1.2 Product Overview

The Waves Signature Series is an exclusive line of application-specific audio processors, created in collaboration with top producers, engineers, and mixing engineers. Each Signature Series plugin is precision-crafted to capture the artist's distinct sound and production style. For both experienced and aspiring audio professionals, the Waves Signature Series allows quick dialing of desired sounds without interrupting creative flow.

Four-time GRAMMY® award-winning mixing engineer Manny Marroquin elevates the Waves Signature Series with six hybrid plugins, bringing his unique workflow to your studio. Alongside personalized versions of favorites like EQ, reverb, delay, and distortion, Manny introduces the innovative Tone Shaper and Triple D plugins, poised to become mixing essentials. Combining inspiration from his collection of unique and boutique hardware with his creative vision, the Manny Marroquin Signature Series provides direct access to the tools Manny uses to mix hit after hit.

The Manny Marroquin Signature Series consists of six plugins:

  • Manny Marroquin EQ – A four-band equalizer, with each cutoff point inspired by a different hardware unit Manny uses.
  • Manny Marroquin Reverb – Features 18 of Manny's favorite reverbs in one plugin, with added EQ, compression, phasing, and distortion.
  • Manny Marroquin Delay – A delay plus multi-effect plugin with phaser, reverb, distortion, and harmonizer for enhanced depth and groove.
  • Manny Marroquin Distortion – A crunchy-style distortion for adding grit.
  • Manny Marroquin Triple D – Features 3 “Ds” (DeEsser, DeHarsher, DeBoxy) to easily remove unpleasant frequencies.
  • Manny Marroquin Tone Shaper – Offers parallel compression across four frequency ranges, plus EQ and 'secret ingredients' for added body and richness.

1.3 Concepts, Terminology & Interface

The plugin interface includes three main processing sections:

  1. DeBoxy Section: Includes bypass, threshold, frequency, listening control, and attenuation meter for DeBoxy processing.
  2. DeHarsher Section: Includes bypass, threshold, frequency, listening control, and attenuation meter for DeHarsher processing.
  3. DeEsser Section: Includes bypass, threshold, frequency, listening control, and attenuation meter for DeEsser processing.

The plugin also features a WaveSystem Toolbar at the top for saving/loading presets, comparing settings, undo/redo steps, and resizing. For more information, click the icon in the upper-right corner to open the WaveSystem Guide.

1.4 A Few Words from Manny Marroquin

“Getting rid of 'boxy' sound, harshness, and sibilance can be challenging, especially when aiming to avoid simply EQing out frequency ranges. The Triple D plugin simplifies the removal of these unpleasant frequencies. The name 'Triple D' comes from its functions: DeBoxy for low-mid 'boxy' sound, DeHarsher for mid/high-mid harshness, and DeEsser for high 'sss' and 'shh' sounds. Triple D makes achieving desired vocal sounds effortless.”

1.5 Components

WaveShell technology allows Waves processors to be split into smaller plugins called components. Choosing components offers flexibility in configuring the processor for specific material.

The Waves MannyM TripleD plugin has two components:

  • MannyM TripleD – Mono
  • MannyM TripleD – Stereo

1.6 WaveSystem Toolbar

Use the bar at the top of the plugin to save and load presets, compare settings, undo and redo steps, and resize the plugin. To learn more, click the icon at the upper-right corner of the window and open the WaveSystem Guide.

Chapter 2 – Controls

Input

INPUT controls the level into the plugin. Range: -18 – 18 dB.

DeBoxy Controls

  • DeBOXY THRESHOLD: Determines the threshold above which the signal is attenuated. Range: 0 – 100 (0 = no attenuation, 100 = maximum threshold/maximum attenuation).
  • DeBOXY FREQUENCY: Determines the frequency range to be attenuated. Range: 0 – 100 (0 = 200 Hz center; 100 = 1 kHz center).
  • DeBOXY LISTEN: Plays the signal through the DeBoxy filter, useful for fine-tuning the “boxy” frequency range.
  • DeBOXY BYPASS: Bypasses the DeBoxy process. When Listen is selected, the DeBoxy process is bypassed, but the unfiltered signal for that range is heard.
  • DeBOXY ATTENUATION METER: Displays the amount of attenuation per band. A meter completely “pinned down” from top to bottom indicates more than 12 dB of attenuation.

DeHarsher Controls

  • DeHARSHER THRESHOLD: Determines the threshold above which the signal is attenuated. Range: 0 – 100 (0 = no attenuation, 100 = maximum threshold/maximum attenuation).
  • DeHARSHER FREQUENCY: Determines the frequency range to be attenuated. Range: 0 – 100 (0 = 1.2 kHz center; 100 = 3 kHz center).
  • DeHARSHER LISTEN: Plays the signal through the DeHarsher filter, useful for fine-tuning the “harsh” frequency range.
  • DeHARSHER BYPASS: Bypasses the DeHarsher process. When Listen is selected, the DeHarsher process is bypassed, but the unfiltered signal for that range is heard.
  • DeHARSHER ATTENUATION METER: Displays the amount of attenuation per band. A meter completely “pinned down” from top to bottom indicates more than 12 dB of attenuation.

DeEsser Controls

  • DeESSER THRESHOLD: Determines the threshold above which the signal is attenuated. Range: 0 – 100 (0 = no attenuation, 100 = maximum threshold/maximum attenuation).
  • DeESSER FREQUENCY: Determines the frequency range to be attenuated. Range: 0 – 100 (0 = 3.5 kHz center; 100 = 12 kHz center).
  • DeESSER LISTEN: Plays the signal through the DeEsser filter, useful for fine-tuning the sibilant high frequency range.
  • DeESSER BYPASS: Bypasses the DeEsser process. When Listen is selected, the DeEsser process is bypassed, but the unfiltered signal for that range is heard.
  • DeESSER ATTENUATION METER: Displays the amount of attenuation per band. A meter completely “pinned down” from top to bottom indicates more than 12 dB of attenuation.

Output

OUTPUT controls the plugin output level. Range: -18 – 18 dB.

Signal Flow

The signal flow is Input → DeBoxy → DeHarsher → DeEsser → Output.
