PickPen® II

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The PickPen® II is designed to transfer magnetic particles when working with BioControl's Assurance GDS® pathogen detection kits.
Part No: 73091 (8 magnet)
PROCEDURE
A. Loading Disposable Tips With magnets withdrawn into the carrier sleeves, position the PickPen II over PickPen II tips (Part No: 73085 or 73087) and push down firmly to seat the tips over the carrier sleeves.
B. Collection of Magnetic Particles (a) Check that the tips are firmly in place by depressing the red
button to the first stop to extend the magnets. Depressing the black upper button will retract the magnets. (b) With the magnets locked in the extended position, dip the tips into the suspension containing the magnetic particles. Collect particles by stirring gently for the specified amount of time while continually moving up and down from the surface to the bottom of the well.
C. Transfer of Magnetic Particles (a) Once the particles are collected, withdraw the tips from
the solution. Tap the PickPen II tips against inside of sample wells to remove and residual liquid. The particles will remain attached to the ends of the tips due to the magnetic attraction. (b) If necessary, transfer particles to a suitable wash solution to further remove any residual materials. (c) Transfer particles to a suitable buffer and depress the black button to retract the magnets. Gently stir tips in the buffer solution to completely release the particles.
D. Ejecting Tips After completing transfer of magnetic particles, the tips can be ejected into a suitable biohazard container by depressing the red button to the second stop.
STORAGE
Exposure to temperatures above 80°C can demagnetize the magnetic tips.
The PickPen II does not require any calibration and should not be disassembled.
