User Manual

Controller Installation

To use the Super UA, you must download and install the controller from the following URL to your computer.

NOTE: Do not connect the Super UA to your computer until after the controller has been installed. If you have already connected the Super UA, disconnect it and reconnect it once the controller installation is complete.

Control Panel

You can make detailed adjustments for the Super UA using a dedicated control panel that is installed on your computer. The control panel is available after installing the controller. For more information on its use, refer to the Control Panel Help.

Description of the Panels

To prevent equipment malfunction or damage, always lower the volume and turn off all units before making any connections.

Main Unit, Top Panel

Volume/Sensitivity Adjustment

Dial: Turn to adjust volume or sensitivity.

Button: Press to activate or deactivate the mute function.

Main Unit, Front Panel

Buttons [MIC 1], [MIC 2]: Press when you want to adjust the sensitivity of the MIC 1/MIC 2 connectors.

Button [LINE IN]: Press when you want to adjust the sensitivity of the LINE IN connectors.

Button [PHONES]: Press when you want to adjust the volume of the PHONES connectors.

Buttons [A], [B]: Press when you want to adjust the volume of the LINE OUT A or LINE OUT B connectors. Press button [A] to output sound from the LINE OUT A connectors, or press button [B] to output sound from the LINE OUT B connectors. You can also use the control panel to output sound from both LINE OUT A and B connectors.

Level Indicator: Indicates the volume level of the connectors corresponding to the button illuminated in green.

Volume Indicator: Indicates the volume level or sensitivity level of the connectors corresponding to the button illuminated in green.

PHONES Connectors: Connect your headphones here. Use the connector that matches your headphone plug.

Main Unit, Rear Panel

9 DC IN Connector: Connect the included AC adapter here. Place the AC adapter so that the indicator side faces up and the written information side faces down. The indicator will light up when the AC adapter is plugged into an AC outlet.

10 Ground Terminal: Depending on the circumstances of a particular setup, you may feel a slight tingling sensation when touching the surface of this device, microphones connected to it, or metal parts of other objects. This is due to an infinitesimal electric charge that is completely harmless. However, if this is a concern, connect the ground terminal to an external ground connection. When the unit is grounded, depending on the characteristics of the installation, a slight hum may occur. If you are unsure about the connection method, contact your nearest Roland Service Center or an authorized Roland dealer.

Inappropriate places for connection:

  • Water pipes (may cause electric shock or electrocution)
  • Gas pipes (may cause fire or explosion)
  • Telephone ground or lightning rod (may be dangerous during thunderstorms)

11 I/O Port: Connect the cable coming from the connection box. If the connection box is not used, this connector is not used.

12 LINE OUT A Connectors: Connect monitor speakers, etc. here. Nominal output level: +4 dBu (balanced). Headroom: +18 dB.

13 LINE IN Connectors: Connect a musical instrument, etc. here. Supported plugs: 1/4" TRS phone type (balanced). Nominal output level: -28–+4 dBu. Headroom: +18 dB.

14 USB Port: Connect this port to a USB 2.0 compatible computer. Before connecting the Super UA for the first time, you must install the controller as explained in "Controller Installation".

15 MIC 1, 2 Connectors: These are analog audio input connectors. Supported plugs: XLR. Nominal output level: -60--2 dBu. Headroom: +18 dB.

16 LINE OUT B Connectors: Connect monitor speakers, etc. here. Nominal output level: +4 dBu (balanced). Headroom: +18 dB.

17 48V Indicators: Light up when phantom power is being supplied.

Connection Box, Rear Panel

48V Phantom Power On/Off:

  • Dynamic Microphone: Must be connected with the 48V indicator (phantom power) off.
  • Condenser Microphone: Must be connected with the 48V indicator (phantom power) on.

The 48V indicator is lit when 48V phantom power is being supplied.

Connection Box, Front Panel

PHONES Connectors: Connect headphones here.

MIC 1, 2 Connectors: Connect microphones here.

LINE IN Connectors: Connect musical instruments, etc. here.

Connecting the Unit

Once everything is properly connected, be sure to follow the procedure below to turn on the equipment. If you turn on the equipment in a different order, you risk causing equipment malfunction or failure.

  1. Connect the AC adapter.
  2. Use a USB cable to connect the Super UA to your computer. The Super UA turns on. This unit is equipped with a protection circuit. A short time interval (a few seconds) is necessary after turning it on for it to operate normally.
  3. Turn on the equipment that you have connected to the input/output connectors.
  4. Adjust the volume.

Before turning the unit on or off, always be sure to lower the volume. Even with the volume lowered, some sound may be heard when turning the unit on or off. However, this is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.

Stereo Recording with Two Microphones

Buttons [MIC 1], [MIC 2], [LINE IN]: Press simultaneously. Sensitivity is linked in stereo.

Buttons [PHONES], [A], [B]: Press simultaneously. The level indicator indicates the volume level, and the volume knob adjusts the sound.

[MIC 1], [MIC 2] Connectors:

  • Off: Sound cannot be received.
  • On: Sound can be received.

[LINE IN] Connectors:

  • Off: Sound cannot be received.
  • On: Sound can be received.

[PHONES], [A], [B] Buttons:

  • Off: Sound cannot be output.
  • On: Sound can be output.

[MIC 1], [MIC 2], [LINE IN] Buttons:

  • Press: Adjust sensitivity.
  • Hold: Link sensitivity in stereo.

[PHONES], [A], [B] Buttons:

  • Press: Adjust volume.
  • Hold: Link volume in stereo.

Wiring Diagrams

This instrument is equipped with balanced connectors (LINE IN, LINE OUT A: TRS connectors), (MIC 1, 2, LINE OUT B: XLR connectors). The wiring diagram for these connectors is shown below. Before making connections, check the wiring diagrams of any other equipment you will be connecting.

LINE IN, LINE OUT A Connectors (TRS phone type 1/4" balanced):

  • 1: GND
  • TIP: HOT
  • RING: COLD

MIC 1, 2 Connectors (XLR):

  • 1: GND
  • 2: HOT
  • 3: COLD

LINE OUT B Connectors (TRS phone type 1/4" balanced):

  • 1: GND
  • 2: HOT
  • 3: COLD
