ECSs Included in this Release
The following issues were fixed in Emergency Customer Shipments (ECSs) and are included in this release.
ECS Description | Issue ID |
---|---|
004-ECS This ECS changes the way that time is stored when it is retrieved from the operating system. Calls to get local time now pass in a structure that gets updated with the current time, which is returned to the caller. | NGVPL-3039 |
009-ECS This ECS resolves the issue of not being able to change tasks because ODRs are stuck. Put the device in Tilly mode and load a configuration to the device to clear the ODRs from memory. | NGVPL-3042 |
012-ECS Sockets were not properly closing due to extra data that was sent with the ODR confirmation byte to a device. This ECS clears from the TCP buffer the extra data that is sent with the ODR confirmation, before initiating the shutdown/close on the socket. | NGVPL-3091 |
Issues Resolved in this Release
The following issues were resolved in this release.
Issue Description | Issue ID |
---|---|
Limited Supervisor Audio Mode Supervisor audio is TTS mode only (SrxSupervisorAudioEnable=2). If the mode is configured for a mode other than TTS, the mode reverts to TTS only and a message is written to the log file. | NGVPL-3126 |
Device Hangs when Switching from VoiceCatalyst to VoiceClient The device may hang when rebooting on the change between VoiceCatalyst and VoiceClient, requiring a battery pull to recover the device. This issue may continue to occur, but it should occur less frequently. | NGVPL-1957 |
Snapshot Disabled During Reboot and Shutdown During a device reboot in a charger, a snapshot of the log file was often created and sent to VoiceConsole. This issue may continue to occur, but it should occur less frequently. | NGVPL-2780 |
Exception Thrown After Device Powered Down Due to Inactivity After a device powered down due to inactivity, an exception was thrown, rather than logging a message. This issue may continue to occur, but it should occur less frequently. | NGVPL-2148 |
Hungarian TTS Did Not Speak Properly Speech improvements were made to Hungarian TTS. | NGVPL-3011 |
"Missing Data" Displayed Instead of Dialog for Phonetic Substitutions VoiceConsole dialog display occasionally displayed "Missing Data" and not the dialog, for phonetic substitutions in prompts. This issue may continue to occur, but it should occur less frequently. | NGVPL-3006 |
Automatic Voice Load by Operator with Mixed Devices Automatic Voice Load by Operator using mixed devices is supported on VoiceConsole 5.2 and greater. An ECS must be installed to support this feature:
| VOCERT-4213 |

Out of the Box
You will need the VoiceCatalyst 4.1.3 DVD as it contains these items:
- A700x VOS file
- VoiceConsole 5.0 and 5.1 patches
- Talkman Startup Tool
- A700x USB driver
- Vocollect RapidStart Training Application
NOTE
Product documentation is now hosted online at https://help.honeywellaidc.com rather than being included on the DVD.
Upgrading VoiceConsole
VoiceConsole must be version 5.0 or greater:
- See Version Information for details on necessary VoiceConsole patches to support the A700x.
- The VoiceConsole 5.0 and 5.1 patches are required:
- to support licensing for the A700x series devices,
- to add the additional functionality required to support multiple default profiles (one per device type, i.e.: a default profile for the A700 and another for the A700x) in a site.
- The VoiceCatalyst 4.1.3 DVD contains the required patches for VoiceConsole.
- A text file is included with each patch containing installation instructions.
- Optional VoiceConsole 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2 patches are available to correct handling of time changes that do not occur at 2:00 AM (i.e.: the start of British Summer Time). Contact customer support for these patches.
An updated license file is needed to support the A700x.
- The updated license file should be provided from customer service when an order is placed for A700x devices. If the updated license file is not available, customer support can assist.
Serial Loading Configuration to an A700x
- Create a profile in VoiceConsole with appropriate network settings and the VOS file for the A700x included on the DVD.
- Insert a charged battery into the A700x. It is not necessary to turn the A700x on at this time.
