Overview
The Lutron Energi Savr Node (ESN) family comprises modular products designed for lighting and other load control. This document details the ESN unit for 0-10V control (models QSN-4T16-S) and the Softswitch ESN unit (models QSN-4S16-S).

Softswitch Operation
The Softswitch relay is rated for 16 A continuous use. Its patented circuit prevents arcing, extending relay life to an average of 1,000,000 cycles. The relay is mechanically held.
0-10 V Product Ratings (QSN-4T16-S)
- Each output sinks up to 50 mA maximum.
- Load device must provide 10 V supply.
- Provides an IEC PELV/NEC® Class 2 isolated 0-10 V output signal conforming to IEC 60929.
Occupancy Sensors
- Up to 16 occupancy sensors can be programmed to the ESN device.
- Sensors can be wired directly to the ESN, to a QS Sensor Module (QSM), or wirelessly through a QSM.
- Programming can be done manually via the ESN unit, or using an Apple iPod touch/iPhone with the ESN Programming Interface.
- Lutron occupancy sensors can control one or more zones and operate in vacancy mode to automatically turn off lights when an area becomes vacant.
- Each wired occupancy input can power one Lutron occupancy sensor.
- Occupancy sensors can be programmed to automatically turn lights on when occupied and off when vacant.
- Occupancy sensor must provide a dry contact closure or solid-state output.
seeTouch QS Controls
- seeTouch QS wallstations can be configured to control ESN unit scenes or zones.
- Zone toggle mode allows zone buttons to control one or more zones on any ESN unit connected to the QS Link.
- Scene mode allows wallstations to be assigned to one or more ESN units connected to the QS Link.
- An LED indicator displays zone or scene status.
- Table 1 provides seeTouch QS Wallstation Configurations for different button counts and functions.
IR Wallstation or Receiver Input
- Four inputs for IR receivers or wallstations for lighting zone control.
- Lutron CC-4BRL-WH wallstations and EC-DIR-WH ceiling-mount sensors can be used.
- Up to four additional wired wallstations or IR receivers can be assigned with a QSM.
- Associate additional QSMs and sensors/controls with the ESN unit when programming with an Apple iPod touch or iPhone.
Daylight Sensors
- Lutron daylight sensors enable daylight harvesting with programmable light output effects.
- Up to four daylight sensors can be connected directly to the ESN unit.
- Lutron EC-DIR-WH sensors can control one or more zones.
- Alternatively, up to four sensors (Lutron Wired Daylight Sensors or Radio Powr Savr Daylight Sensors) can be assigned when associated with a QSM.
- The maximum number of Lutron daylight sensors (wired or wireless) that can be associated with a QSM or connected directly to the ESN unit is four.
- Associate additional QSMs and sensors/controls with the ESN unit when programming with an Apple iPod touch or iPhone.
Contact Closure Input (CCI)
- Activates scenes using momentary or maintained closures from external devices like timeclocks.
- Can start or stop Afterhours Mode with a maintained closure.
- Requires a dry contact closure or solid-state output from the attached device.
- Configurable for Normally-Open (NO) or Normally-Closed (NC) operation.
- Input is miswire-protected up to 36 V-.
Emergency Contact Closure Input
- By default, contact closure input from Lutron Emergency Lighting Interface (LUT-ELI-3PH), security, or fire alarm systems turns all zones on to full output when an emergency state is detected.
- The input is normally closed (NC) and ships with a jumper pre-installed.
- Response of each zone is configurable.
- Attached devices will go to maximum output and ignore control inputs by default.
- No operations will be allowed until the emergency signal is cleared.
- Requires a dry contact closure or solid-state output from the attached device.
- Input is miswire-protected up to 36 V-.
- Emergency CCI cannot control other ESN units.
Functionality with GRAFIK Eye QS
- ESN unit follows GRAFIK Eye QS scene activations.
- Responds to commands from the GRAFIK Eye QS astronomic time clock.
- Operates in afterhours mode when associated with a GRAFIK Eye QS in afterhours mode.
Functionality with QSE-IO
- ESN unit responds to scene commands initiated by the QSE-IO when its DIP switches are set for scene selection, zone toggle, partition, or occupancy sensor mode.
Functionality with QSE-CI-NWK-E
- Integrates ESN unit with touchscreens, PCs, A/V systems, or other digital systems.
- Allows recall of scenes and setting/adjustment of zone levels.
IEC PELV/NEC® Class 2 Dry Contact Switches
- Four inputs for IEC PELV/NEC® Class 2 dry contact switches can be assigned to control one or more zones.
- Configurable for momentary or maintained operation.
QS Link Limits
- Each ESN unit provides up to 14 Power Draw Units (PDUs) for other QS devices. Refer to Lutron P/N 369405 for details.
- The QS Link supports up to 100 devices and 100 zones.
- Each ESN unit counts as 1 device and 4 zones towards these limits.
QSM (QS Sensor Module)
- Used to integrate Radio Powr Savr Occupancy sensors, Radio Powr Savr Daylight sensors, and Pico Wireless Controllers to control zones on the ESN unit.
- One QSM can be associated per ESN unit with manual programming.
- Multiple QSMs can be associated per ESN unit with Apple iPod touch or iPhone programming (requires QSE-CI-AP-D and Wi-Fi router).
- Up to 10 Radio Powr Savr Occupancy sensors, 4 Radio Powr Savr Daylight sensors, and 10 Pico Wireless Controllers can be assigned per ESN unit via QSM.
- Sensors and Pico Wireless Controllers associated with the QSM should be mounted within 60 ft (18 m) line of sight, or 30 ft (9 m) through walls, of the QSM.
- Wire and power up to 4 wired sensors per QSM for Daylight Sensors, Occupancy Sensors, and IR Receivers or Wallstations.
Programming Options
Manual Programming
- Use buttons on the front of the ESN unit.
- Suitable for installations with only one ESN unit and one QSM or fewer on the QS link.
HHD Programming
- Requires ESN Programming Interface (QSE-CI-AP-D).
- Requires an Apple iPod touch or iPhone mobile digital device.
- Uses an intuitive programming application for systems with multiple ESN units and QSMs on the QS link.
- A wireless router is required for programming with an Apple iPod touch or iPhone.
