Debut EVO 2 Setup Guide
Getting started:
· Make sure to have enough space to unpack your turntable.
· Always unpack and setup in a clean enviroment.
· Please Do NOT throw away the packaging! If you need a service or want to return your product, please send them in the original packaging including all inserts. In case of any damage in another packaging your dealer cannot guarantee a full refund.

1 Remove dust cover from the box.
2 Take the small boxes from the carton.
3 Unpack all items that are packed in the accessorie boxes.

4 Lift the wrapped turntable out of the box.
5 Carefully remove the protection covering.
6 Remove the bottom carton inlay.
7 Unpack the platter.
8 Put the drive belt on the pulley and sub-platter.
12 Remove tonearm twist tie.
Tonearm is fragile!
9 Put the platter on the turntable.
10 Use the rocker switch to select the playback speed.
11 If necessary, level the turntable by adjusting the feet.
0°
LEFT: 33 RPM
RIGHT: 45 RPM
13 Put the counterweight in place.
STOPS THE MOTOR
14 Remove the needle protection cover.
15 Put a record on the turntable.
16 Place the tonearm between platter and armrest.
Balance the tonearm so it stays level by
17 turning the counterweight forwards and backwards on the rod. 0°
Turn the front dial of the counterweight
18 (not the whole weight) so the `0' is in line with marker at the back of the tonearm.
Balance the tonearm so it stays level by turning the counterweight forwards and backwards on the rod.
19 Turn the whole counterweight counterclockwise until the scale reads 18.
Lower the tonearm with the lift.
20 Put the loop of the Anti Skating Weight in the second groove on the tonearm post.
21 Plug in the RCA and the power cable. Unpack Dust Cover and put it on the turntable.

14 Retire la cubierta protectora de la aguja.
15 Ponga un disco en el plato.
16 Coloque el brazo entre el plato y el reposabrazos. Baje el brazo con el elevador.
17 Equilibre el brazo de tal modo que esté nivelado girando el cotrapeso hacia delante y hacia atrás a lo largo del mismo.
18 Gire el dial frontal del contrapeso (no la totalidad del mismo) de tal modo que "0" esté alineado con el indicador que hay en la zona posterior del brazo.
19 Gire en sentido horario la TOTALIDAD del contrapeso hasta que la escala indique 18.
20 Coloque el lazo que sujeta el Peso del Anti-Skating en la segunda muesca de la pequeña barra dispuesta para ello en el brazo de lectura.
21 Conecte la fuente de alimentación y el cable Connect it E (e). Las marcas en amarillo indican el amplificador.
Desembale la Cubierta Protectora y colóquela en el giradiscos.
22 ¡Conecte su equipo de Hi-Fi y disfrute con su música favorita!

18 Rode apenas o anel frontal do contrapeso de forma a colocar o "0" em linha com a marca do extremo do braço
19 Rode TODO o contrapeso no sentido contrário aos ponteiros do relógio até a escala marcar 18.
20 Coloque o olhal do fio do peso Antiskating no segundo rasgo do suporte do extremo do braço
21 Ligue a fonte de alimentação ao giradiscos e na tomada. E Ligue o cabo Connect It E (e) - o extremo com a marca Amarela liga ao amplificador. Desembrulhe a tampa de proteção e coloque-a no gira-discos
22 Ligue o gira-discos ao sistema Hi-Fi e desfrute da sua música!
14 Retirez le cache-cellule.
15 Mettez un disque sur le plateau.
16 Placez le bras de lecture entre le plateau et le support. Abaissez le bras de lecture à l'aide de la manette.
17 Équilibrez le bras de lecture pour qu'il reste à niveau en faisant tourner le contrepoids d'avant en arrière sur l'axe.
18 Tournez la molette avant du contrepoids (pas tout le poids) de sorte que le '0' soit aligné avec le repère à l'arrière du bras de lecture.
19 Tournez le contrepoids ENTIER dans le sens inverse des aiguilles d'une montre jusqu'à ce que la balance indique 18.
20 Placez la boucle de la masse antiskating dans la deuxième rainure du doigt annelé.
21 Branchez l'alimentation et le Connect it E (e). Marques de câble jaunes vers l'amplificateur.
Déballez le capot et placez-le sur la platine.
22 Connectez-vous à votre système hifi et profitez de votre musique !

Packa upp dammskyddet och sätt det på skivspelaren.