- Use the Talkman Startup Tool to configure the new A700x. Details on using the tool are included later in this document.
- A standard off-the-shelf Micro-USB cable (not provided) is required to connect the A700x to a computer.
A700x USB Driver
- If the A700 USB driver is already installed, it can be used with the A700x.
- If no driver is currently installed and the PC is configured to search for drivers online, the driver will automatically install and the A700x will be ready to use.
- The driver can be installed from the VoiceCatalyst 4.1.3 DVD. Instructions for installing the driver are included on the DVD.
Customer Experience
- Use the Talkman Startup Tool to load profiles.
- VoiceConsole 5.0 and 5.1: This tool's functionality replaces the VoiceConsole 5.0 and 5.1 Load selected profile with cable option in VoiceConsole. The old functionality within VoiceConsole may still work, but the new tool is the mechanism moving forward. The Talkman Startup Tool must be accessed from outside VoiceConsole.
- Voice Console 5.2: Talkman Startup Tool is integrated and launches when Load selected profile with cable is chosen.
- Customers can use the same device configuration files on both A700 and A700x series devices.
- TouchConfig has the following limitations, as VoiceCatalyst 4.0.3 encrypts the config.vrg file:
- An A700x with VoiceCatalyst 4.0.3 can receive a config.vrg file from an A700x running an earlier version.
- An A700x running an earlier version of VoiceCatalyst cannot receive a config.vrg file from an A700x running VoiceCatalyst 4.0.3 or later.
- Incompatible protocols prevent an A700x with VoiceCatalyst 4.0.3 or greater from transferring the config.vrg file either to or from an A700.
- The SSID must be broadcast if using DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) channels in the 5 GHz RF band.
- Honeywell recommends creating a channel list when setting up the profile in VoiceConsole. Without a channel list, the radio scans all channels. With a channel list, the radio only scans the listed channels which improves performance, reduces interference, and reduces latency. This advice is applicable to all Talkman devices (A700x, A700, A500).
- If a log file location is specified outside of the default location, the permissions may not allow for the setting to be honored. If the specified location is unable to be created, logs will be written to the default location of /var/log/Honeywell/VocollectVoice.
- If the LED turns solid red during a profile load, remove and reinstall the battery and place the A700x back in the charger. This should allow the profile load to recover.
- The A700x series devices run with a newer version of Python which in some cases will require VAD updates. It is recommended that customers verify functionality of their VADs on A700x series devices prior to putting the devices into production.
- Client tasks that use FTP will require updates as the A700x does not support FTP.
- Not all Bluetooth peripherals are supported at this time. Please see the list of tested peripherals.
- Ensure Bluetooth peripherals have properly charged batteries. When a peripheral battery has a low charge, it is possible the peripheral may not stay connected. This advice is applicable to all Talkman devices (A700x, A700, A500).
- The user will not be able to modify the Bluetooth Discoverable property from VoiceConsole for the A700x.
- Customers using SR20 (or other wired headsets) may experience output audio stuttering or stammering. This is more common if the TTS speed is set to near or at the highest speed possible. If stuttering occurs, set the TTS speed to a lower level.
- Honeywell recommends users of wired headsets allow the Talkman device to power on before donning the headset and to remove the headset before powering off the device. There may be a popping noise as the device powers on or off and task settings (i.e.: audio_shift_db) may make the popping noise more prominent. This advice is applicable to all Talkman devices (A700x, A700, A500).
- Customers that use the Automatic Voice Load By Operator feature must be aware of the following limitation:
- If the operator switches between similar devices (for example, only between A700x series devices), the operator's preferred voice loads when the operator's headset is connected to the device.
- If VoiceConsole 5.2 or greater is used and the appropriate ECS is installed: Automatic Voice Load By Operator works as expected when switching between device types.
- If using an earlier version of Voice Console or version 5.2 without the ECS: If the operator switches between device types (from an A700 to an A700x, or vice versa), the voice associated with the loaded operator fails to load. No notification is provided to the operator that the voice load has failed after the headset is attached. The device continues to use the original voice that was loaded.
