The Outdoor Temperature Sensor
The sensor provides remote transmission of outdoor temperature to the Temperature Station by 915 MHz. It features a water-resistant casing and a wall mounting case designed for sheltered places, avoiding direct rain and sunshine.
Setting Up
When One Sensor is Used
- Insert batteries into the temperature sensor.
- Within 30 seconds, insert batteries into the Temperature Station. All LCD segments will light up briefly, and the time will default to 12:00 with the indoor temperature displayed. If readings are not shown after 60 seconds, remove and reinsert batteries.
- The Temperature Station will begin receiving data from the sensor. The outdoor temperature and signal reception icon should appear. If this does not occur within 5 minutes, remove batteries from both units and reset from step 1.
- Ensure a distance of no more than 330 feet (100 meters) between the Temperature Station and the sensor for sufficient 915 MHz transmission.
- Once the remote temperature is received and displayed, WWVB time code reception starts automatically, typically taking 3-5 minutes but potentially up to 4 nights.
When More Than One Sensor is Used
- Remove all batteries from the Temperature Station and sensors, and wait 60 seconds.
- Insert batteries into the first sensor.
- Within 30 seconds of powering up the first sensor, insert batteries into the Temperature Station. The LCD will light up, showing 12:00 and the indoor temperature. Reset if not shown after 60 seconds.
- The outdoor temperature from the first sensor (channel 1) and the signal reception icon should display. If not shown after 2 minutes, reset from step 1.
- Insert the battery into the second sensor within 10 seconds of the first sensor's reading appearing on the LCD.
- The outdoor temperature from the second sensor and the "channel 2" icon should display. If not shown after 2 minutes, reset from step 1.
- Insert batteries into the third sensor within 10 seconds of the second sensor's reading appearing on the LCD.
- Within 2 minutes, the channel 3 outdoor data will display, and the channel icon will shift back to "1" upon successful reception. If this does not happen, restart the setup from step 1.
- Maintain a distance of no more than 330 feet (100 meters) between the Temperature Station and sensors for sufficient 915 MHz transmission.
Note: Transmission problems may occur if setup procedures for additional sensors are not followed correctly. If problems persist, remove all batteries and follow the setup from step 1. The station attempts reception on 915MHz, 920MHz, and 910MHz frequencies if initial reception fails. WWVB time code reception starts automatically after remote temperature data is received.
IMPORTANT: If Atomic auto-set time (WWVB time) is not received after 10 minutes, press the SET key to manually enter the time. Daily WWVB reception is attempted hourly between 12:00 am and 6:00 am. Successful reception overrides manually set time and updates the date.
Battery Installation
Install and Replace Batteries in the Temperature Station
The Temperature Station requires 2 x AAA, IEC LR3, 1.5V batteries. Follow these steps:
- Remove the cover at the back of the Temperature Station.
- Insert batteries, observing the correct polarity (indicated by markings).
- Replace the compartment cover.
Install and Replace Batteries in the Temperature Sensor
The temperature sensor requires 2 x AA, IEC LR6, 1.5V batteries. Follow these steps:
- Remove the battery compartment cover.
- Insert batteries, observing the correct polarity (indicated by markings).
- Replace the battery cover on the unit.
Note: When changing batteries in any unit, all units must be reset following the setup procedures, as a random security code is assigned by the sensor at startup.
Battery Change: Regular battery replacement is recommended for optimal accuracy. Battery life is approximately 12 months for the Temperature Station and 24 months for the Temperature Sensor (with alkaline batteries).

Atomic Time - WWVB Radio Controlled Time
The NIST WWVB radio station in Ft. Collins, Colorado, transmits the exact time signal at 60 kHz across the US, receivable up to 2,000 miles. Reception is best at night due to Earth's ionosphere. The WWVB signal receives data from the NIST Atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado, maintaining extreme accuracy. The time is announced in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), also known as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), and does not follow Daylight Saving Time changes. The station's quartz clock may have slight variance but adjusts over days to be accurate within 0.10 seconds per day.
For more details on NIST time, visit http://www.boulder.nist.gov/timefreq.htm or call (303)499-7111.

915 MHz Reception
The Temperature Station should receive temperature data within 5 minutes after setup. If data is not received (outdoor display shows "- -"), check the following:
- Ensure the Temperature Station or sensor is at least 5 to 6.5 feet (1.5 to 2 meters) away from interfering sources like computer monitors or TV sets.
- Avoid positioning the station near metal window frames.
- Other electrical products (headphones, speakers) operating on the same 915MHz frequency may interfere with transmission and reception.
- Neighbors' devices operating on the 915MHz signal frequency can also cause interference.
Note: Once the 915MHz signal is received correctly, do not re-open the battery cover of the sensor or station, as this may cause a false reset. If this happens, reset all units as per the setup instructions. The transmission range is approximately 330 feet (100 m) in open space, but this can be affected by the environment and interference levels. If reception is still not possible, reset all system units.
Mounting
Positioning the Temperature Station
The Temperature Station is designed for wall mounting or free standing placement.
To Wall Mount:
Choose a sheltered place, avoiding direct rain and sunshine. Before mounting, verify that outdoor temperature values are receivable from the desired location.
- Fix a screw (not supplied) into the desired wall, leaving the head extended about 5mm.
- Remove the stand from the Temperature Station by pulling it away from the base and hang the station onto the screw. Ensure it locks into place before releasing.
Free Standing:
With the stand attached, the Temperature Station can be placed on any flat surface.
Positioning the Temperature Sensor
The sensor includes a holder that can be attached to a wall using the supplied screws. The sensor can also be placed on a flat surface by attaching the stand to its bottom.
To Wall Mount Sensor:
- Secure the bracket onto a desired wall using the screws and plastic anchors.
- Clip the sensor onto the bracket.
Note: Before permanently fixing the sensor wall base, place all units in their desired locations to check for outdoor temperature reading reception. If the signal is not received, relocate the sensors or move them slightly to improve reception.
Care and Maintenance
- Avoid extreme temperatures, vibration, and shock, as these can cause damage and lead to inaccurate readings.
- Clean the display and casings with a soft, damp cloth only. Do not use solvents or scouring agents, as they may mark the LCD and casings.
- Do not submerge the unit in water.
- Immediately remove low-powered batteries to prevent leakage and damage. Replace only with new batteries of the recommended type.
- Do not attempt to repair the unit yourself. Return it to the point of purchase for repair by a qualified engineer. Tampering may invalidate the warranty.
- Do not expose units to extreme or sudden temperature changes, as this can affect accuracy and readings.
