Operating Instructions
Introduction
The JetSort® model 1606 interfaces with JetScan® Single-Pocket and Dual-Pocket currency scanners or JetCount® currency counters. The JetSort acts as the host, displaying and printing machine totals based on setup configurations. This document details the interface and basic functions when these machines operate together.

Setup
Setup Mode Function Keys

JetScan and JetCount Function Keys

Connecting Your JetSort
Install Software Kit 2 and Kit 4 before connecting the JetScan (model 4062 and higher) or JetCount (model 4020 or higher). JetScan and JetCount Bilcnt must be set to AUTO or DEMND.
Program JetSort to Operate with JetScan or JetCount
To set bill count and print features:
- From the SETUP menu, advance to the BILCNT menu.
- Press PRINT to move the cursor to the bottom menu line.
- Press TOTALS or DENOM to scroll to the desired setting:
- Auto – Note totals appear after each sub-batch is ended.
- Dmnd - Note totals appear only when MEDIA is pressed.

- Press START S/BAT to move the cursor to the Prnt option.
- Press TOTALS or DENOM to scroll to the desired setting:
- All – prints totals by denomination of processed currency.
- Total – prints total of processed currency.
- Press CLEAR to exit or continue to the next menu option by pressing PRINT, then START S/BAT.
- Press PRINT to exit OPTIONS menu.
- Press START S/BAT to scroll to the PORT 1 menu.
Set Peripheral Device, Baud Rate, Stop Bits and Parity
JetSort has four communication ports. To connect a JetScan or JetCount, baud rate, stop bits, and parity must be set. The exact settings are irrelevant as long as the JetSort settings match the JetScan or JetCount settings.

Set JetSort Communication Ports
- Press PRINT to move the cursor to the bottom menu line.
- Press TOTALS to scroll to peripheral type: JtS (JetScan) or JtC (JetCount). For more information about other peripheral types, see the JetSort 1000 Series Coin Sorter Operating Instructions.
- Press START S/BAT to advance to Baud Rate options.
- Press TOTALS to scroll to correct Baud Rate (see table above).
- Press START S/BAT to advance to Stop Bits and Parity options.
- Press TOTALS to scroll to correct Stop Bits and Parity (see table above).
- Press CLEAR to exit.
- Connect cable to the programmed port.

Set JetScan or JetCount Communication Ports
To set the port to match JetSort baud rate, stop bits, and parity:
- Press and hold Key 15.
- Press Key 3 for the SETUP menu.
- Press Key 5 until PORT 1 STATUS menu is reached.
- Press Key 3 to bring the arrow prompt to the setting field.
- Press Key 13 to select the desired peripheral: JetSort.
- Press 5 to move the arrow to the next field.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 to set Baud Rate, Stop Bits, and Parity (refer to the previous page's table).
- After setting the desired modes, press Key 6 to exit OPTIONS menu, then Key 7 to exit SETUP menu.
- Connect Cables.

How to Use
Batch Processing
Start Batch with JetSort and JetScan
- Pour coins from lift tray into coin hopper.
- On the JetSort, press START BATCH.
- On the JetScan, select a currency Operating Mode (Count, Sort, or Mixed).
- Place currency in the JetScan hopper.
- JetScan automatically begins processing currency and stops to display prompts based on the chosen Operating Mode.
- The JetSort displays <ENTER> and the amount of currency processed.

Retrieve JetScan Information (Single Pocket)
JetSort displays running totals for all coins and currency while in the Batch Waiting condition. Press individual denomination keys from the JetSort Batch Waiting screen to view values for each denomination.
To display totals on the JetScan Single-Pocket:
- Press DENOM on JetScan to display totals for individual denominations.
- Press UNIT on JetScan to alternate between total bill counts, total dollar values, denomination counts and values, and strap limit counts and values.
Retrieve JetScan Information (Two Pocket)
To display totals on the JetScan Two-Pocket:
- Press MENU on JetScan touch screen.
- Press BATCH to display totals.
Strap Limits – JetScan
When JetScan operates in Stranger, Sort, and Count Modes, JetSort displays Strap Limit messages when denomination counts exceed set limits. Strap limits are programmed through the JetScan SETUP menu. Strap Limits – JetCount
JetSort includes the Programmable Strap Stops (PSS) function. When activated, the JetSort PSS function overrides JetCount strap settings.
To activate PSS settings on the JetSort:
- Press LIMITS.
- Press DENOM to select the desired denomination.
- Using the numeric keypad, enter the strap-limit value.
- Press ENTER to save the setting or CLEAR to re-enter the limit.
- Press LIMITS twice to exit and return to a Batch Ended condition.

Manually Enter Currency/Data
To manually enter currency through the JetSort, enable “Currency” in the JetSort SETUP menu. For more information, see JetSort 1000 Series Coin Sorter Operating Instructions.
- Press START BATCH.
- Enter the currency amount on the numeric keypad. Press ENTER. The currency amount is displayed on the JetSort screen.
- Press ENTER a second time to save totals and return to the Batch Waiting condition.
Correcting Manually Entered Currency/Data
If an incorrect value is entered on the keypad but ENTER has not been selected, press CLEAR and re-enter the correct value. If an incorrect value is entered and ENTER has been selected, an adjustment amount must be entered.
To make an adjustment to a media balance, enter the adjustment amount (added or subtracted) on the numeric keypad. To add the adjustment amount to the media total, press Enter. To subtract, press " -". Press Enter to record the media value and return to the Batch Waiting condition.
Add to JetScan Totals through JetSort
- From the Batch Waiting condition, press MEDIA.
- Press DENOM to select the desired denomination.
- Enter the total units for the denomination on the numeric keypad (e.g., seven $10 notes are entered as 7).
- Press ENTER.
- Press DENOM to cycle through denomination screens until the following screen appears:

- To add notes to any entry, repeat steps two through seven.
- Press ENTER to save new totals and return to Batch Waiting condition.
Subtract from JetScan Totals through JetSort
- From the Batch Waiting condition, press MEDIA.
- Press DENOM to select the desired denomination.
- Press CLEAR. JetSort clears counts for the selected denomination.
- Press DENOM to cycle through denomination screens until the following screen appears:

Printing Reports
JetSort Batch Reports display individual or combined currency counts and values based on PRINT FORMAT (1) and PRINT FORMAT (2) settings selected during JetSort setup. Additional reports through the JetScan or JetCount interface vary based on setup options.