- TouchConnect pairing is recommended for the SRX2, SRX3, and SRX-SL headsets as it is faster and reduces shift start-up time.
- The following A700 functionality is not yet available for the A700x series devices:
- Sidetone
- Supervisor Audio only supported in TTS mode
- The following A700 functionality has been deprecated for the A700x series devices:
- LEAP with Dynamic WEP
- FTP
- WiFi Printing
- Pideon (display) - Honeywell recommends using a standard browser in a tablet such as an iPad®.
- VoiceArtisan's VoiceCatalyst on device.
Known Issues
Issue Description | Issue ID |
---|---|
"Headset Maintenance is Needed" Message If the SRX2/SRX3 headset plays this message when used in a freezer environment, contact your support representative for information. Do not return the headset to Honeywell unless directed to do so by your representative. | YETI-3 |
Limited EAP support EAP support is limited in this release. Please refer to EAP Support for details. | |
A700x Bluetooth Discoverable Remains On When pairing a scanner to the A700x with the scanner as initiator, A700x Bluetooth Discoverable is turned on and remains on until the connection to the scanner is complete. Once connected, Bluetooth Discoverable is turned off. | |
Unpairing Scanner Does Not Clear Pairing Information When the 8680i scanner is paired to the A700x using NFC, unpairing the scanner from Menu Options does not clear the pairing information shown in VoiceConsole. | |
ODR Data Not Cleared The Force Full Profile option (Settings > Profile Load Type > Force Full Profile) in the Talkman Startup Tool returns a "Profile Not Changed, Versions Match" message when the same profile the device is already loaded with is forced to the device. This behavior is the same as the A700. Unlike the A700, the A700x does not clear the ODR data when this option is used. Workaround: Clear the ODRs from flash since forcing the full profile load won't clear them. | |
Cannot Change A730x Scanner Parameters Using Scanner Options The A730x scanner parameters cannot be changed using the Scanner Options tab in VoiceConsole's Device Profiles screen. | |
Prefixing Bar Code with Symbology ID Not Supported The A730x currently does not support prefixing the bar code data with a symbology ID. | |
Non-ASCII Characters Not Supported Legacy codepages such as Windows-1252 that use non-ASCII characters (such as characters with accents or other diacritics) are not supported. UTF-8 encoding must be used. Contact customer support for assistance with conversion to UTF-8 encoding. | |
Possible Crash if Log Files Are Not Limited Honeywell recommends setting the maximum log file size and maximum number of log backup files to a reasonable value. This prevents log files from using too much flash space. For example: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Vocollect\CONFIG_PARAMS\DIAG_FILE] If log files are not limited and consume all available flash space, the A700x may crash. The recovery for this situation is to reload the A700x. | |
Presentation of Training Words Varies The webserver may not behave as expected when training words. The device will speak "please say the following words as they appear on the screen". At some point during the training, the device may speak "please say the following words" and training words are spoken rather than appearing on screen. The device will then speak "please say the following words as they appear on the screen" and training words are again displayed on screen. This can happen multiple times during the training session. | |
Boot-up Time Longer Than Expected Bootup time when out of network range may be longer than expected when compared to an A700 device. There may be up to a 45 second period from boot-up until the device speaks when out of range | |
WLAN is Disabled After Several Failed Authentication Attempts The WLAN network is designed to be disabled after several failed authentication attempts. This is to prevent the network from falsely thinking it is under attack. The WLAN LED will be solid amber. This should only happen in areas of poor WLAN coverage or if Bluetooth on device is continuously paging for a headset or peripheral. To re-enable the WLAN network, the device must be powered down and rebooted. | |
WLAN and Bluetooth Unresponsive The radio (WLAN and Bluetooth) may lock up due to the radio firmware and the electrical interface. The radio driver will try to detect this event and restart the firmware, but this can hang both the WLAN and Bluetooth interfaces. Both will become unresponsive although the WLAN and Bluetooth LEDs may appear normal with slow flashing. The device must be powered down and rebooted to recover. | |
SXR2 Connection Disconnects During Pairing Rarely the SRX2 headset may disconnect and reconnect in quick succession when the headset is pairing with the A700x. Once reconnected, the SRX2 works normally. | |
Restarts During Power Off and Device Timeout The A700x may restart on a graceful shutdown rather than powering off. The A700x may also restart after a device timeout. | |
A700x Shutdown May Hang The A700x may hang during shutdown. Workaround: Pull the battery. | |
TTS Stops Rarely when a task has been running for an extended time, the TTS may stop. Workaround: Perform a normal shutdown and restart the device. If the device won't shut down, pull the battery. |
EAP Support
EAP support is limited in this release. Please refer to the information below for details.