Las reparaciones en garantía sólo se aceptarán si el aparato es devuelto correctamente empaquetado, razón por la cual recomendamos que se guarde el embalaje original. No devuelva nunca un giradiscos sin asegurarse de que ha sido desmontado de manera segura y correctamente empaquetado en el embalaje original respetando los gráficos que figuran en la última página de la presente guía. Por favor, retire los siguientes componentes y empaquételos por separado: cubierta protectora, contrapeso, peso del anti-skating y correa de tracción. Antes de empaquetar cuidadosamente el giradiscos, coloque la cubierta protectora de la cápsula y el bloqueo para transporte en el tubo del brazo de lectura.

SETUP
1. Platter and drive belt installation
The deck is supplied partially disassembled and carefully packaged for safe transport. Carefully remove all parts from the transport packaging. The packaging illustration on the last page of this manual shows you how the turntable is packaged and where all the individual parts are located within the packaging.
Make sure the surface you wish to use the turntable on is level (use a spirit level) before placing the turntable on it.
Remove the transport lock from the tonearm. Store it in the original packaging so it is available for any future transportation.
Fit the drive belt (5) around the sub-platter (6) the motor pulley (4). Avoid getting sweat or grease on the belt as these will deteriorate the performance and reduce the belt's lifespan. Use absorbent kitchen paper to remove any oil or grease from the outer edge of the hub and the belt. Fit the platter (1) and felt mat (1) over the spindle of the sub-platter (6).
Connect the power supply to the power supply socket (20) on the turntable before connecting it to your mains outlet.
2. Cartridge installation, stylus exchange
* If you purchased this turntable in a package that included the cartridge, this has already been done for you. Install the cartridge on the headshell, using the appropriate hardware included with your cartridge. All cartridges with half inch mounting holes can be fitted.
Connect the cartridge as indicated below:

For correct cartridge alignment, use the two-point cartridge alignment protractor provided with your Debut
EVO 2 accessories. If unfamiliar with two-point setup, please refer to your dealer.

A damaged or worn stylus may harm your record collection and should be replaced. Please remove stylus protection before pulling the stylus from the cartridge and replace for a new one. Stylus type exchange for pre-mounted cartridge Pro-Ject MM EVO: Stylus MM EVO. If in doubt, consult your local dealer or distributor.
3. Vertical Tracking Force setting (VTF)
The counterweight (10) supplied is suitable for cartridges weighing between 6 8.5g (counterweight no. 00 Debut line, weight 55g). Pushing carefully, put the counterweight (10) on the rear end of the tonearm tube (13), with the downforce scale pointing towards the front of the turntable. Lower the arm lift and position the tonearm in the space between arm rest and platter. Carefully rotate the counterweight (10) until the arm tube balances out. The arm should return to the balanced position if it is moved up or down. This adjustment must be done carefully. Do not forget to remove the cartridge protection cap if fitted. Once the arm is correctly balanced, return it to the rest. Hold the counterweight (10) without moving it, and gently revolve the downforce scale ring until the zero is in line with the anti-skating stub. Check whether the arm still balances out. Rotate the counterweight counterclockwise (seen from the front) to adjust the downforce according to the cartridge manufacturer's recommendations. One mark on the scale represents 1 mN (= 0,1g / 0,1 Pond) of the downforce.
Please note: When adjusting VTF, anti-skating weight and the cartridge protection cap should be removed first.
Recommended tracking force for Pro-Ject MM EVO cartridge: 1.8g (= 18 mN)
4. Anti-skating adjustment The anti-skating force must be adjusted corresponding to the downforce.
Downforce 10 - 14mN 15 - 19mN 20mN and bigger

Hang the loop of the thread of the anti-skating weight in the groove of the anti-skating stub (9) corresponding to the downforce applied to your cartridge and hang the thread in the groove of the wire support (8).

