EXPERTPOWER EP48100 PBMS Tools Connection and Monitoring Guide
Introduction
This document provides instructions for connecting the EXPERTPOWER EP48100 battery system to a computer and monitoring it using the PBMS Tools software. It covers the necessary materials, cable preparation, software setup, and basic monitoring procedures.
Required Materials
- USB to RS485 converter
- Cat5/Cat6 Cable
- RJ45 Connector
- Wire stripper (24 gauge opening recommended)
- RJ45 crimper
- BMS Tools Software
Alternatively, an ANSI/TIA-568B RJ45 Cat5/Cat6 premade cable can be used.
Cable Preparation
If creating a custom cable, follow the ANSI/TIA-568B standard for crimping the Cat5/Cat6 cable to the RJ45 connector and the five-pin connector on the RS485 side. The middle pin on the five-pin connector should be left empty.
Diagram Description: The diagram illustrates the wiring for a five-pin terminal block (labeled T/R+, T/R-, RXD+, RXD-, GND) and an RJ45 connector. It shows the connection of specific colored wires (Orange, Orange/White, Green, Green/White, Brown) to the corresponding terminals on the five-pin connector, indicating the standard pinout for RS485 communication.
PBMS Tools Software Setup
The PBMS Tools software is typically found in a folder named BmsTools HS2.0.3
, with the executable file being BmsTools.exe
.

folder, highlighting the BmsTools.exe
application file.
Software Interface and Configuration
The PBMS Tools software interface provides various monitoring and configuration options through tabs such as 'Realtime Monitoring', 'Parameter Setting', and 'System Config.'.
Diagram Description: The software's main window displays sections for 'Serial Port' configuration, 'Pack Information', 'Temperature' readings, 'Cell Voltage' readings, 'System Status', 'Alarm Status', 'Fault Status', 'Protect Status', and 'Switch Control'.
- Serial Port Configuration: Set the COM Type to RS485, Baud Rate to 9600. The
ADR_Start
setting, initially at 0, must be changed to1
. TheADR_End
andInterval
can also be configured. - Diagram Description: A red arrow in a screenshot points to the dropdown menu for
ADR_Start
, indicating the required change from 0 to 1. - Initiating Connection: After configuring the serial port settings, click the 'Open' button to establish communication with the EP48100 battery system.
- Diagram Description: The 'Open' button is highlighted in a screenshot, showing where to click after setting up the serial port.
Monitoring the EP48100 Battery
Once the connection is successfully established, the 'Realtime Monitoring' tab displays live data from the EP48100 Battery. This includes key parameters such as:
- Pack Voltage and Current
- State of Charge (SOC) and State of Health (SOH)
- Battery Cycle Count
- Temperatures (ENV_T, MOS_T, Tcell 1-16)
- Individual Cell Voltages (Vcell 1-16)
- System Status (e.g., CHARGING, DISCHARGING)
- Alarm and Fault Status
- Protection Status
Diagram Description: A screenshot of the 'Realtime Monitoring' tab shows sample data for the EP48100 Battery, including specific values for pack voltage, current, SOC, SOH, and cell temperatures/voltages.