TIP
- Site Based EAP: There is a single username and password or certificate for all operators and devices at a given site.
- Device Based EAP: Each device has its own username and password. All authentication is between the device and server. The user is not involved in the authentication process.
- Operator Based EAP: Each user must log onto VoiceConsole to enter a username, password, and (optionally) a PIN. The user must enter this password (and optional PIN) on the device.
- Same/Different SSID: This indicates if the restricted and unrestricted networks have the same or different SSIDs.
- Restricted: The device connects to the restricted network using the restricted network credentials only for the purpose of loading valid credentials. Open restricted means that no authentication or encryption (an open network) is being used to connect the restricted user.
- Unrestricted: The unrestricted user has presented valid credentials and is on the unrestricted network with access to VoiceConsole.
Consult the VoiceConsole documentation for more information.

Talkman Startup Tool
TIP
In VoiceConsole 5.2, the user can access the Talkman Startup Tool by selecting Load selected profile with cable.
Use the Talkman Startup Tool to load profiles to new devices. This section assumes:
- The user has applied the specified patches to VoiceConsole.
- The user has created an appropriate profile for the A700x in VoiceConsole.
Steps:
- Copy the Talkman Startup Tool zip file from the DVD to your computer.
- Extract the zip file.
- Click on the exe file to launch the Talkman Startup Tool.
- Enter the server address of the VoiceConsole server.
- Enter the username and password for VoiceConsole.
The Talkman Startup Tool reads the sites and profiles from VoiceConsole.
NOTE
The Talkman Startup Tool does not store the VoiceConsole password.
Configuration Steps:
- Ensure the correct site is selected from the list in the upper left of the screen.
- The A700x must be off. Connect the device to the computer using a standard Micro-USB cable. The USB cable connects to the A700x maintenance port. This port is located under the flap on the side of the A700x next to the Play/Pause button.
- If the A700x powers on when connecting the USB cable, remove the cable and power the A700x off. Then press and hold the operator button while reconnecting the USB cable.
- Press and hold the Operator button on the device.
- Press and release the Play/Pause button.
- When the device's LED turns solid green, release the Operator button.
- When the device is recognized, the device serial number and device image are displayed.
- Open the Settings menu and select the profile load type. The VoiceConsole Settings will be populated with what was entered when opening the utility.
- Select the profile to load. Information about the selected profile is displayed.
- Click Begin Profile Load. If the device type does not match the profile an error message is displayed and the Begin Profile Load button is not active.
- The number of voice components to load will be displayed.
- Click Start. The progress of the component loading is displayed.
- When complete, the device reboots. The user should follow the instructions and place the device in the charger to complete the profile load.
Operating System
The A700x features a Linux operating system. When viewing the device config file, the parameters are formatted like this example:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\WZCTOOL]
"SSID"="network123"
"key"="Abcdef1234567890aBcdeF"
"encryption"=dword:4
"authentication"=dword:4
The config file format is unchanged from the A700 devices. While the entry appears in the same format as a Windows registry entry, the config file is parsed to apply the parameters to the Linux-based A700x.
