displays the current channel number.
- 4. Scan Indicator:
- Appears when the scan function is active.
- 5. Dual Watch Indicator:

- Indicates VOX (Voice Activated Transmission) is active.
Turning Your Radio On And Off
Press and hold the POWER ON/OFF button until a channel number appears and the radio beeps to turn it on. Press and hold the POWER ON/OFF button until the display goes blank to turn it off.
Monitor Function
To check for channel activity, press and hold the "Mon" button. If you hear static, the channel is clear for use.
The Battery Meter
The battery meter on the display indicates remaining battery power. When power is low, the Battery Low icon will blink, and an audible tone will sound twice before the radio shuts off. Replace or recharge batteries as needed.
Talking and Listening
Your radio operates on 22 channels. For group communication, all radios must be set to the same channel and interference eliminator code (CTCSS/DCS). Hold the radio 5 to 7 cm from your mouth. Press and hold the "PTT" button and speak into the microphone. The LED indicator light glows when transmitting. Release "PTT" to receive.
Volume Adjustment
Press the Up button to increase or the Down button to decrease the volume. Select volume level 1-8.
Channel Selection
Press the "MENU" button; the channel number will flash. Use the "UP" or "DOWN" button to change the channel. Press the "PTT" button to set the new channel.
Interference Eliminator Code (CTCSS/DCS)
Codes help minimize interference. Press the "MENU" button until the code number flashes. Use "UP" or "DOWN" to change the code. Press "PTT" to set the new code. You can specify a different code for each channel. To set a channel and code combination, press "MENU", use "UP"/"DOWN" to select the channel, press "MENU" again, use "UP"/"DOWN" to select a code, and press "PTT" to save and exit.
Time-out Timer
This feature prevents accidental continuous transmission and helps extend battery life. The radio will emit a warning tone after 3 minutes of continuous PTT press and stop transmitting.
Keypad Lock
The keypad lock disables the "MENU", "UP", and "DOWN" buttons, as well as the scan function. The "MON" button remains active. Press and hold the "LOCK" button for three seconds to lock or unlock the keypad. The lock icon will appear on the display when locked.
Scan Function
Scanning allows you to monitor channels and codes for transmissions. To start scanning, briefly press and release the "MON" button. The Scan Icon will display, and the radio will scroll through channels. When activity is detected, the radio stops scanning. Press "PTT" within 5 seconds to respond. The radio resumes scanning after 5 seconds of inactivity. To stop scanning, briefly press and release the "MON" button.
Scan Advance
If the scan stops on an unwanted channel, briefly press the "UP" or "DOWN" button to resume scanning.
Hands-Free Use (VOX)
VOX allows for hands-free transmission when using VOX accessories. Turn the radio off before placing accessories on your head or in your ear.
How To Use The VOX Feature
In VOX mode, your radio transmits automatically when you speak. You can set the VOX sensitivity level to match your voice volume and minimize background noise interference.
To turn VOX mode on or off:
- Press the Menu/Power button until the VOX icon flashes. The current On/Off setting is displayed.
- Press the "UP" and "DOWN" buttons to toggle VOX On or Off.
- Press the Menu/Power button to save the setting and proceed, or press "PTT" to save and return to Standby mode.
To set VOX sensitivity:
- Press the Menu/Power button until the VOX sensitivity icon flashes and the current level is displayed.
- Press the "Up" or "Down" button to change the setting.
- Press the Menu/Power button to save and proceed, or press "PTT" to save and return to Standby mode.
Call Tone
Press the "CALL" button to transmit your call tone, alerting others on the same channel and code that you are about to talk. Your radio has 10 call tones (model dependent).
To Set the Call Tone:
- With the radio on, press "MENU" until "C" appears.
- The current call tone setting will flash.
- Press "UP" or "DOWN" to change and hear call tones.
- Press "PTT" to set the new call tone.
Room Monitor
This feature enables your radio to detect voice/noises (based on sensitivity level) and transmit back to the listening radio without pressing PTT. The monitoring radio cannot receive transmissions in this mode. To turn Room Monitor On: Press Menu button until the Room monitor icon blinks. Press UP or DOWN button to the desired sensitivity level. Press the LOCK button to turn on room monitor. Press the Menu button to turn off room monitor. Note: If voice/noise continues for over 60 seconds, monitoring pauses for 5 seconds and then resumes.
Dual Watch Receiver [Dual Scan]
Dual Watch allows the radio to monitor activity on both the home channel and a selected dual scan channel. The dual scan channel and its code are selected via the menu. When Dual Watch is enabled, the "2 CH" icon is displayed. In Dual Watch, the radio checks both channels. If activity is detected on the dual scan channel, the display shows that channel. After receiving, it returns to the home channel display. Dual Watch operates similarly to normal scan but includes CTCSS/DCS code checking.
