Known Anomalies

This table lists known anomalies in FactoryTalk Historian ME.

Description

Typical Workaround

FactoryTalk Historian ME does not support v18 firmware in a controller. Data Collection will terminate unexpected after a period of time while collecting data from a v18 processor. In addition, changes to public / private data settings in the controller can cause Data Collection to stop.

Do not use a controller with v18 firmware to collect data.
Future releases of FactoryTalk Historian ME will support additional firmware versions.

Point creation in FactoryTalk Historian SE may fail. This occurs if an archive shift occurs on the FactoryTalk Historian SE server while Data Transfer is creating tags.

You must restart Data Transfer. Data Transfer creates any FactoryTalk Historian SE tags that are required at startup.

When using the Add Points Wizard, changing the scan rate of one data type will cause all data types at that scan rate to change.

Avoid changing the scan rate of one tag after tags have been discovered, but not configured, if you use the Add Points Wizard to collect data.

Description

Typical Workaround

The module's web interface will not display after a user configures the subnet mask to 255.255.255.254 on the System Settings page.

If the subnet mask was configured incorrectly, you may set the subnet mask to its correct value using AOP.

The Rule Editor is a generic tool that generates discovery rule files for FactoryTalk Historian ME. The Rule Editor only supports RSLinx Enterprise and RSLinx Classic data server types.

Because the module collects data from the backplane of a controller, rules based in Human-Machine Interface (HMI) or OLE for Process Control (OPC) servers will be disregarded by FactoryTalk Historian ME discovery mechanism. Only use RSLinx Enterprise and RSLinx Classic data server types.

Exporting data to Microsoft (MS) Office Excel file may result in an overwritten file if an existing MS Excel file is already open.

When exporting data to MS Excel, ensure that no Excel files are open. Save open files to your client computer before exporting data to new Excel file.

Output (write-back) tags with the DECREMENT condition may still get data when the trigger changes with increment.

If you define a trigger=2 in the Extended Description field of the Point Property page, you cannot define a condition after it. To specify a condition, use EVENT=2.

Transferring points from FactoryTalk Historian ME to FactoryTalk Historian SE may take longer than expected due to invalid point configurations, slow scan rates, or points that update infrequently.

To resolve this issue, do one or more of the following:
· Modify the point configurations. · Increase the scan rates. · Change the Exception Max or
Compress Max values.

· Manually remove the point from Data Transfer.

As a best practice, validate tag configurations and avoid, or fix, invalid configurations. Tags that do not change frequently and that use exception max and/or compression max values should be configured so that events are forced into the archive at reasonable intervals.

Description

Typical Workaround

Moving the controller from one slot to a new slot can cause bad quality data because the controller slot number is part of the tag name.

To resolve this issue, do one of the following:
· Manually change each point's configuration in the Point Property page.

· If you have FactoryTalk Historian SE installed, export points to the System Management Tools (SMT) plug-in and update the instrument tag with the new controller slot number.

In rare cases, Data Transfer can cause the module to fail and stop collecting new data if the target FactoryTalk Historian SE server's disk is full and unable to create new event queue or archive files.

To avoid this issue, monitor FactoryTalk Historian SE to ensure that it does not run out of disk space. You can clean up the disk and/or add more disk space. Also check if your current archive configuration requires modification.

When the module's chassis is subject to multiple rapid power cycles, the module may not initialize properly.

If this occurs, power cycle the chassis once again. If the module is still unable to initialize properly, upgrade the module firmware using the ControlFlash kit.

Never delete the FTMEScanRateDefinition tag or other system-generated tags with names such as "bae9cf24-c8b3-46c0-ad5d-a64 df2174ed9" and values such as "No Data". The FTMEScanRateDefinition tag contains scan class definitions. If it is deleted, all scan class definitions will be removed. Deleting other system generated tags will cause the System Log to overflow with error messages.

Restore your module configuration using a backup configuration file. If you do not have a backup configuration file, go to the Restore Defaults page (or AOP) and restore the module to its original configuration.

Do not configure the IP address of FactoryTalk Historian ME module in the ethernet devices driver in RSLinx Classic.

The module will not automatically appear in the Ethernet/IP driver.

Internet Explorer (IE) v8 is not Use IE v6 or IE v7. a supported browser due to known incompatibilities.