VoiceCatalyst Applications
The A700x can run task packages created with any version of VCE and VoiceArtisan version 1.1 and above.
Python
Since Honeywell has upgraded the Python version in A700x to 3.6, it is possible that the VAD may have been created using a Python construct that may not be compatible with the A700x and will require rework. The following are some examples that may require rework prior to a VAD being able to be run on an A700x device. Note that when making changes, it is desirable to make the changes such that the VAD would be compatible with both the A700x and A700 devices for mixed site deployments.
- Use of windows specific constructs, such as file system path separators (using "\" instead of join) when specifying system paths. The change required for this is to rework the task such that instead of using a hard-coded path separator ("\") use the Python join API. This issue exists in Vocollect core libraries and can be resolved by updating the core library. Contact customer support for update information.
- Python 3.6 will throw an error if a task defines the same LUT more than one time whereas with Python 3.1 this was not enforced. The resolution for this is to remove the duplicate LUT from the task. This issue exists in the Vocollect core library and can be resolved by updating the core library. Contact customer support for update information.
IMPORTANT
Duplicate LUTs must be removed for VoiceCatalyst 4.0.3 and later. Earlier versions of VoiceCatalyst 4.x may not have thrown an error for these duplicates.
- ElementTree.Element.getiterator: (in _elementtree._element_iterator as _elementtree.pyd) - deprecated, iter no longer supports len
1. Not proper usage in Python 3.1.2 either - can use list(response.iter("record")) or list(response.getiterator ("record"))
2. Used in LUT/ODR MockServer.load_server_response
a. not used in LUT/ODR unit tests, but included in VoiceLink's test.py - urllib.request: previously supported bytes and string, now only bytes (or file-like objects, or iterables) but, 3.2+ urllib.request now supports HTTPS so pycurl-only SSL is not necessary but have both urllib.request and pycurl anyway
- zipfile.ZipFile.open: removed support of mode='U' (used in mock_catalyst._open_vad_file (from load_task_ configuration_from_vad))
Forward moving considerations
- time.clock(): Deprecated since 3.3, and will be removed in Python 3.8
- array.array: typecode 'u' for Unicode Strings will be removed in Python 4.0
- tostring / fromstring are deprecated with no announced removal
- __pycache__ directory with interpreter name vs. littering current directory with .pyc files (source control, not functional)
- Note: Project Context Menu > Pydev > Remove *.pyc, *.pyo and *$py.class Files will not remove __pycache__ directory (it does remove the contents)
Voice Application Compatibility Tool (VACT)
This tool is available to check VADs for Python constructs that may need rework for the A700x. This tool works by examining the VoiceApplication based on a list of rules, many of which are based on the items above. Contact customer support for tool availability.
Peripherals Tested with A700x
Bluetooth Peripherals
Pairing Bluetooth peripherals is most reliable when pairing via VoiceConsole. In addition, authentication between the device and the peripheral is required. Manual pairing of peripherals is possible in some instances (more likely if the device and peripheral are close together), but may take several attempts. Workaround is to configure peripherals to use authentication and pair them using VoiceConsole. Peripheral-specific information is included below.
Bluetooth Headsets
Headset Firmware
During A700x testing, the following headset firmware versions were used. All headsets should be upgraded to these versions.
- SRX2: firmware version 3.12
- SRX-SL: firmware version 5.13
- SRX3: firmware version 6.05
Obtain the latest headset software from Honeywell or your Honeywell reseller and use the Honeywell Accessory Update Utility to upgrade your headsets.
SRX2/SRX3 Headset
To pair an SRX2/SRX3 headset with an A700x using TouchConnect:
- Turn on the SRX2/SRX3 headset.
- If the headset's LED is blinking blue, it is currently paired to a device. Clear the pairing by pressing the + and - buttons simultaneously on the headset.
