TP-Link Wireless Dual-Band Router

Setup Assistance

Router Mode

If your internet connection comes from an Ethernet outlet, connect the router's WAN port to it. Follow the subsequent steps to complete the hardware connection.

To configure this router as an access point and extend your network, refer to the "Access Point Mode" section.

Hardware Connection

? Important: Unplug your modem and remove its backup battery if it has one.

  1. Connect the powered-off modem to the router's WAN port using an Ethernet cable.

  2. Connect the power adapter to the router and then to a power socket.

  3. Power on the modem and wait approximately 2 minutes for it to restart.

Verify that the following LEDs stay solid on to confirm the hardware is connected correctly:

Note: If the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz LEDs are off, press and hold the WPS/Wi-Fi button on the rear panel for about 5 seconds, then release it. Both LEDs should turn on.

Configure the Router

  1. Connect your computer to the router:

    • Wired: Turn off your computer's Wi-Fi and connect it to the router using an Ethernet cable.
    • Wireless:
      • Locate the product label on the bottom of the router.
      • Use the default network names (SSIDs) and password to join the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network.
      • Tip: For smartphones or tablets, scan the QR code on the label to join the preset 2.4 GHz network directly.

  2. Launch a web browser and enter http://tplinkwifi.net or http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar. Create a password to log in.

    Note: If the login window does not appear, refer to FAQ > Q1.

  3. Run the Quick Setup, select "Wireless Router", and follow the step-by-step instructions to set up your internet connection.

Access Point Mode

In this mode, the router transforms your existing wired network into a wireless one.

  1. Power on the router.
  2. Connect the router's WAN port to your wired router's Ethernet port via an Ethernet cable.
  3. Connect a computer to the router via an Ethernet cable or wirelessly using the SSID and Wireless Password printed on the router's label.
  4. Launch a web browser and enter http://tplinkwifi.net. Create a password to log in.
  5. Run the Quick Setup, select "Access Point", and follow the on-screen instructions to set up the internet connection.

Range Extender Mode

In this mode, the router boosts the existing wireless coverage in your home.

1. Configure

  1. Place the router next to your host router and power it on.
  2. Connect a computer to the router via an Ethernet cable or wirelessly using the SSID and Wireless Password printed on the router's label.
  3. Launch a web browser and enter http://tplinkwifi.net. Create a password to log in.
  4. Run the Quick Setup, select "Range Extender", and follow the on-screen instructions to set up the internet connection.

2. Relocate

Place the router about halfway between your host router and the Wi-Fi "dead" zone. The location must be within the range of your existing host network.

Button Explanation

BUTTONDESCRIPTION
WPS/Wi-FiPress and hold for 1 second to enable the WPS function. Press and hold for about 5 seconds to turn the wireless function of the router on or off.
ResetPress and hold this button until all LEDs turn off to reset the router to its factory default settings.

Tether App

The TP-Link Tether app offers a simple, intuitive way to access and manage your router. Scan the QR code to download the Tether app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q1. What can I do if the login window does not appear?
  1. Reboot your router and try again.
  2. If your computer is set to a static IP address, change the setting to obtain an IP address automatically.
  3. Verify that http://tplinkwifi.net is correctly entered in the web browser. Alternatively, enter http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 and press Enter.
  4. Use another web browser and try again.
  5. Disable then re-enable the network adapter being used.
Q2. What can I do if I cannot access the internet?
  1. Reboot your modem and router, then try again.
  2. Check if the internet is working by connecting a computer directly to the modem via an Ethernet cable. If not, contact your internet service provider.
  3. Log in to the router's web management page, go to the Status page, and check if the WAN IP address is valid. If it is, run Quick Setup again; otherwise, recheck the hardware connection.
  4. For cable modem users: Log in to the router's web management page, go to Network > MAC Clone, click "Clone MAC Address", click "Save", then reboot both the modem and the router.
Q3. How do I restore the router to its factory default settings?
  1. While the router is powered on, press and hold the Reset button on the rear panel until all LEDs turn off, then release the button.
  2. Log in to the router's web management page, go to System Tools > Factory Defaults, and click "Restore". The router will restore and reboot automatically.
Q4. What can I do if I forgot my web management password?
Refer to FAQ > Q3 to reset the router, then create a new password to log in.
Q5. What can I do if I forgot my wireless network password?
  1. The factory default Wireless Password/PIN is printed on the product label of the router.
  2. Connect a computer to the router via an Ethernet cable. Log in to the router's web management page, go to Wireless 2.4GHz (or Wireless 5GHz) > Wireless Security to view or reset your wireless password.
