AVENAR detector 4000
FAP-/FAH-425 series
Product Description
The AVENAR detector 4000 combines standard detection methods like scattered light and temperature measurement with gas detection technology. It utilizes intelligent signal processing (ISP) to evaluate signals from optical, thermal, and chemical sensors. Alarms are triggered based on the specific characteristics of the operating area, ensuring reliable detection and reducing false alarms. The detectors are suitable for surface and flush mounting and are designed to prevent false alarms.
The AVENAR detector 4000 series offers various single-sensor and multi-sensor detectors:

System Overview
The AVENAR detector 4000 can integrate up to three sensor types: Optical (O), Dual Optical (DO), Thermal (T), and Chemical (C for CO gas). Rotary switches (R) allow for automatic or manual address setting on certain models. Programming is done via the FSP-5000-RPS software. The detectors continuously monitor and adjust their sensitivity to adapt to the environment. They are compatible with LSN advanced technology fire alarm control panels (FACPs).
Sensor Technologies
- Optical Sensor (Smoke Detector): Uses the scattered light method. A LED emits light into the measurement chamber, and smoke particles scatter this light onto a photodiode, converting it into an electrical signal.
- Thermal Sensor (Heat Detector): Employs a thermistor. It triggers an alarm if the temperature exceeds a set threshold (e.g., 54°C or 69°C) or if the temperature rises rapidly (thermal differential).
- Chemical Sensor (Gas Sensor): Primarily detects carbon monoxide (CO) gas, but can also detect hydrogen (H) and nitrogen oxides (NO). It works by CO oxidation.
Features
- Self-monitoring of sensors.
- Automatic adjustment of threshold values for optical sensor contamination (drift compensation).
- Automatic adjustment of threshold values for chemical sensor contamination (drift compensation).
- High EMC immunity (up to 50 V/m).
- Protection against short circuits in the LSN loop.
- Identification of detectors on the FACP.
- Programmable sensitivity.
- Evaluation of transient fire and interference variables for increased detection reliability and false alarm immunity.
- Remote indicator activation possible.
- Locking clips to prevent unauthorized access.
- Dust-protected labyrinth and cover.
- Compliant with EN 54, EN 50131, and VdS guidelines.

Installation and Configuration Notes
When planning for multi-sensor fire detectors, follow the guidelines for optical detectors (refer to DIN VDE 0833 Part 2 and VDS 2095). Key parameters include:
- Maximum monitoring area: 120 m².
- Maximum mounting height: 16 m.
For planning where optical sensors may need to be temporarily deactivated, follow guidelines for heat detectors (refer to DIN VDE 0833 Part 2 and VDS 2095):
- Maximum monitoring area: 40 m².
- Maximum mounting height: 7.5 m.
- Maximum permissible air velocity: 20 m/s.
Important Notes:
- The AVENAR detector 4000 Automatic Fire Detectors are not designed for outdoor use.
- Ensure that each detector receives a minimum operating voltage of 15 V DC by considering the total current and line resistance during planning.
- Operating temperature range: -10°C to +55°C when used with AVENAR all-in-one 4000.
Programming
Programming is performed using the FSP-5000-RPS software. The detector is programmed based on its operating area. Different operating modes can be selected, allowing individual sensors to be deactivated. Sensitivity levels for optical sensors can be adjusted to three levels for optimal performance.
Programming Examples
- FAP-425-DOTC-R and FAP-425-DOTCO-R: Default setting is 'Hotel room/smoking room'. Various configurations are available for different environments like offices, server rooms, garages, etc., specifying sensitivity settings for optical, thermal, and chemical sensors.
- FAP-425-DOT-R, FAP-425-OT-R, FAP-425-OT: Default setting is 'Office day mode'. Various configurations are available for different environments.
- FAP-425-DO-R, FAP-425-O-R, FAP-425-O: Default setting is 'Medium'. Various configurations are available.
- FAH-425-T-R: Default setting is A2R. Various sensitivity categories (A2R, A2S, A1R, A1, BR, BS) are defined based on temperature, rate of rise, and height.
Connections
Detector bases are mounted using two screws, approximately 55 mm apart. Ensure a flat and dry mounting surface. Cable entry points are available for surface and flush mounting. Locking clips prevent unauthorized removal of the detector head.
MS 400/MS 400 B Connection
Standard detector bases with seven screw terminals.
FAA-MSR 420 Connection
Base with a changeover contact relay. Maximum contact load: 62.5 VA (125 V AC, 0.5 A) or 30 W (30 V DC, 1 A).
Detector Head Mounting
The detector head is placed onto the base and turned clockwise until it locks. Locking clips secure the head.
Detector Removal
For detectors with unlocked heads, turn counter-clockwise and lift off the base. For locked heads, insert a screwdriver into the release opening (Y) to unlock before turning.
Address Setting
Models with automatic and manual address setting have three rotary switches. These switches are used to set the address and operating mode (e.g., advanced LSN mode, classic LSN mode). Automatic address assignment by the fire panel requires all detectors to have address '0 0 0'. For classic LSN panels, the address should be 'CL 0 0'. Manual address setting involves using the rotary switches for units, tens, and hundreds digits. Addresses up to 254 are permitted.
Remote Indicator Mounting
Instructions are provided for mounting the FAA-420-RI-ROW and FAA-420-RI-DIN remote indicators.