- If you are sharing headsets at your site, you must first obtain the operator ID by reading the headband:
a. Touch area of the SRX2/SRX3 t-bar (headband) with the symbol to center of the raised oval on the side of the A700x with the symbol, until the device state (ring) indicator blinks green. This associates the operator's headband to the device enabling VoiceConsole to recognize the operator.
b. Touch the side of the A700x device that has the symbol and the oval area of the SRX2/SRX3 keypad section together, aligning the ovals on each and holding them together steadily, until the A700x device state (ring) indicator blinks green. The headset sounds three ascending tones on connection and the headset's LED flashes blue slowly after connection. Note that there is a 30-second timeout after a headband is recognized in step one. You must pair the electronics module within 30 seconds from associating the headband for full functionality. - If you are not sharing headsets at your site, you only need to pair the device to the SRX2/SRX3 electronics module:
When the device starts the task, VoiceConsole recognizes the pairing.
NOTE
If TouchConnect pairing fails as indicated by the A700x device state (ring) indicator blinking red, the workaround is to power off the headset and attempt to re-pair the device.
SRX-SL Headset
To pair an SRX-SL headset with an A700x using TouchConnect:
- Turn on the SRX-SL headset.
- If the headset's LED is blinking blue, it is currently paired to a device. Clear the pairing by pressing the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons simultaneously on the headset.
- Touch the side of the A700x device that has the symbol and area of the SRX-SL eModule between the power button and LED together, holding them together steadily, until the A700x device state (ring) indicator blinks green. The headset sounds three ascending tones on connection and the headset's LED flashes blue slowly after connection.
When the device starts the task, VoiceConsole recognizes the pairing.
NOTE
If TouchConnect pairing fails as indicated by the A700x device state (ring) indicator blinking red, the workaround is to power off the headset and attempt to re-pair the device.
Bluetooth Scanners
The Honeywell 8680i, Honeywell 8670, Intermec SF51, and Intermec SR61B Bluetooth scanners have been tested with the A700x.
Honeywell 8680i Scanner
NOTE
Refer to the 8680i User Guide available at www.honeywellaidc.com for additional information and configuration bar codes.
A700x Device as Initiator
Configure 8680i Scanner
- The 8680i scanner must be set to Host Reconnect Mode (the 8680i will attempt to connect to the A700x host, and if disconnected the A700x will manage the reconnection).
- The 8680i must be configured to add termination characters (i.e.: <CR><LF>).
1. Restore factory defaults by scanning the Remove Custom Defaults and Activate Defaults bar codes.
2. Scan the Host Reconnect Mode bar code.
3. Scan the bar code to add a carriage return and line feed as termination characters.
Additional information:
- The 8680i User Guide contains bar codes to set other combinations of termination characters. To add a different termination suffix, scan the SUFBK2 (Add Suffix) bar code, then scan the bar codes for the desired suffix.
- Use the Bluetooth Disconnect bar code to unlink the scanner from the A700x.
Configure task and VoiceConsole

- Restore factory defaults by scanning the Remove Custom Defaults and Activate Defaults bar codes.
IMPORTANT
The bar code above is different from the one included in earler versions of VoiceCatalyst 4.x Release Notes.
- For an 8680i running firmware version EE000071BAC or greater - this bar code is required.
- For an 8680i running earlier versions of the firmware - this bar code is recommended although the bar code provided in earlier versions of the release notes does work with these earlier firware versions.
2. Scan the Scanner Reconnect Mode bar code.
3. Scan the bar code to add a carriage return and line feed as termination characters.
4. For scan-based pairing, create a pairing bar code for each A700x. The bar code begins with {FNC3}LnkB followed by the 12-digit Bluetooth MAC address for the A700x:
Additional information:
- The 8680i User Guide contains bar codes to set other combinations of termination characters. To add a different termination suffix, scan the SUFBK2 (Add Suffix) bar code, then scan the bar codes for the desired suffix.
- Use the Bluetooth Disconnect bar code to unlink the scanner from the A700x.
