PREPARATION

CONNECTING THE ANTENNA

The supplied telescoping antenna helps your scanner receive strong local signals. To install, screw it into the hole on the top of your scanner.

The antenna's length controls its sensitivity to different frequencies. Adjust the length of the telescoping antenna as follows for best reception:

Frequency RangeAntenna Adjustment
29-54 MHzExtend Fully (3 segments)
108-174 MHzExtend (2 segments)
406-512 MHzCollapse Fully (1 segment only)

CONNECTING AN OPTIONAL ANTENNA

For better reception on all bands, a multiband outdoor antenna can be attached to your scanner. Local Radio Shack stores sell a complete line of multiband outdoor antennas for specific needs.

Follow these steps to install an outdoor antenna:

  1. Select the highest possible location to mount the antenna.
  2. Mount the antenna following the instructions that come with the antenna and its mounting hardware.
  3. Plug the antenna into the scanner's ANT jack using 50-ohm coaxial cable (RG-58, RG-8/M or RG-8). For cables longer than 50 feet, use RG-8/M or RG-8 low-loss, coaxial cable.
