How to Program Xfinity Voice Remotes (XR11, XR15, XR16)

This guide provides instructions for programming your Xfinity voice remote, including models XR11, XR15, and XR16, for use with Xfinity X1 and Flex streaming devices, as well as TV and audio equipment.

Identifying Your Remote

Xfinity remotes can be identified by the model number, typically found on the back panel or inside the battery compartment. Common models include:

XR11 Remote Description: A black remote control with a silver top section. Buttons include: Power, TV Input, All Power, Volume Up/Down, Mute, Channel Up/Down, Rewind, Play/Pause, Fast Forward, Stop, Record, Menu, Guide, Page Up/Down, Last Channel, Info, Exit, Favorites, A, B, C, D buttons, a directional pad with an OK button in the center, a number pad (0-9), and a "Setup" button at the bottom. The "Xfinity" logo is prominently displayed below the directional pad.

XR15/XR16 Remote Description: A dark grey remote control with a silver top section. Buttons include: TV Input, Power, Volume Up/Down, Mute, Channel Up/Down, Rewind, Play/Pause, Fast Forward, Stop, Record, Exit, Guide, Xfinity logo, A, B, C, D buttons, a circular directional pad with an OK button, a Microphone/Voice button, Info button, and a "Setup" button at the bottom. The XR15 model includes a number pad (0-9), while the XR16 model does not.

Pairing with Xfinity X1 and Flex Devices

Your Xfinity remote can be paired with Xfinity X1 and Flex streaming devices. This allows control of the TV Box even when it's out of sight (up to 50 feet away).

  1. Activate the remote by removing the pull tab on the back.
  2. Turn on your TV and TV Box.
  3. Press and hold the [Xfinity button] and [Mute button] together for five seconds until the status light at the top changes from red to green.
  4. Alternatively, for XR11/XR15 remotes with a Setup button: Press the [Setup button] until the LED at the top changes from red to green.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions on your TV. You may be prompted to enter a three-digit pairing code.
  6. If prompted, aim the remote at the TV Box and press the [Voice button].
  7. Once the on-screen pairing code is correctly entered, your Voice Remote is paired with the TV Box.

Note: Xfinity remotes can only be paired with one TV Box at a time. If you need to pair with a different TV Box, you must first unpair it from the current one.

Programming for TV and Audio/Video Equipment

You can program your Xfinity Voice Remote to control your TV and audio/video (AV) receiver, such as a sound bar.

For Remotes with a Setup Button (e.g., XR11):

  1. Turn on your TV.
  2. Press and hold the [Xfinity button] and [Info button] for five seconds.
  3. Press and hold the [Setup button] until the LED at the top of the remote changes from red to green.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions. You may need to enter a code for your TV manufacturer.
  5. If the TV turns on and responds to volume/power commands, you are all set.

For Remotes Without a Setup Button (e.g., XR15, XR16):

  1. Turn on your TV and TV Box.
  2. Press the [Xfinity button] on the remote. The light should flash green twice.
  3. Aim the remote at the TV Box and press the [Voice button]. Say, "Program remote."
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. If the TV turns off when pressing the channel up button repeatedly ([CH ^ button]), press the [Setup button] to lock in the code.
  6. If you are already paired for voice control but need to program TV/audio control: Press and hold the [Voice button] and say, "Program remote."
