If longer heating cable lengths are required, separate power supply points will be necessary. nVent recommends using nVent RAYCHEM SBS-FP-xx16A cabinets to manage 3, 6, 9, or 12 heating circuits.

The nVent RAYCHEM Raystat V5 unit is equipped with a removable cover. The upper and lower parts of the housing contain electronic components and are interconnected by an Ethernet connector cable. The unit is supplied with the rear part and the upper cover detached.

Attention: For surge protection (e.g., lightning strikes), the use of an external surge protection system is recommended.

Maintenance and Care

Clean the Raystat V5 unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use solvents. Do not spray the unit. Do not clean with a water jet or high-pressure cleaner. Avoid installing the controller in rooms with high humidity and condensation. The user interface must be clean and dry to be usable. For outdoor installation, protection against sun and rain is recommended.

Description

The nVent RAYCHEM Raystat V5 model is an electronic regulation thermostat featuring a display, advanced alarm functions, and a high switching capacity (25 A). The Raystat V5 model is designed to regulate nVent heating cable systems. The heating cables are switched on and off via the Raystat V5 unit or a contactor.

Direct switching of heating cables is possible for heating loads up to 25 A. For heating loads exceeding 25 A, indirect switching via a contactor with appropriate ratings, controlled by a Raystat V5 regulator, is necessary.

Installation and all wiring must comply with current regulations. The device must only be installed in non-explosive areas. nVent offers other regulators specifically designed for ATEX zones.

! Warning: The sensor must be installed. Attention: The position of the sensor on the pipe or in the ambient must correspond to the operating mode (PIPE or Air). Incorrect assignment can lead to pipe freezing.

With an alarm reporting function, errors can be read remotely. During unit commissioning, it is recommended to simulate the sensor functionality in PIPE detection mode, as the AIR/PASC mode is not suitable for this test due to the PASC algorithm's delay. The unit can be pre-programmed in the OFF mode using an external power supply (ordered separately) connected via a USB A-A cable and a USB connection.

Installation of the sensor for higher temperature ranges:

For higher temperature ranges, up to 250°C, a PT100 type sensor can be connected using the SM-PT-100-1 module (PCN: 1244-022441). A unit reset is necessary to recognize this new hardware module and activate the new temperature range.

2.1 Program Start - Quick Start

2.1.1 Quick Start

The Raystat V5 unit features an LED user interface. The unit defaults to the main display screen after 2 minutes of inactivity on parameter entry screens.

Upon initial power-up, perform a quick start setup to initialize the unit. The quick start allows for the definition of all important parameters. The unit will automatically switch to the main display screen upon completion. Quick start is sufficient for normal operations. For more complex installations, other options can be selected in the Setup menu.

Quick start will only initiate if no preset has been made.

Parameter Setup:

The display shows "boot" followed by a sequence of indicators. The buttons are labeled 1-4.

POWER ON: Flashing indicator.

Heating cable: Refers to the heating cable itself.

Pipe/line sensing: Refers to detecting the temperature on a pipe or line.

Ambient sensing: Refers to detecting the ambient air temperature.
