Set Up Your Smart Device via Matter
This is a Matter-certified device, allowing integration into preferred Matter ecosystems like Alexa, Google, and Apple for easy control. Setup processes and user experiences are expected to improve over time.
Before You Start:
- Matter Controller: Required to connect and manage Matter devices on your home network (e.g., Apple TV, HomePod). Refer to TP-Link Matter-enabled Devices FAQ for details.
- Reset Your Device: Ensure a fresh start. For most devices, press and hold the 'Reset' button for 10 seconds.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your Matter controller (use 2.4 GHz if separate).
- Access Matter Setup Mode: This mode is active for 15 minutes after power-up. Turn the device off and on again to re-enter setup mode.
- Locate Matter Setup Code: Find the QR code or numeric code on the device or packaging.
- Matter Code Usage: The original code is for one-time setup per app. Generate new codes for multiple apps after initial setup or device reset.
How to Set Up:
Setup processes may vary between different apps.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
- Open your smart home app and scan the Matter QR code or input the numeric code.
- Connect your device to the same network as your controller.
- Follow the in-app instructions to complete setup.
Failed to Set Up?
Troubleshoot common setup issues:
- Update Firmware: Ensure your Matter hub and Smart Home app firmware are up-to-date.
- Restart: Power cycle your device and controller. Restart your smartphone and clear its smart home app cache.
- Check IPv6: Ensure IPv6 is activated on your router. See TP-Link FAQ for IPv6 guidance.
- Enable Setup Mode: Restart your device to re-enter setup mode, as Bluetooth turns off after 15 minutes.
- Matter Code Usage: The original Matter code is for single-app setup. Generate new codes for additional apps after device reset or initial setup.
- Code-Generating Page: Do not close the pairing code-generating page during multi-admin setup. If accidentally closed, try reopening; otherwise, restart the device and generate a new code.
- Factory Reset: Try a factory reset. For most devices: press and hold the 'Reset' button for 10 seconds. For smart bulbs: cycle power five times with 2-second pauses.
- Existing Ecosystem: If the device is already in another ecosystem, obtain a new setup code as per the FAQ on integrating devices into other ecosystems.
If problems persist, try a factory reset or use another smartphone for configuration.
