Page 7: Lubrication Notes

This section provides lubrication notes for the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 10" Miter Saw, specifying the type of grease (Type 'Y', No. 49-08-5270, 6oz. tube) and detailing the application points for various assemblies.

Lubrication Instructions

  • General Note: When servicing gears or the Gear Case, 90-95% of old grease must be removed before adding new grease. Clean gear assemblies with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Motor Arm Assembly:
    • Place a heavy layer of grease on the pinion teeth of the Rotor Assembly (1).
    • Place a heavy layer of grease on the gear teeth of the 1st gear of the Intermediate Gear Assembly (2).
    • Place a heavy layer of grease on the teeth of the bevel pinion of the Intermediate Gear Assembly (3).
    • Place a heavy layer of grease on the teeth of the bevel gear of the Spindle Assembly (4).
    • Lightly coat inside axle bores at the rear of the Motor Arm Assembly (5).
  • Gear Case:
    • Place 15 grams ±1 of grease in the intermediate gear cavity of the Gear Case (6).
    • Place 5 grams ±1 of grease in the spindle gear cavity of the Gear Case (7).
  • Bevel Arm Assembly:
    • Lightly coat the back end of the Down Lock Pin and its corresponding cavity in the Bevel Arm Assembly with grease (1).
    • Apply a thin coat of grease to the surface of the Bevel Axle, ensuring it gets into the outer grooves. Lightly coat the corresponding cavities in the Bevel Arm Assembly (2).
    • Dab grease onto the detent ball and spring of the Bevel Handle Assembly (3).
    • Coat Washers with a light film of grease. Ensure rounded edges of washers face each other (4).
    • Brush a light film of grease onto the outside surface of the Bevel Arm Assembly where it contacts the Bevel Hub (5).
  • Bevel Brake Components:
    • Apply a light coat of grease to the two slotted areas (both sides) on the Detent Slider (1).
    • Apply a dab of grease to the two raised catch tabs on the Detent Spring (2).
    • Apply a light coat of grease to the two slotted areas (both sides) on the Chop Stop Slider Assembly (3).
  • Base Assembly:
    • Brush a heavy coat of grease onto the center surface of the Base as shown (1).
    • Coat the Thick Washer and the four Bevel Spring Washers with grease. Orient the parts as shown in the detail (2).

Page 8-10: Service Fixtures

These pages detail the use of specific service fixtures for adjusting the Bevel Brake and checking bevel free force. Fixtures 61-10-0415 (Bevel Handle Fixture) and 61-10-0410 (Bevel Brake Arm Fixture) are described.

Bevel Arm Adjustment Fixtures

Two service fixtures are required to set the Bevel Brake.

Bevel Handle Fixture (61-10-0415)

This fixture supports the Bevel Handle.

Bevel Brake Arm Fixture (61-10-0410)

This fixture supports the Bevel Brake Arm.

Procedure for Setting Bevel Brake:

  1. Loosen the brake cam nut to allow cable length to be set.
  2. With fixture 61-10-0410 in place, the bevel brake arm should "just" touch the bevel detent foot when it is seated in the 0° notch.
  3. Remove all slack in the brake cable and tighten the cable nut to 40-50 kg/cm (34-43 in-lbs).

Proper Adjustment of Brake Cam Nut:

After the brake cable is adjusted and clamped, the brake cam nut is to be torqued to 23-28.8 kgf.cm (20-25 in.lb.). The brake should be in the fully activated (holding) position.

Adjustment of Brake Assembly Stationary Brake Pad:

The stationary brake pad needs adjustment to compensate for position tolerances in the bevel hub and brake parts.

  1. The tall end of fixture 61-10-0415 slips under the rib in the handle and sits on the bevel arm top wall to prevent handle movement.
  2. With the brake fully released, place a 5mm hex wrench through the adjustment hole on the bevel hub and into the hex drive in the stationary brake pad.
  3. Run the brake pad down until it touches the brake disc, then back off 1/8 of a turn (45° of wrench turn).

Checking Bevel Free Force

One service fixture is required to check bevel free force (when checked after brake cable is adjusted).

  1. Tall end of fixture 61-10-0415 used to support the bevel handle to check bevel free force.
  2. The tall end slips under the rib in the handle and sits on the bevel arm top wall to prevent handle movement.

Page 11-12: Wiring Diagram

These pages detail the internal wiring of the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 10" Miter Saw, showing the routing of wires, connections for the On-Off Switch, LED Button Assembly, Rotor and Stator, Battery Connector Block, and PCBA. Notes provide guidance on wire routing, avoiding pinching wires during assembly, and specific torque for switch terminal screws.

Wiring Details

  • On-Off Switch Detail: The orientation of the ring terminals is barrel side out. Screw torque is 11-13 kg-cm (9-12 in-lbs).
  • Wire Routing: Route yellow and black wires from the Shadow Line Assembly through the hole in the Left Housing. Join the male connector to the female connector of the PCBA wires. Place yellow/black wires in the wire trap and secure behind the thick white wire.
  • Assembly Aid: Take notice of wire routing and position in wire guides and traps while dismantling the tool. Be careful and avoid pinching wires between the handle halves when assembling.
