Using Your Vacuum
- Step on the recline pedal and pull the handle back towards you.
Note: To maneuver under furniture, step and hold the pedal to further recline the machine. - Connect the power cord plug to a polarized outlet.
- Press the red power button [Power Button] with your foot to turn the vacuum ON.
- Turn the dial on the foot to the desired height setting.
Tip: For best performance, adjust to the lowest practical setting. If your vacuum is difficult to push, adjust to the next higher setting. - To turn the machine OFF [Power Off], step on the power switch pedal. Once finished, loop the power cord around the cord wraps and clip it to secure.
Note: Some Berber carpets may fuzz with wear. Repeated strokes in the same area may enhance this condition.
WARNING: Before using your vacuum, ensure the dirt tank is locked in position and all filters (pre and post-filters) are in place. DO NOT operate your vacuum without these filters.

- Insert the hose into the extension wand and twist to lock. Attach the desired tool by pushing it onto the hose or extension wand.
Note: The brush roll will continue to rotate while using your vacuum for above-floor cleaning. To prevent carpet damage, do not lean on the vacuum or let the power foot tilt forward.
Emptying and Cleaning the Dirt Tank
For additional support videos and information, visit support.BISSELL.com.
- To remove the dirt tank, push the release button on top of the tank handle.
- Hold the dirt tank over a garbage bin and press the release button to empty. Snap the bottom back into place.
- Open the dirt tank lid by lifting the release latch.
- Remove the primary separator by lifting it out of the dirt tank. The tank and separator can be hand-washed with warm water and mild detergent. Rinse well and let air dry completely. Not dishwasher safe.
- Remove the hose by twisting to unlock and pulling it up. Check for clogs before reassembling.
Cleaning the Filter
- Push the dirt tank release button on top of the tank handle to remove the tank. Open the lid by lifting the release latch. The filter is located inside the dirt tank lid.
- Pull the filter to remove it. Hand wash with warm water and mild detergent. Let dry for 24 hours.
Note: Replace the filter if it is excessively dirty, damaged, or torn. - Reinstall the filter with the white mesh first and black foam facing outward. Align the filter with the lid.
Maintaining the Brush Roll and Belts
- Lay the vacuum down with the brush roll facing up. Remove five (5) screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Lift the brush cover to remove it.
- Pull the brush roll out at both ends. Clean debris from the brush roll, motor pulley, and drive belt. Replace if needed.
- Check the air passageway for obstructions. Twist the hose counterclockwise to remove and check for clogs.
- Test the brush by holding it on end and spinning it. It should spin freely several times from one flick. If not, the brush will need to be replaced.
- Grasp the drive belt, remove it from the motor shaft, and discard it. Loop a new drive belt over the motor shaft and stretch it over the brush roll in the space provided between the bristles.
- Align the brush roll with the belt and turn it several times in the direction of the wheels to align. Reinstall the brush cover and the five (5) screws.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, turn power switch OFF and disconnect the plug from the electrical outlet before performing maintenance or troubleshooting checks.
WARNING: Do not operate the vacuum with damp or wet filters, or without filters or the dirt tank in place. Allow components to dry before reassembling the dirt tank.
Maintaining the TurboBrush® Tool
For more helpful maintenance tips, visit support.BISSELL.com.
- Twist the gray collar counter-clockwise until a slot appears, then separate the faceplate.
- Remove the brush roll, belt, and paddle wheel. Inspect for damages and replace if necessary.
- To reassemble, align the two clips on each end of the paddle wheel with the belt on, and pop it back into place. Place the brush roll with the belt back in. The faceplate will not close properly if all parts are not aligned correctly.
Cleaning the Hose and Foot
- Locate the stretch hose where it connects to the hose elbow on the back of the machine. Clean any debris.
- Locate the clear foot hose under the hose holder. Remove two screws and clear clogs and debris in the hose using a long, narrow object. Replace the screws and re-attach the stretch hose by sliding it over the inlet and rotating it upwards towards the lock position.
Note: If debris cannot be reached through the hose, follow the instructions for cleaning the air passageway in the "Maintaining the Brush Roll and Belts" section.
