BLOWER CONTROL
All Vert-I-Paks, by default, are configured for low-speed blower operation. The speed setting can be changed to high speed by updating the speed tap settings on the fan control relay. Any non-Friedrich thermostat or low-voltage device powered by the Vert-I-Pak requires review and approval.
NOTE: Fan speed cannot be changed at the thermostat. Regardless of wiring GH and/or GL, the unit will continue to operate at the speed setting at the fan control relay.
The blower control system involves wiring connections to an indoor motor controller, speed relay, and power source (L1, L2, GND). Low speed is the factory default, selected from the indoor motor controller. High speed is a field wiring option.
CONDENSER CFM & EXTERNAL STATIC PRESSURE
Vert-I-Pak units are designed for installation through an exterior wall using a plenum (VPAWP1-8, VPAWP1-14) and an external louver. If default plenum and louver combinations are not used, selections and design must be evaluated to ensure total pressure drop does not exceed maximum allowable limits.

HVAC Engineering Specifications
Single Packaged Heat Pumps
- Cooling: 9,000 – 21,200 Btu/hr
- Heating: 8,200 – 18,500 Btu/hr (Heat Pump), 8500–34130 Btu/hr (Back Up Electric Heat)
General Construction
Units are factory assembled, piped, wired, and fully charged with R-410A. They are certified per AHRI Standard 210/240, ETL listed, and factory run-tested. Friedrich or equivalent manufactures the units.
Basic unit dimensions: not exceeding 23 1/8" W x 23 1/8" D. Overall height varies by model (up to 32 1/4" for 12,000 Btu, 47 1/4" for 18,000 Btu, 51 1/4" for 24,000 Btu).
The unit is designed to insert into a factory-supplied wall plenum (2 3/8" depth) to minimize room intrusion. Wall plenums accommodate wall thicknesses from 4 1/2" to 14" and are adjustable.
Ambient air is drawn through the upper portion of an architectural louver (25 9/16" W x 31 1/16" H) and heated air is exhausted through the lower portion. The unit secures to the louver via a two-part, weather-resistant wall plenum. Installations can be left, right, or straight-in without field modifications.
Construction: 18-gauge galvanized zinc-coated steel with 1/2" foil-backed insulation for sound and thermal efficiency.
Wall plenum: 20-gauge galvanized zinc-coated steel, pretreated and powder-coated. Black color for minimal exterior visibility. Shipped with a protective weatherboard.
Architectural louver: Extruded anodized aluminum with horizontal louvers.
The unit includes vibration isolators and a non-rigid plenum-to-chassis connection. It features a plastic fan, fan shroud, drain pan, and aluminum outdoor coil endplates for corrosion protection.
Units ship with return air filter brackets and a 14" x 20" or 18" x 20" filter.
Refrigeration System
Hermetically sealed system with a rotary compressor mounted on vibration isolators. Coils are copper tubes with aluminum plate fins. Capillaries are used as expansion devices. A fan slinger ring enhances efficiency and condensate disposal. Primary condensate removal uses 3/4" FTP fittings; a secondary overflow expels water outside if the primary drain line clogs.
Air Handling Section
Separate motors for indoor and outdoor air sections. Airflow is directed vertically through a rectangular opening (same size for 9K/12K and 18K/24K units).
Chassis includes a damper for up to 60 CFM of fresh air, filtered by a fine mesh screen. Damper controlled by a front-mounted slide lever.
Controls
Factory-equipped terminal strip for standard 24-volt single-stage heat/cool thermostat. Includes a transformer wired for Friedrich or approved devices. Low voltage inputs: C (common), R (24V power), Y (cooling), G (fan), W (heat), B (reversing valve). Unit is hard-wired with a quick-disconnect for control box service.
Corrosion Protection
Features corrosion-resistant materials and finish. Outdoor coil has Diamonblue advanced corrosion protection with hydrophilic-coated fins for extended coil life, especially in seacoast applications.
Accessory Access Panel
Optional factory-supplied panel provides access to the unit and return air. It includes a filter holder for a field-supplied 25" x 20" x 1" filter and a hinge bracket for mounting the door (return air openings high or low for optimal sound attenuation).