Configure task and VoiceConsole
- Set the following advanced parameter in Task config:
barcodeport = bt_scan
- Turn on Bluetooth on the A700x.
- View the properties of the A700x and ensure Bluetooth is enabled. If it is not enabled, click Edit this device and set Bluetooth Enabled to "enabled".
- Select Pair this device with a peripheral.
- For Pairing type select "Bluetooth Scanner".
- For Connection Mode select "Device listens for peripheral connection".
- For Security select "Enabled."
- Scan the LnkB bar code created above to initiate pairing.
- On the 8680i, observe the Bluetooth symbol in the user window status screen. The symbol will change from cross out or flashing to continuously lit when the 8680i is paired with the host A700x.
TouchConnect
CAUTION
During the NFC pairing process, the A700x is discoverable as a Bluetooth device.
Use this process to disconnect an 8680i scanner that was TouchConnect paired with an A700x.
IMPORTANT
VoiceConsole will still report that the A700x and 8680i are paired even after following the procedure below. This is a known issue.
- Verify the scanner is connected and that the BluetoothScannerConnectionMenuEnable parameter is set to "1".
- Select the menu option Unpair Bluetooth scanner by pressing the A700x - button three times.

Issues Fixed in Prior Releases
VoiceCatalyst 4.1.2
Issue Description | Issue ID |
---|---|
Audio Files: Audio files played with different sample rates (8k, 11k, 16k, and 44k) would crash the device. | |
Reboot when Task Loads: If task settings has speechwakeupenable = 0 the device would reboot when the task was loading. | |
NFC Pairing Timeout: A timeout is now implemented to exit the A700x from NFC pairing mode if a scanner is not found. | |
Restart Task in Charger: When this setting was enabled for a task, the A700x may have crashed when restarting the task. | |
Battery Pull: Instances of the A700x becoming unresponsive when the battery is reinserted after a battery pull have been addressed. | |
Corrupt Configuration File: Recovery put in place to handle the situation where the configuration.txt file became corrupted. | |
NFC Pairing Headset: Switching off an NFC paired headset and attempting to NFC pair a different headset may have caused the A700x to reboot. | |
Low Battery Warning: The A700x would not follow the proper low battery warning messages if the play/pause button was never pressed after the A700x restated. |
VoiceCatalyst 4.1.1
Issue Description | Issue ID |
---|---|
Headset Pairing in Client Mode: When auto-pairing was enabled (SrxAutoPairEnable = 1) the A700x would search for a headset once then stop searching. | |
NFC During Task Load: NFC was not being turned off while a task was loading. | |
Bar Codes Not Read: When a scanner is paired as the initiator, bar codes were not always being read at scan nodes in client mode. This could also occur when one scanner was unpaired and a second scanner was paired (both scanners paired as the initiator). | |
Prompts to Retrain Templates: The A700x was sometimes prompting to retrain templates for a trained operator during a noise sample. | |
A730x Becomes Unresponsive: When the A730x was used for an extended time, especially with tasks that included scans, the A730x could become unresponsive and require a power cycle to restore operation. | |
NTP Support: Network Time Protocol (NPT) is now supported on the A700x, allowing the device to update time even when it can't connect to VoiceConsole. | |
Snapshot Logs: Snapshot logs were generated if the A700x was left in the charger and automatically rebooted after 8 hours. | |
Battery Pull Forces Retraining Words: If the battery was pulled at certain times (i.e.: in the middle of a task load), the operator may be forced to retrain words after the A700x restarts. |
VoiceCatalyst 4.1
Issue Description | Issue ID |
---|---|
EAP: Limited EAP support available for this release. | |
SpeechInSpeechOutDelay: This parameter now correctly accepts non-zero values. | |
A730x Scanner: The scanner light/beam properly shuts off when the scan button is released. | |
Parameter Value Length: Parameter value lengths are supported up to and including 256 characters. | |
Rapid Scan: The rapid scan function continues until the designated time out period expires without reading a bar code. Previously rapid scanning could stop even while bar codes were being scanned. | |
