Environmental Protection
Recycling: Do not dispose of this product with household waste at the end of its life cycle. Return it to a designated collection point for recycling electrical and electronic devices. This is indicated by the symbol ♻️ on the product, manual, or packaging. Materials are recyclable; reusing them contributes to environmental protection. Remove batteries and personal data before disposal.
Battery Disposal: Used batteries are hazardous waste and must NOT be disposed of with household waste. Return all batteries to public collection points or battery retailers for environmentally responsible recycling. Ensure batteries are fully discharged before returning. Note: Cd = cadmium, Hg = mercury, Pb = lead.
Warnings
Risk of Electric Shock: Do not open the device! ⚡ Opening the enclosure exposes you to dangerous voltages. Servicing should only be performed by qualified personnel.
Caution: Invisible Laser Radiation: This device is equipped with a Class 1 Laser. Avoid direct exposure to the laser beam, as it can cause eye injuries. Do not open the cover or press safety interlocks while the laser is active.
General Safety and Setup
- Operate only in dry indoor environments.
- Protect the device from humidity.
- This apparatus is for moderate climates; not suitable for tropical climates.
- Do not place objects filled with liquids (e.g., vases) on the device.
- Ensure the mains plug is easily accessible for disconnection.
- Connect only to a properly installed and earthed wall outlet. Verify mains voltage matches the rating plate.
- Keep the mains cable dry during operation. Do not pinch or damage the cable. Damaged cables/plugs must be replaced by authorized service.
- In case of lightning, immediately disconnect the device from the mains supply.
- Children should be supervised by parents when using the device.
- Clean only with a dry cloth. Do NOT use cleaning agents or abrasive cloths.
- Do not expose to direct sunlight or other heat sources.
- Install in a location with sufficient ventilation to prevent heat accumulation. Do not cover ventilation openings.
- Install in a safe, vibration-free location.
- Keep away from computers and microwave units to avoid radio reception interference.
- Do not open or repair the enclosure; this voids the warranty and is unsafe.
- Do not place naked flame sources (e.g., candles) on the unit.
- Save the original package for shipping.
- If malfunction occurs due to static discharge or power surges, disconnect and reconnect the power supply.
- For long periods of non-use, disconnect the power plug to avoid fire risk.
Location of Controls
Identify the controls on your Soundmaster SCD1400:
- 1. VOLUME KNOB: Adjusts the sound level.
- 2. FUNCTION SWITCH: Selects operating modes (FM, CD, OFF, AUX).
- 3. HANDLE: For carrying the device.
- 4. TUNING KNOB: Tunes radio stations.
- 5. CD DOOR: Opens to access the CD compartment.
- 6. SPEAKER: Outputs audio.
- 7. POWER INDICATOR: Shows if the unit is powered on.
- 8. LED DISPLAY / FUNCTION INDICATOR: Shows track numbers, status, etc.
- 9. PROGRAM INDICATOR: Indicates programming mode.
- 10. STOP (⏹️ ): Stops CD playback or programming.
- 11. SKIP- ( ⏪ ): Skips to the previous track.
- 12. PLAY/PAUSE ( ▶️ / ⏸️ ): Starts or pauses CD playback.
- 13. SKIP+ ( ⏩ ): Skips to the next track.
- 14. REPEAT: Sets repeat mode (single track, all tracks).
- 15. PROGRAM: Used to program CD tracks.
- 16. ANTENNA: For FM radio reception.
- 17. AUX IN JACK (3.5MM): Connect external audio devices.
- 18. BATTERY COMPARTMENT: Holds 6 x 1.5V LR14 / "C" batteries (not included).
- 19. AC SOCKET: Connects to the mains power adapter.
Operating Instructions
AC Operation
Before operating, ensure the unit's voltage matches your local power supply. Unravel the AC power cord, connect one end to the unit's AC socket, and the other to a standard wall outlet.
Attention:
- Do not plug/unplug with wet hands.
- Disconnect the power cable when not in use for extended periods.
- When disconnecting, pull the plug, not the cord, to avoid cable damage.
Battery Operation
Disconnect the AC cord completely. Open the battery compartment and insert 6 x 1.5V LR14 / "C" batteries, observing polarity.
Radio (FM)
- Set the FUNCTION switch to FM.
- Rotate the TUNING knob to find your desired station.
- Adjust volume using the VOLUME knob.
- To turn off, set the FUNCTION switch to OFF.
- Extend the FM antenna fully for best reception.
CD Mode
- Set the FUNCTION switch to CD.
- Insert a CD into the compartment and close the door. The unit will read the disc and display the total track count.
- Press the ▶️ button to start playback.
- Press the ▶️ button again to pause playback (LED indicator will blink). Press again to resume.
- Adjust volume with the VOLUME knob.
- Press ⏪ or ⏩ to skip to the previous or next track.
- Hold ⏪ or ⏩ to search quickly within a track.
- Press the ⏹️ button to stop CD playback.
Repeat Mode
- Repeat 1: Press REPEAT once. The repeat LED will flash. The current track will repeat.
- Repeat All: Press REPEAT twice. The repeat LED will stay lit. The entire disc will play continuously.
- To Cancel Repeat: Press REPEAT until the LED turns off.
Programming the CD Player
Programming should be done in STOP mode.
- Press the PROGRAM button. The LED display will show '01' and flash.
- Use the ⏪ or ⏩ buttons to select the desired track.
- Press PROGRAM again to store the track. The LED will show '02' and flash.
- Repeat steps 2-3 to store up to 20 tracks.
- Press ▶️ to play the disc in programmed order.
- Press ⏹️ to stop playback.
- To cancel the programming list, press ⏹️ and open the CD door or set the FUNCTION switch to OFF.
AUX Mode
- Switch the unit to CD mode and connect an AUX cable (not included) to the AUX IN jack. The unit will switch to AUX mode.
- Start playback on your external device and adjust volume on that device or the unit.
Important Note: Automatic Standby
In compliance with the ERP2 directive, the unit automatically switches to standby after approximately 15 minutes without a signal. To switch it back on, turn the FUNCTION switch OFF and then ON again.
