Child Restraint Use

  • Never remove child while vehicle is moving.
  • Never leave child unattended.
  • Hot restraints can cause burns.
  • Do not use with damaged or missing parts, or cut/frayed harnesses.
  • Do not substitute parts or modify the restraint.
  • Do not lubricate buckles/fasteners.
  • Only use approved accessories.
  • This is not a toy; do not allow children to play with it.
  • Do not remove or cover warning labels.
  • Read all instructions for additional warnings.
  • Do not use more than 10 years after the manufacture date.

Installation in Vehicle

Check vehicle belt or lower anchor belt before each use. Ensure it is tightened and locked securely. The restraint should be belted even when not in use to prevent injury in a crash or sudden stop. Do not use a restraint that has been in a crash; get a new one.

Vehicle Seating Position

  • Never place a child rear-facing in a seat with an active frontal airbag. Check vehicle owner's manual for airbag/restraint info.
  • Use only on vehicle seats that face forward.
  • Do not use on side or rear-facing seats.
  • Use the center seating position if possible.
  • For vehicles without a back seat, consult your owner's manual.
  • If unsure about placement, consult your owner's manual, Dorel Juvenile Group Consumer Care, or a local Child Passenger Inspection Station (find one at http://www.safercar.gov/cpsApp/cps/index.htm).
  • Children are safer in rear seating positions.

Precautions for Hot Weather

  1. Park in shade or cover restraint when not in use.
  2. Check for hot seat and buckles before placing child.
  3. Use a towel to protect vehicle upholstery.

Choosing Lower Anchor or Vehicle Belts

Your vehicle's features may differ from illustrations.

The LATCH System

LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) is a universal system. It can only be used in vehicles with installed lower anchor bars and designated LATCH positions. Most vehicles manufactured after September 2002 have lower anchor bars. Check your owner's manual for LATCH compatibility.

Vehicle Belts

If LATCH is not an option or child weighs over 40 lb (18 kg), use the vehicle seat belt. Some belts may require special attention. Check your owner's manual.

⚠️ WARNINGS: Lower anchor belts and vehicle belts are equally safe when used correctly. Do not use both at the same time.

Storing Lower Anchor Belt

When installing with vehicle belts or as a booster, store lower anchor hooks and belt properly. Thread the belt through the rear-facing path, attach hooks to storage, and gently tighten to remove slack.

Knowing Your Vehicle Belts

Not all belts and positions work with child restraints. Follow these steps to lock a restraint with a vehicle belt:

  1. Review Vehicle Owner's Manual: To identify compatible belts and positions.
  2. Determine Locking Method: The belt MUST NOT loosen after tightening. This requires a way to lock the belt, either via the retractor or the latch plate.
  3. Check the Retractor: Retractors pull belts into stored positions and lock them.

Types of Retractors

  • Switchable Retractor: Can be switched to a locking mode. Pull the shoulder belt all the way out, then let it retract slightly. A ratcheting sound indicates locking mode. Gently pull to test lock.
  • Automatic Locking Retractor: Always locks. Locks after pulling belt out halfway and letting it retract slightly.
  • Emergency Locking Retractor: Locks only during sudden stops or collisions. If the retractor does not lock, it may be this type. You may need to check if your latch plate can lock the belt.

Aircraft Information

This restraint is certified for aircraft use with the internal harness. It is NOT certified for aircraft use as a booster seat because aircraft seats lack shoulder belts.

  • Install in a window seat to avoid blocking the aisle.
  • If the lap belt is too short, ask the flight attendant for an extender.
  • Use only on forward-facing aircraft seats.
  • Contact the airline for specific policies.
  • An airplane certification label is located on the side of the restraint.

⚠️ WARNING: Store the lower anchor belt and tether strap when using aircraft belts.

Rear Facing Aircraft Installation: Follow pages 39-42.

Forward Facing Aircraft Installation: Follow pages 49-51.

  4. Buckle Vehicle Belt.
  5. Position Shoulder Belt: Slide shoulder belt under the Easy Out Harness Holder. Pull up to tighten. The belt should be snug across the center of the shoulder and chest, not on the face or neck. Use shoulder belt-positioning guides if necessary. Check periodically to ensure the belt remains properly positioned.

Using a Locking Clip

Locking clips are rarely needed in vehicles manufactured since 1996, as built-in locking systems are common. Check your owner's manual and pages 29-31 to see if your vehicle belts require a locking clip.

Locking clips are available at auto dealerships, auto stores, or by calling 1-800-544-1108.

A locking clip requires a lap and shoulder belt. Do not use it when using the seat as a booster.

For Rear Facing installation: Follow pages 39-41, Steps 1-6.

For Forward Facing installation: Follow pages 49-51, Steps 1-5.

  1. Determine Locking Clip Position: Grasp both belts behind the latch plate to mark position. Unbuckle. If latch plate is at the belt path opening, grasp belts on the opposite side.
  2. Attach Locking Clip: Thread both belt portions onto the clip, close to the latch plate.
  3. Position Locking Clip: About 1 in. (2.5 cm) from the vehicle belt's latch plate.
  4. Rebuckle Vehicle Belt.
  5. Check Belt Tightness: Hold restraint at belt path. Push and pull side-to-side. If it moves more than 1 in. (2.5 cm), try reinstalling or another location. For rear-facing, recheck level line. For forward-facing, tighten tether strap.

Remove the locking clip when the seat belt is not used with a child restraint.