Prompt Repeating: The condition where an A700x device could get into a loop where it repeated the last part of a prompt until it was shut down has been resolved. | |
VoiceConsole Device Status: There were times the A700x status might not have displayed properly in VoiceConsole (i.e.: the A700x was shown as On when it was Off, etc.). | |
Long Abort Times: If the A700x started a LUT or ODR transaction and lost Wi-Fi connectivity, there could be a long delay (i.e.: 2 minutes) before the transaction aborted. | |
Reconnection Delays: If an A700x went out of range during a picking assignment, there could be reconnect delay of a couple of minutes once the A700x returned to Wi-Fi coverage. | |
Recovery after Popping Battery: Long recovery times (i.e.: over 5 minutes) after popping the battery have been reduced. | |
SRX3 Headset Support: This release supports use of the SRX3 headset. This headset is targeted for use in all environments. Contact your partner or business development manager for more information on the SRX3 headset. | |

VoiceArtisan:
VoiceArtisan 2.0 has been released. This release addresses the remaining web server issue noted in VoiceCatalyst 4.0.2. The Mongoose server is restarted after reloading a task. Refer to the VoiceArtisan 2.0 Release Notes for details on the VoiceArtisan release.
Negative Field Value:
When a field is initialized to 9 or fewer digits in TaskBuilder, subtracting 1 from 0 in that field returned an unexpected positive value in that field.
A730x:
The scanner sometimes did not initialize on startup or did not turn on when a task contained voice prompts to enable auto scan.
VoiceCatalyst 4.0.3
Issue Description | Issue ID |
---|---|
Device Load: The size of the executable files has been reduced. Changes have been made to improve profile load performance, including recovery if a fault occurs during profile load. | |
Voices: Indian English (en_in_12) female voice has been changed due to poor quality of previous voice. British English (en-gb-12) female voice has been changed due to pronunciation issues with previous voice. | |

VoiceCatalyst 4.0.2
Issue Description | Issue ID |
---|---|
Security: With HLP-15 or less, it was possible for some Android devices to receive an unencrypted config.vrg file via NFC (Near-Field Communication) P2P (Peer-to-Peer). Beginning with HLP-16, the config.vrg file is encrypted. Additionally:
| |
DST: Issues switching to Daylight Saving Time have been resolved. IMPORTANTAny customer running VoiceCatalyst 4.0.1 without an ECS installed must install this version prior to the DST change date. A VoiceConsole patch must be installed to support the to change to Summer (Daylight Saving) Time at the correct hour in time zones that switch at times other than 2:00 AM (i.e.: British Summer Time which starts at 1:00 AM). See the Version Information table. | |
Time Zones: All time zones are supported including those offset from GMT/UTC by less than a full hour increment (i.e.: India Standard Time, which is GMT +5:30). | |
Wired Headsets: Improvements have been made for the wired headsets. The speech-to-speech latency should be improved. If stuttering occurs, set the TTS speed to a lower level. If a portion of the last prompt is repeated continuously, the user should put the device to sleep and wake it up to recover. | |
Logging: Changes have been made to the logging component to reduce the occurrence of messages being lost when VoiceConsole logging is enabled. Log files may have shown an incorrect value for flash used in earlier versions. | |
Battery Status: When first started, the A700x was ignoring battery status requests. The battery status is now reported in those situations. | |
ODRs: If ODRs were not transmitted successfully prior to an A700x shutdown, those ODRs were not being transmitted in the correct order after a reboot. ODRs are now transmitted in the proper sequence. | |
DNS: DNS names are now supported in the VoiceConsole URL. | |
Web Server: Several updates have been made around the web server functionality. These updates will help with issues some are experiencing. Note that at least one issue requires a VoiceArtisan change. This VoiceArtisan update is coming at a later date. |
