Trek Commuter Pro RT and Bontrager Flare RT Bike Lights

This document provides information on the Trek Commuter Pro RT front bike light and the Bontrager Flare RT rear bike light.

About This Product

The Commuter Pro RT features an anti-glare beam designed to direct light precisely where needed, avoiding oncoming traffic. It offers daytime visibility up to 2km. The Bontrager Flare RT serves as a safety rear daytime running light. Both lights are rechargeable and can be controlled remotely when paired with the Transmitr Micro Remote.

Warnings

  • WARNING: The front light is very bright. Do not stare directly at an operating front light, as it may be harmful to the eyes.
  • WARNING: The front light may become hot and could cause burns or damage to materials it contacts. Do not activate the light in an enclosed area.
  • WARNING: Do not use if the battery has been impacted. Do not puncture, crush, deform, disassemble, or heat a lithium-ion battery above the permitted temperature. Damage to the battery can result in fire, explosion, or contact with lithium dust.

IMPORTANT: Check local lighting laws. Flashing lights and full brightness may not be permitted everywhere. These lights do not conform to German road traffic regulations (StVZO).

Safety Note

A bicycle without correct lights and reflectors can be difficult for others to see, and you may not be able to see them. This can lead to accidents. Ensure your lights are set up correctly, operating properly, and batteries are charged.

Commuter Pro RT: Basic Operation

  1. To turn on, double-click the power button. The power button will illuminate.
  2. To turn off, press and hold the power button for 1 second.
  3. To change modes, single-click the power button to cycle through: High beam > Low beam > Day Flash.

The power button indicates the mode: Blue solid for High beam, White solid for Low beam, and White pulse for Day Flash. If wireless is enabled, the power button will flash blue before indicating the mode.

Enable/Disable Flash Bypass Mode

For night riding, disable flash mode to easily switch between steady modes. With the light on, press and hold the power button for 8 seconds. Release the button after the flash. This changes the light to steady modes; a single click will alternate between High beam and Low beam only.

Charge-out Feature

The Commuter Pro RT can function as a backup battery. To enable: Turn the light off, then press and hold the power button for 8 seconds. Release when the main light flashes once. Connect a USB-C cable from the Commuter Pro RT to the device to charge. The light must be in charge-out mode before connecting the cable. The left light row shows the Commuter Pro RT's battery life; the right row flashes to indicate power sharing. To exit charge-out mode, unplug the external device and single-click the power button; the right light row will stop blinking.

Pairing Feature

The Commuter Pro RT can wirelessly pair with other Trek/Bontrager RT lights. To pair: Turn the Commuter Pro RT ON, place the other light nearby. Press and hold the Commuter Pro RT power button for 15 seconds (release after the second flash at 15 seconds). The button LED will flash red and blue while searching. Pairing stops when the other light flashes on and off. To control a paired light: Double-click the Commuter Pro RT to turn it on, press and hold for 1 second to turn it off. Use the Commuter Pro RT to turn on the paired light, then use the button on the paired light to change its mode. Turn the paired light off using the Commuter Pro RT.

To disable a paired light: Turn the Commuter Pro RT ON, ensure the paired light is not nearby. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds (it becomes unpaired after 10 seconds).

Reset

To reset to factory default settings: With the light plugged in to charge, press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Release the button after the second flash (at 8 and 15 seconds).

Battery Charging and Care

Both lights are charged prior to packaging but should be charged before first use. For best results, charge at room temperature in a dry place using a certified CE or UL approved USB-C cable rated for 2 Amps or greater. Avoid extreme conditions (wet, cold, heat).

If the main button indicator flashes red while plugged in, the light is too hot or too cold to charge. Charging will commence when the light is between 32°F (0°C) and 104°F (40°C).

If the light is plugged in while on, it will automatically turn off (indicated by 3 red flashes). Attempting to turn the light on while charging will not work (indicated by 3 red flashes).

  1. Open the USB port cover.
  2. Plug the USB-C cable into the light's USB port.
  3. Plug the cable into a wall adapter.
  4. When charging is complete, unplug the cable and close the USB port cover.

IMPORTANT: Ensure the USB cover is latched before riding in wet conditions to prevent damage to the light.

*Fully charged, the status LED will be solid for 1 minute then turn off.

Low Battery Feature

  • Commuter Pro RT: Left row shows one red light below 20%, one red light flashing at 5% or below. Modes and settings may be disabled when below 5%.
  • Flare RT: Indicator LED flashes red when the battery is below 5%.

Caring for the Battery

  • Store the light at room temperature in a dry place, avoiding moisture, extreme heat, or cold.
  • Store the light in a charged condition; storing it fully discharged will decrease battery life.
  • Battery runtime diminishes over time; expect approximately 500 full charges depending on care. After its full life, the battery will still charge but with reduced runtime. Do not open the case or incinerate; please recycle.

Traveling with the Battery

When traveling by air, verify with your carrier the requirements for lithium-ion batteries of this capacity. They often need to be packed in carry-on luggage.

Protection

These lights are designed and tested for all riding conditions with ingress ratings of IPX4 (Commuter Pro RT) and IPX7 (Flare RT). They are not intended for outdoor storage and should be stored indoors after use.

Recycling

Please recycle the light with its battery. In the US, find recycling locations at www.call2recycle.org. For European and International consumers, contact your local bike shop. Products marked with this symbol should not be mixed with general household waste. Take them to designated collection points for proper treatment, recovery, and recycling. Correct disposal helps conserve resources and prevent negative environmental or health effects.
