Introduction

This tool is intended for grinding, cutting, and deburring metal and stone materials without the use of water. It is not intended for professional use. Cutting operations with abrasive cut-off wheels are only allowed when a cut-off guard (available as optional SKIL accessory 2610S00253 for 9130/9134 or 2610S00275 for 9131/9132) is used. Please read and save this instruction manual.

Safety

General Power Tool Safety Warnings

  1. Work Area Safety
    • Keep work area clean and well lit.

    • Use an RCD-protected supply in damp locations.
  3. Personal Safety
    • Stay alert and use common sense. Do not use while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
    • Use personal protective equipment (eye protection, dust mask, non-skid shoes, hard hat, hearing protection).
    • Prevent unintentional starting: ensure the switch is off before connecting to power or picking up the tool.
    • Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the tool on.
    • Do not overreach; maintain proper footing and balance.
    • Dress properly; avoid loose clothing, jewelry, and keep hair away from moving parts.
    • Ensure dust extraction facilities are connected and used properly.
    • Be aware of tool safety principles; do not become complacent.
  4. Power Tool Use and Care
    • Do not force the power tool; use the correct tool for the application.
    • Do not use the tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.
    • Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack before making adjustments, changing accessories, or storing.
    • Store idle power tools out of reach of children and untrained users.
    • Maintain power tools and accessories; check for misalignment or binding of moving parts. Have damaged tools repaired before use.
    • Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
    • Use the power tool, accessories, and tool bits in accordance with instructions, considering working conditions.
    • Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.
  5. Service
    • Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts.

Safety Instructions for Angle Grinders

  1. Safety Warnings Common for Grinding or Abrasive Cutting-Off Operations
    • This power tool is intended for grinding or cut-off operations.
    • Not recommended for sanding, wire brushing, or polishing.
    • Use only accessories specifically designed and recommended by the manufacturer.
    • Accessory rated speed must be at least equal to the maximum speed marked on the power tool.
    • Outside diameter and thickness of accessory must be within the power tool's capacity rating.
    • Threaded mounting of accessories must match the grinder spindle thread.
    • Do not use a damaged accessory. Inspect wheels for chips and cracks, backing pads for cracks, wire brushes for loose wires. Test-run tool at maximum no-load speed for one minute after installing an accessory.
    • Wear personal protective equipment (face shield, safety goggles, safety glasses, dust mask, hearing protectors, gloves, shop apron).
    • Keep bystanders a safe distance away from the work area.
    • Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, when the accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord.
    • Position the cord clear of the spinning accessory.
    • Never lay the power tool down until the accessory has come to a complete stop.
    • Do not run the power tool while carrying it at your side.
    • Regularly clean the power tool's air vents.
    • Do not operate the power tool near flammable materials.
    • Do not use accessories that require liquid coolants.
  2. Kickback and Related Warnings
    • Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged rotating wheel, backing pad, brush, or other accessory.
    • Maintain a firm grip on the power tool and position your body and arm to resist kickback forces. Always use the auxiliary handle.
    • Never place your hand near the rotating accessory.
    • Do not position your body in the area where the power tool will move if kickback occurs.
    • Use special care when working corners, sharp edges, etc. Avoid bouncing and snagging.
    • Do not attach a saw chain woodcarving blade or toothed saw blade.
  3. Safety Warnings Specific for Grinding and Abrasive Cutting-Off Operations
    • Use only wheel types recommended for your power tool and the specific guard designed for the selected wheel.
    • The grinding surface of centre depressed wheels must be mounted below the plane of the guard lip.
    • The guard must be securely attached and positioned for maximum safety.
    • Wheels must be used only for recommended applications. Do not grind with the side of a cut-off wheel.
    • Always use undamaged wheel flanges that are of correct size and shape.
    • Do not use worn down wheels from larger power tools.
  4. Additional Safety Warnings Specific for Cutting Off Operations
    • Do not "jam" the cut-off wheel or apply excessive pressure. Do not attempt an excessive depth of cut.
    • Do not position your body in line with and behind the rotating wheel.
    • When the wheel is binding or interrupting a cut, switch off the power tool and hold it motionless until the wheel stops. Never attempt to remove the cut-off wheel from the cut while it is in motion.
    • Do not restart the cutting operation in the workpiece. Let the wheel reach full speed and carefully re-enter the cut.
    • Support panels or oversized workpieces to minimize the risk of wheel pinching and kickback.
    • Use extra caution when making a "pocket cut" into existing walls or other blind areas.