5. Maintenance and cleaning Your record player requires little or no regular maintenance. Remove dust with a slightly moistened antistatic cloth. Never use a dry cloth because this will create static electricity which attract more dust! Antistatic cleaning fluids are available at specialist stores but must be applied sparingly to avoid damage to rubber parts. It is recommended to fit the needle cover before cleaning or maintenance is carried out to avoid damage. If the player is not used over a long period of time the drive belt can be removed to prevent unequal stretching.
6. Switching on and off, changing replay speed The turntable is equipped with a three-position switch for ON/OFF and electronic speed change. To play records at 33 rpm, press the switch (2) to the "I" position. To play records at 45 rpm, press this switch (2) to the "II" as shown on illustration below.
7. Fitting the lid Fit the lid (dust cover 15) carefully over the hinge prongs and adjust the screws (17) until the lid stays open where you want it to without being too stiff to open or close.
8. Connection to the amplifier Connect the tonearm cables to the Phono input (sometimes labelled gram, disc or RIAA) on your amplifier. Make sure that the phono input offers correct matching and amplification for the type of cartridge used. Line inputs (such as CD, Tuner, Tape or Video) are not suitable. Take care to connect the left and right channels correctly. The right channel is usually marked red, the left channel black or white. Check the manual supplied with your amplifier for relevant information. An earthing wire may be connected to the screw terminal on your amplifier you encounter hum problems when using the record player. If your amplifier does not have an input suitable for phono cartridges you will require a separate phono amplifier stage for MM or MC cartridges which is then connected between the record player and a free line level input of the amplifier. The included MM EVO cartridge requires a MM phono preamplifier, with recommended settings: impedance: 47kOhm; capacitance: 150pF; gain: 40dB If your amplifier's MM phono input or MM phono preamplifier don't have switchable settings, those amp's default settings will also work reasonably well. Consider investing into a nice, dedicated phono preamp to gain more control and sound performance from your turntable.
9. Azimuth adjustment The cartridge needle must be vertical in the record groove in order to trace the groove wall modulations correctly. A small screw at the bearing end of the arm allows incorrect azimuth to be corrected if your needle is not mounted exactly perpendicular to the cartridge body (which is often the case). Slacken off the screw just enough to be able to revolve the arm tube without applying force.
Note! Do not remove the screw completely!

Potential incorrect use and fault conditions
Pro-Ject turntables are manufactured to the highest standards and undergo strict quality controls before leaving the factory. Faults that may possibly occur are not necessarily due to material or production faults but can sometimes be caused by incorrect use or unfortunate circumstances. Therefore, the following list of common fault symptoms is included.
The platter doesn't turn although the unit is switched on:
The unit is not connected to the mains power supply. No mains at the socket. Drive belt is not fitted or has slipped off.
No signal through one or other channel or both channels:
No signal contact from the cartridge to the internal tonearm wiring or from that to the arm lead or from that to the phono box or between that and the amplifier. This could be due to a faulty plug, broken wire or solder joint or simply loose plug/socket connection. Correct input not selected at amplifier. Amplifier is not switched on. Amplifier or speakers are defective or muted. No connection to the loudspeakers.
Distorted or inconsistent sound from one or both channels:
Record player is connected to wrong input of amplifier. Needle or cantilever damaged. Wrong r.p.m., drive belt overstretched or dirty, platter bearing without oil, dirty or damaged.
Service
Should you encounter a problem which you are not able to alleviate or identify despite the above information, please contact your dealer for further advice. Only when the problem cannot be resolved there should the unit be sent to the responsible distributor in your country.
Guarantee repairs will only be affected if the unit is returned correctly packaged. For this reason, we recommend keeping the original packaging.
Never return a record player without making sure that is it safely disassembled and correctly packaged in the original packaging according to the diagrams on the last page of this user guide. Please remove these parts and pack them separately: lid, counterweight, anti-skating weight and belt.
Fit the cartridge protection cap and the transport lock for the tonearm tube, prior to carefully packaging the record player.

Turntable Electrical Hum Guide

Hum is a quite common issue in audio setups with turntables. As fairly high amplifiction is needed to make the turntable signal audible, even minor faults in the setup can lead to hum issues. However, in most cases the cause of the problem is in the wiring/connection, so the turntable itself is not faulty. A good starting point is to check whether the hum has mechanical or electrical origins. Just follow the steps below.

1. Ground wire
Check if the ground wire is connected on both sides (i.e. to the turntable as well as to the amplifier). In case your amplifier does not have a ground connection pin, most likely it does not have a phono-input (phono-preamp). If this is the case use the turntables built-in phono preamp or an external phono-preamp. In some rare occasions the hum can also disappear when the ground connection is disconnected. So please try this step as well.

