1. Connect to a Computer
Option 1: Direct Connection
Plug the USB adapter directly into a USB port on your computer.
Note for Windows XP/Vista: If a 'Found New Hardware Wizard' window appears when the adapter is detected, click 'Cancel'.
Option 2: Using a USB Extension Cable
Connect the adapter to your computer using the included USB extension cable. This can be useful for optimal placement.
2. Install the Driver
For Windows Users
1. Insert the CD that came with the adapter into your computer's CD/DVD drive and run the 'Autorun.exe' file. Alternatively, download the latest driver from the TP-Link support website at www.tp-link.com.
2. Select your adapter and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
Troubleshooting: If you encounter issues during driver installation, try disabling your antivirus software and firewall temporarily, then attempt installation again.
For Mac OS X Users
1. Download the driver and utility software from the TP-Link support page at www.tp-link.com.
2. Unzip the downloaded folder and run the 'Install.pkg' file.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the installation.
3. Connect to a Wireless Network
For Windows Users
Option 1: Using the Windows Wireless Utility
Click the network icon (usually found in the taskbar) to open the network list.
Select your Wi-Fi network, click 'Connect', and enter the Wi-Fi password when prompted.
Option 2: Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)
If your adapter lacks a WPS button, skip this method.
1. Press the WPS button on your router.
2. Within 2 minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the USB adapter until the WPS tool or setup window appears.
3. A "Success!" message will confirm your computer is connected to the Wi-Fi network.
For Mac OS X Users
Option 1: Using the TP-Link Utility
Click the TP-Link Utility icon in the menu bar or select the 'Site Survey' tab in the utility's pop-up window.
Choose your Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi password when prompted.
Option 2: Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)
If your adapter lacks a WPS button, skip this method.
1. Press the WPS button on your router.
2. Within 2 minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the USB adapter until the WPS setup window appears.
3. A message like "WPS Protocol Finished" or "PBC - Get WPS profile successfully" indicates a successful connection.
