This guide provides instructions for setting up your Night Owl Wired NVR Security System.

Night Owl Technical Support
For technical assistance, always start at Support.NightOwlSP.com. Before contacting Night Owl Technical Support by phone, ensure the following:
- Your device is running the latest firmware version.
- Your device is registered. Download the Night Owl app, create an account, and verify it to register your device.
- You are physically present with the device powered on.
Not Connecting to the Internet?
Night Owl strongly recommends connecting your NVR to the Internet for optimal performance. If you choose not to connect, follow the on-screen prompts during the Startup Wizard. Please note that not connecting your NVR will result in:
- Manual firmware updates required to receive Technical Phone Support. The latest firmware is available on the device's support page.
- NVR registration is mandatory for Technical Phone Support.
- Inability to view your system remotely.
- A more complex password reset process.

? NOTE: If connecting to a TV or Monitor, it must have a minimum resolution of 1080p HD. Use only included Night Owl accessories, as third-party accessories may not function correctly.

Step 1: Connecting Your System
Choose one of the following setup options:
Option 1: Easy Bluetooth® Wireless Setup
This is the preferred method as it does not require a TV/Monitor for initial setup. You can complete the setup directly from the Night Owl app on your Smart Device.

Option 2: Manual Setup (TV / Monitor)
If you prefer to view your system locally on a TV/Monitor, follow this option. You will complete two initial steps before proceeding with system configuration.

Follow The Steps Below to Continue Setting up your System For Both Options
Connect Display (for Option 2): Plug one end of the included 6 ft. HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the back of the NVR. Plug the other end into your TV or Monitor. Ensure the TV/Monitor is tuned to the correct input.

Connect Mouse: Plug the USB mouse into the USB port on the back of the NVR.

Connect to Network: Plug one end of the included 6 ft. Ethernet cable into the LAN port on the back of the NVR. Plug the other end into a port on your router or network access point.
? NOTE: Night Owl recommends connecting to the Internet for the best user experience. Any working network access point can be used if the NVR is hardwired.

Connect Cameras: For each wired IP camera, insert one end of its 60 ft. Ethernet cable into a waterproof cable cover. Connect the covered end of the Ethernet cable to the camera's power cable. Then, input the other end of the Ethernet cable into an open camera port on the back of the NVR.
⚠️ BEFORE installing, connect and test each camera locally to confirm they function properly.

Connect Power: Connect the NVR power adapter to the Power Input on the rear of the NVR.

Power Up: Plug the NVR power adapter into a surge protector or Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). Some systems may beep upon booting up.
? NOTE: Make sure the UPS or surge protector is switched ON.

Step 2: Download the Night Owl App
If you are a first-time user, download the Night Owl app from the App Store or Google Play Store onto your Smart Device and verify your account. If you already have an account, you can skip this step.

Step 3: System Configuration
Now that your system's hardware is connected and you have the app set up, configure your system. Follow the steps below based on your chosen setup option.
Option 1: Easy Bluetooth® Wireless Setup
? NOTE: If a TV/Monitor is connected, setup information will appear on screen during Bluetooth® setup. A TV/Monitor is not required but can be used for viewing.
- Log in to the Night Owl app. If your device's Bluetooth® is not enabled, you will be prompted to allow access.
- The app will use Bluetooth® to find the NVR. Tap "Continue" to add the NVR to your Night Owl account.

- Name your recorder.

- The app will pair to the NVR. Once pairing is complete, finish the remainder of the Startup Wizard within the app and begin viewing your cameras.

? NOTE: Live viewing from the app requires the NVR to be connected to the Internet.
Option 2: Manual Setup (TV / Monitor)
? NOTE: Connecting your system and using the Night Owl App offers enhanced security and convenience.
- We strongly recommend connecting your NVR to the Internet to search for the latest firmware updates, which are vital for system health. If you are not connecting to the Internet, manually upgrade firmware and register your device.
- If you have not already done so, connect your NVR to a TV/Monitor using the provided HDMI cable and follow the steps in "Step 1: Connecting Your System".
- You will now begin the Startup Wizard on your TV/Monitor. When prompted with the screen shown, click "Manual Setup (not recommended)".

- Proceed through the rest of the Startup Wizard to finish setup. Once complete, click "Go to Live View" to begin viewing your cameras.

FCC Statement
