Lutron Athena System User Guide
This document provides comprehensive information regarding the Lutron Athena System, including its purpose, features, setup, connectivity, app usage, programming capabilities, and operational maintenance. Athena is a flexible, all-in-one solution that integrates advanced lighting, intelligent shades, and connected applications to deliver a holistic light experience. It is an evolving solution that receives frequent updates and improvements when connected to the internet, adding new features, bug fixes, and security enhancements. For the most up-to-date information, visit: Lutron Athena Overview For system architecture and device details, see: Athena System Architecture PDF Athena systems are commissioned by a Lutron Field Service Engineer (FSE) using Lutron Designer software. Athena systems utilize connected processor/gateway devices that communicate via a system Ethernet lighting control network. Internet access is required for system startup and highly recommended for ongoing usage. The network can be cloud-enabled via an included LTE modem module or interfaced with an existing building IT network. Without internet access, the Athena hub will not receive automatic firmware updates and will not be accessible via the Lutron app. Lutron provides an LTE modem module for out-of-the-box cloud connectivity during system start-up. This ensures secure and seamless start-up, software updates, remote service/support, and easy connectivity without advanced network configuration. The LTE modem is intended for start-up use only and not for long-term internet access. Lutron recommends connecting Athena processors to an internet connection that supports outbound requests for ongoing connectivity. The Lutron app, available on the Apple App Store, allows users to connect to an Athena system via the cloud or local network. It enables control and monitoring of lighting, as well as system/scene programming changes. The Lutron app offers a streamlined workflow for lighting designers to adjust scenes in any area. Features include quick cloud connection, area identification, scene previewing, real-time adjustment of light levels (intensity, color temperature, full color, vibrancy for Ketra), fade, and delay settings. Designers can save settings to scenes, utilize a fine-tuning mode for incremental changes, and perform precise adjustments using text entry. Athena systems are associated with a single Lutron account. Future updates will allow multiple users to access a single Athena system with individual myLutron accounts. Athena system software can be updated via the cloud for new features and improvements. Some new features may require on-site setup. Systems without internet access can be updated by a Lutron FSE. If the Athena system is internet-connected, it can be accessed via the Lutron app from any device with an internet connection. For more information, visit www.lutron.com/athenalTguide. Lutron can remotely gather diagnostic information (with permission) for internet-connected Athena systems to resolve issues without an on-site visit. The Athena system's cloud connection enables cloud-based integrations, such as voice control with third-party systems. Initial system programming is created using Lutron Designer software. Many changes can be made using the Lutron app. Each area can have up to 16 scenes plus an OFF scene. Area scenes are created in Lutron Designer and can be modified with the Lutron app. Keypad wall controls and Pico wireless controls are configured in Lutron Designer to activate scenes or perform other functions. Timeclocks can be created in Lutron Designer or the Lutron app. The app allows editing of event names, times, days, lighting intensity, and CCT/Full Color for Ketra loads. Advanced settings like occupancy are not editable via the app. Occupancy programming and select sensor settings are defined in Lutron Designer. Load shed (demand response) is configured in Lutron Designer and can be tested by an FSE. It can be activated via the Athena Automated Demand Response Kit. Daylighting settings are defined in Lutron Designer. Device replacement is performed in Lutron Designer by a Lutron FSE. System expansion (adding devices/areas) is performed in Lutron Designer by a Lutron FSE. Shade limit settings are adjusted in Lutron Designer. Lighting device trim settings are adjusted in Lutron Designer. Emergency lighting settings are defined in Lutron Designer.