2. Grounding
Check the grounding of your system. This can be easily done by looking at the mains plugs of all components of your HiFi system (i.e. all components connected to your amplifier/powered speakers). See below a reference of grounded/non grounded plugs in various countries:

a. If none of your HiFi components are connected via a grounded plug to mains you have a ,,floating ground system" (see possible setup below). In that case you have to ground your system to eliminate the hum. We recommend connecting your Pro-ject turntable with a Pro-Ject High Power it power supply to mains.
Note: As convential audiophile amplifiers are usually grounded, it is not necessary to have a grounded power supply on turntables. Pro-Ject wants to avoid waste & unneeded features. Therefore a grounded power supply is not included in the standard package. However, if you own a Pro-ject turntable + Pro-Ject Amplifier (e.g. preamp like Pre Box, integrated amp like MaiA, or similar - Phono Box alone doesn`t count) and your setup does require a grounded power supply ask your dealer about a Pro-Ject High Power it

b. If more than one of your HiFi components are connected via a grounded plug to mains you have created a ground loop (see possible setup below). If you connect all your components to one single power strip, you can massively reduce the hum. Use a proper built power strip (Pro-Ject Connect it Power 4 & 6way) and do not daisy chain multiple power strips. You can also check if any of the grounded components has a ,,ground lift" switch. In that case switch to the ,,lift" position on all but one components with a grounded plug. The amplifier usually remains on the ,,ground" position & is the exemption.

Amplifier and Phono preamp have a ground connection which leads to the possibility of introducing hum through a ground loop. Use a single, properly built power strip, do not daisy chain multiple power strips and engage a ground lift switch on the Phono preamp, if available.

The Amplifier has a grounded connection and there is one single, proper ground for the entire setup. Turntable and Phono preamp ground are connected to the Amplifier ground via the ground wire of the RCA cables.

3. Electromagnetic interference
a. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) can also cause hum in your HiFi system. Turn all nearby (i.e. in the same room) electromagnetically raditiating devices off. Electromagnetially radiating devices are: · WiFi Routers, Modems, WiFi Repeaters, etc. · PCs, Laptops, Tablets, Mobile phones, etc. · Stream devices (like Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV Stick) If the hum disappears after you turned off those devices, try to place these devices as far away as possible from your HiFi system.
b. Another way of eliminating electromagnetically induced hum, is to change your MM (moving magnet) to a MC (moving coil) cartridge. Their low internal impedance is less prone to such interferences. However, a MC cartridge requires also a phono preamp that is suitable to a MC design. Note that not all phono preamplifiers can handle the very low output of a MC cartridge. For example a Pro-Ject Phono Box S2 Ultra or Tube Box S2 are excellent phono preamps for low output MC cartridges.
Great starter Phono preamps recommended for MC cartridges: They feature a big set of options to individually tailor the preamp to the MC cartridge, resulting in best audio performance without noise. See chapter 4. for more information.

4. Phono preamp
A not poperly adjusted phono preamp can also be the cause when hum becomes audible. This can be due to unnecessarily high amplification. Unmatched gain, input impedance and input capacity on your Phono preamp can also lead to additional noise. The correct setup depends on your cartridge, but as a rule of thumb you can use these starting points:

* IMPORTANT NOTICE: Do not turn your Preamp volume all the way up, to unrealistic loudness levels. You want to check for hum or noise at regular/loud listening levels that you usually listen to music at. Otherwise you will add Preamp/Poweramp gain and noise, which will not accurately let you judge your real-world audio performance. If you are always listening at 100% cranked potentiometer levels, it might be time to upgrade other parts of your Hifi system to reduce noise and increase audio performance.
If - for example - the (input) impedance for a MM cartridge is too low, the output would be very little (i.e. quiet) & extremly recessed high frequencies. Increasing the amplification is the wrong solution & would lead the increased hum.
Note that some of these parameters might not be adjustable on your phono preamp. If you are unsure please consult the instruction manual. It`s also possible that the phono preamp has just an MM/MC switch:

5. Cables
Take a closer look at your phono cable (i.e. the cable between turntable & phono preamp). It`s important to use proper shielded cables. Unfortunately it is hard to tell from the outside how the shielding is done. If you are unsure about your cable quality, invest in a better cable. Even if this doesn`t solve your hum issues, it`s definitely a worthwhile investment, as a good phono cable can improve sound quality enormously. Additionally, all Pro-Ject phono cables are semi-symmetrical and have a very low internal impedance, purpose designed to be used with turntables and phono preamps.

Moreover, avoid parallel routing of audio & power cables. This is especially important for the audio cable from the turntable to the phono preamp, as the audio signal in this stage is extremely low & prone to interference. Try to seperate them & cross them - when necessary - as close to 90° as possible.
